"The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" won the Eisner award (the comics industry equivalent of the Oscar). It is structured like a formal biography and includes innumerable references to actual events of Scrooge's presumed time period (Scrooge meets Theodore Roosevelt, for example, and suggest he'd be better at politics than cattle ranching). It's a phenomenal piece of work more suitable for adults than little kids. Give it a read.

Johanna has such a beautiful voice. The other woman is Finnish singer Johanna Iavanainen, her husband, Mikko , is playing the guitar. Troy also played on this album. Don Rosa did the album artwork.
You wanted more ,try The Last Sled. The entire record is excellent.

I've seen Johanna once briefly in my life. Back then she was heading for some MTV3 (normal TV station in Finland) recording or TV show. She is very mall woman but sounds and like an angel. She is very beautiful lady. Tuomas is one lucky man in that way also. And to have another musical soul as partner must be helpful whenever you need ideas or silence. Another who works in music industry too understands that much better than normal human being.

"To be rich is to seek. To relive a memory". Life is about the journey, not the destination. His true wealth isn't gold, it's the experiences and adventures he had and the memories he made. Such a great message.

Tuomas has said that The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck is probably his favorite work of fiction of all time. Sadly, Disney has banned two of the 12 stories in the comics collection/graphic novel from further reprints, and has thus effectively turned "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" into a banned book. The collection cannot really be published without those stories. 😢 Johanna K and her frequent musical collaborator, Johanna Iavanainen(other singer hear) have an album/musical project called, "Altamullan Road." Two videos from the album are, "Under Water" (lead vocal by Johanna K) & "When it's Time" (lead vocal by Johanna I).

    This song is so good.
What most people don't know is that when Disney made Scrooge, as a character, it was based off of Ebenezer Scrooge from "A Christmas Carol." Later, Walt Disney fleshed out Scrooge's story.
Scrooge was born in 1877, in Scotland. As a young man, he went to the Canadian Yukon and went gold prospecting -- and after more than 5 years, hit the jackpot. He became rich. In his life, Scrooge witnessed the rise of technology, including airplanes and cars. He witnessed the First World War. He saw the "Roaring 20s," the Crash of 1929, and the Great Depression. In World War II, his nephew Donald served in the US Navy -- hence Donald wearing the dress blues Navy top known as the "Crackerjack." Scrooge also witnessed the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Korean War, and even the death of JFK.
Scrooge died in 1967, where it was written on his headstone: "Fortuna Faveat Fortibus," meaning in Latin, "Fortune Favors the Strong," a saying Scrooge often lived by while prospecting in the Yukon.
Just saying, it's one hell of a story!

YOu also might have missed the I want my tears back, clearly talks not only about Alice in wonderland but mentions the voice of Mary Costa and anyone who remembers her voice in the disney movies knows... lol sorry this song is also almost a decade old so it's just when people find said interviews and songs but don't really watch the full extension of their travels through every musical journey with each new singer, Their album Imaginarium is actually like a very dark and twisty disney...

There's a kinda bitter sweet feeling when you watch the video. Don Rosa and Tuomas did a bunch of interviews back when the album was released and Don said that his eyesight is getting to a point where he doesn't know how long he will be able to draw.
If you get your hands on The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck I highly recommend buying it.

Tuomas grew up loving this comic book character. He found it a huge honor to be able to compose this beautiful project. A creeper makes sense. Very small parts layered in wonderful ways to create a soundscape of wonder. Johanna's voice is like a wood nymph or fairy. It is so delicate and soft.
Don Rosa was a bit bemused when some long haired guy walks up at a signing (Ducks in general and the Disney Ducks in particular are VERY popular in Finland) and tells him he is going to write songs about his Scrooge comics.
Later he got a message that Tuomas was done, and was heading to London to record, and Don got the preliminary tracks, and was worried, then played them, Said by the second song, he was in tears at the beauty of the thing.
The Johannas (The other girl singing is also a Johanna) have done other works together, and there is a live version of this from one of their concerts. Altamullan Road is the name of their project. The guitarist was the other Johanna's husband Mikko, and both are good friends with Tuomas and Johanna. They all do great music.
    NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.

