"As it rises up, it seems to struggle... to eek out a few leaves..." lol. I knew I related to this tree. I have ~60 pages of audiobook to bang out today, so I feel pretty solitary before my mic, eking out a few leaves of another kind.
Related, it sounds like Dr. Harris really fought for this one. I'm glad you pushed through it. ❤
I loved the point about "primordial spirituality." It made me think of the intimate link between what I believe and nature. The many Psalms that emphasize seeing God's glory in creation.
Gonna second seeing the cruciform in addition to the staff and shepherd AND the church in the background. I just thought of the synergistic harmony meant to exist between mankind, flora, and fauna... I see peace here and I would absolutely take the place of the shepherd under this tree. Hella jelly!
What a powerful and beautiful mic-drop moment this one ended on! I had to replay that just to make sure I heard Dr. Zucker right! 🔥🔥
This is a real O.G. tree.
And you guys are real O.G. art historians. While working (on projects like this one), I only allow myself a few precious minutes to aggressively shovel food into my mouth and take a much-needed brain break before getting back to it. You guys give me so much in 5 minutes or so... I'm very grateful for what you add to my (long) day.

Astonishing how you tease out so many different layers of meaning from a landscape that at first glance seems to be just a landscape. I love Freidrich, but I did not know this painting. Thanks for introducing it to me.
