Renji has always been strong, he just is always nerfed by the story (like gets his Bankai sealed or is at 1/5th power) or is against a significantly stronger opponent. But he still toughs it out like a badass and doesn't give up, this fight was so awesome and even though he lost it was a great showing. It was also a completely new fight and I'm happy because I always wanted to see more of his new Bankai since they didn't extend his fight with Mask!

Uryu wasn't even using his full powered Vollstandich (Uryu didn't have gloves and boots until the last recharge) and you think Renji can beat Uryu, not to mention the red eyes and Uryu's schrift.

That applies to a lot of characters, mainly the younger shinigami that haven't yet mastered their zanpakuto.

Uryu definitely thinks he can stop ywacha by himself, he keeps saying "you can't beat him" to ichigo etc, suggesting he knows what can...
So cool that this new fight mirrors their first encounter together in the first arc, but this time Uryu had the upper hand