Okei. Little facts. In Finland are Donald Duck a much bigger thing then Mickey Mouse. Almost every one hu have been child in the 70's, 80's and 90's has been reading Donald Duck magasines.
And then to this Music. Don Rosa (the old guy that is drawing in the video) have done two comic boks that are named The Life Time Of Scrooge Mcduck 1 and 2.
And Tuomas did this hole album inspired of them.
In the Album. Alan Reid is the voice of Scrooge. And the Singers are Johanna Kurkela ( Tuomas Wife), Johanna Iivanainen and in one song Tony Kakko ( friend of Tuomas and the singer of Sonata Arctica). Also in the Album are Troy Donockley and plays some of the instruments.
My favorit song of the album are Cold heart of the Klondike

"A Lifetime of Adventure" is a song from the album inspired by The Life and Times of Scrooge. This track is sung by Johanna Kurkela.(Tuomas's wife)
The music video for the song featured Don Rosa, who did the drawings on the album cover and on the video.
The recordings took place during August - October 2013, first at Angel Studios, London, then in various locations around Scotland and Finland and released 2014.

Great reaction. Great example of Tuomas's genius as a composer and the beauty that resides in his soul as an artist. The Life and Time of Scrooge McDuck graphic novels by Don Rosa (illustrator in video) are hugely popular in Finland. Practically every child reads them growing up. Obviously Tuomas is a huge fan and conceived of this as a project to write a soundtrack to the novels. For more of Tuomas and Johanna you should return to Auri and the songs The Space Between, and The Valley.
Johanna's voice is so beautiful, like listening to a woodland fairy. I love her voice and her many projects are worth checking out. The other female singer is Johanna Livanainen and the guitar soloist is her husband Mikko. The Johanna's had a project Altamullan Road together that has some beautiful music. One of my favorites is When It's Time, a beautiful song about an elderly person who has just lost their lifelong partner, celebrating their life together and hoping to see them when it's their turn to die. th-cam.com/video/PBeCoAOP5d0/w-d-xo.html. She also hand makes knit wear that she sells on her website. You can see Floor rocking one of her dark green Auri beanies in some of her winter video's from her home in Sweden.

Another project that Johanna has been involved with is Eye of Melian. It was started by Martijn Westerholt, founder and keyboardist of the Dutch symphonic metal band Delain, as an outlet for lush orchestral fantasy music, much of it inspired by Tolkien (Martijn's wife is a literature professor specializing in Tolkien). The whole album is beautiful but some favorites are The Bell, Vita Nova, and Light. I also liked her work with Insomnium on the song Godforsaken. Not much of a death metal fan but her beautiful atmospheric vocals with their brutal melodic guitars is pretty cool.

When it’s Time is a great song but it’s currently a hard song to listen to. It’s over four years since my father died and my mother is still kicking her heels waiting to join him. What’s the point in living any longer she asks. I suggest that there must be some things she needs to sort before it is her time .

  • @jpsother1183
    @jpsother1183 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The Scrooge of the Rosa comics is not the Scrooge of Duck Tales. He's a far deeper character and the music Tuomas wrote reflects that depth a lot.
One of the differences is in the comics, his vault was memories represented by the money, gems, and gold kept as mementos of those memories. He'd dive in. pull up a coin and recall how he got it. That was the value to him. Not that he was perfect. When he slipped it always hurt him.
It would be grand if a Movie was made true to the comics and using this as its soundtrack (I have the CD as well as the box set of comics, and it is glorious) but the Disney of today would surely ruin the work.

The sad thing is that almost no one in his home country, the US, knows who Don Rosa is. He has said in interviews that when he has attended conventions in the US perpaps ten people wanted to meet him, but when he goes to Europe, and particularily Scandinavia, droves of people stand in line for hours just to get his autograph.
