    After 300 fights will sylvie open a gym in the us? I’ll make the trip for a seminar. Such a wealth of knowledge you share. Thank you for living your dream

      Thanks for the kind words. I will probably set my next goal at 400 fights :) I will not open a gym in the US, though I would be interested in perhaps opening one in Thailand.

    As a musician my teachers always said to me to practice slow and repeat a lot the exercises , this helped me to minimize unnecessary movements , stay better in rythm and gaining a lot of muscle memory in general , after a lot of practice in low BPM in metronome then i turn up the metronome little by little like 5 - 10 bpm per 2 min's until i reach the bpm that the actual song or exercise is and i am thinking that you can apply the same idea on many different things. Thanks for the great content you're sharing with us and let me know what you are thinking

  • @screamfingers
    @screamfingers 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So true. Too much thinking and analysing the problem can amke the solution very arbitrary rather than a natural consequence of your body discovering a solution. Because your ideas are based on what you already know.

    Thank you so much for your insight. I started Muay Thai earlier this year and have it stuck in my head every waking hour. Its really great to hear your breakdowns and see your excitement 200 fights later (congratulations!, I dont even had 1 yet...thinking about it though!). Your Muay Thai energy really shows through and I feel excited with you. I think this is what makes your channel stand out, its authentic in an approachable and excited way. I am headed to Thailand in May2018 and was wondering if you had any insights on what gyms to visit for a week long bootcamp for someone starting out. Any tips would be welcomed, and again, thanks alot!

    I was thinking of Sylvie's metaphor of how the constancy of water wears everything smooth in time.
    I have another metaphor: Rep it out like you're the ocean.
    The ocean does endless reps of waves without complaint. Every other wave is different, it doesn't seem to put effort into any wave to make it "Perfect" - just keeps doing it again. And again. And anon. The reps are the point, not the perfection of any individual rep.
    However we think the beach is perfect just the way it is; we have wave sound generators of the sound of the waves because it's so soothing and calming. Maybe through enough reps we can express the same level of fluidity in any technique.
    Back to my endless southpaw crosses now. Wish me luck and an intact elbow LOL

    • @Lorendrawn
      @Lorendrawn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cross comes out more naturally now.

    Hi... One word to describe what u explain : Muscle Memory
    Keep doing until u master it.
    Just like all Thai fighter , they fights after 200+ match they dont feel nervous caused it just another day in the office its their job repeat over and over again... Bruce Lee ever say : Don't not afraid the man who know thousand kicks , be afraid of the man who practice the same kick a thousand time. Once again Sylvie good job on breakdown I will plan a trip to pattaya soon to look for u and train with you

  • @server123456

    Hi Rep Technique Training question! When you're grinding out the reps for your chosen technique (say round kicks), are your trying to kill the bag on each one (full speed and power) resting as needed then carrying on? Or going more for speed and only moderate power (or mix it up as you go)? I'm thinking mix...

    Hey Sylvie. How many weeks at a time would you be doing the 1000 reps a day before you go back to normal training?
    Are you always doing this type of training through the year? Just changing the technique that you work on?
    After you stop doing the high reps of the technique and go back to normal training, do you find that you still keep the proficiency in the technique?

    I'm a beginner, about 5 months in, and have started integrating hi rep for my teeps, knees and round kicks. I also do your quick block drills. I woke up this morning (day 2 from the high rep training) and can hardly stand on my left foot. Feels really strained. Is this a common thing due to bad form or being flat-footed? Thanks for the inspiration!

    • @8limbsUs
      @8limbsUs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I have also strained tendons from my high rep. Usually doing the exercise a couple times while it hurts will let you know which positions or movement caused it. Back off the numbers while it hurts and do slow forms to correct it until you feel better.

  • @fishbonegaga
    @fishbonegaga 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Very interesting . But it's not for beginners , right ? Cause what if you're doing 1000 reps and mistaking 1000 times ? Like droping your hand when throwing jab . There's a high risk to settle this mistake and it will takes long time to unlearn and learn again and practice the right way . Human body got memory and it's hard to change wrong movement , we need strong basics to do high reps , what do you think ?

    • @marsoc0326
      @marsoc0326 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      julien vandal Exactly why a good instructor is soooo valuable!!! They make those adjustments and don't let you go too far down the wrong path to a bad habit. Also really good instructors also drive home home key points and ways to tell if you the exercise is being right or wrong , for example it will FEEL this way,or it should NOT FEEL like this, or "if you were the freeze in the middle you should have full balance", these are the things that once you remember allow you to put work in by yourself.

    • @fishbonegaga
      @fishbonegaga 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Friendly Fellow yes i watched the video , did you read my comment ? That's all my point , I'm saying you can do the wrong movement 10000 times , it will become a " reflex" very hard to correct . Some people do wrong things their whole life...

      Ok now i understand , basically my question was , would you recommend this to beginner ? In your article you wrote : " Obviously it’s important to not practice mistakes, but that doesn’t mean eliminating mistakes from your practice. If you can see the difference between correct and incorrect in a movement, make efforts toward the correct . " So , i guess the answer is no , or yes but under supervision of a good coach .

    Hi Sylvie, I wanted to ask you few questions for quite a while... We've been seeing you go from this gym to that gym for quite a while... and we see you learning techniques from this guy and that guy... my question is , how much of the techniques that you learn - have you really used and implemented during your fights ? Out of 200 fights, how many of them have you lost ? There is no doubt that you have passion for the sport but, are you trying to make name, fame and living out of the sport and all these activities like making videos n other things that you are doing ? Has head injuries affected your mental and psychological health like getting depressed or angry or mood swings n stuffs like that? Thanks.

    the sport that depends on pushing the boundaries of biological adaptation more than any other is weightlifting. The most successful coach & method of all time was Ivan Abadjiev of Bulgaria. His athletes totally dominated the sport and his methods blew minds, because they sounded so brutal and impossible. His method depended on maximum competition effort performed all day every day, without time wasted on things which are not the competion movements or repetition ranges which do not mirror the sport. Weightlifting is about performing single max effort reps, so this is what the training consisted of, non stop. While other national teams rarely did these max efforts outside of the competition at all.
