I'm sorry but I happen to know a little bit about Marine biology! I'm definitely no expert or anything but sharks aren't like that! A starving shark will definitely go after damn near anything moving in the water but there's so much marine life in the ocean and marine life that they actually like to eat anyway that the chances are incredibly slim out in the middle of the ocean a shark is going to be starving enough to be circling around a raft in the first place.
Yes, you definitely aren't an expert in marine bio or WWII history. Sharks absolutely can be "like that" and they definitely don't need to be "starving" to try to attack and eat a weakened, starving hallucinating man that's been floating in the ocean suffering from exposure for days. There were numerous accounts of shark attacks on stranded sailors during the war, the famous USS Indianapolis story from Jaws is actually true; hundreds of eyewitnesses recounted sharks biting holes in life rafts and dragging away men that drifted too far. The actual scene you're commenting on is straight from Zamperini's memoir, but I'm sure your admittedly non-expert opinion on the psychology and feeding habits of whitetip and tiger sharks that you probably learned from Shark Week are much more sound than the first-hand account of someone who actually experienced it lol.

Pretty low probability. Especially considering how fast planes ran out of ammo and how bullets act after hitting water

As far as that Japanese pilot knew, there was a rescue ship on the way to save them. If he let them live now he might be killed by them later
