    How to Calculate Mode shapes and frequencies in STAAD pro v8i using Eigen Extraction Method. Modal participation factors are required to perform dynamic analysis and response spectrum analysis in STAAD. In this example we will calculate frequencies, mode shapes and participation factors of a multi story building and we will compare the result with Rayleigh Method of extracting Frequency.

    Can you please explain why you have given self-weight in all the three directions and in a positive direction. Why floor load is also given in three directions?

    hi Anand,
    i wish to know whether my understanding is correct when it comes to the vibration of structures
    1. is it ok to say that the deflection of a beam under a dynamic load is the sum of the mode shapes ? or to say that these mode shapes are obtained by fourier analysis of the original deflection?
    i appreciate if you could answer this basic question of mine.. thanks for your effort.

    1. How you assign or conform the property of the member- before this analysis? Is it calculated from dead+live load?
    2. How you calculate the mode number as 10?
    Stadd defaulted have 6.
