I don't even know how many reactions to this performance I've seen since I stumbled upon it a couple of years ago, but it's probably an unhealthy number!. It never gets old, though, and yours is a top tier contribution - thank you. For me, Lara Fabian has filled a void in my musical appreciation that I didn't know was there until I first heard this song. The good news is that there's much, much more.....

The breaths are there to enhance the emotions to come through. You should also have taken the video through to the end to see just how long it took her to come out of the song and back into the real world. It looks as if she isn't aware of the audience reaction.
    A true artist.

Correct. Her breathing is just one of her many physical tools to add emotion to her songs, nothing to do with contrasting with a soft tone. And on the ending, so many reviewers miss it don't they?!

The skill of interpretation is out of this world on this performance. You can even see it at the end of the performance, she is looking down and still in her character. Not easy to let go of such an emotional piece. Evident that she poured something personal into this. Though if you do, as a singer, you cant perform such a piece for long or it will destroy you.

You don’t even know how big and influential she is on the music scene. 😂
I just checked your recent videos and just looking at the most recents: almost all of them did cover one or many of her songs.
I am speaking of : Dimash, Floor Jansen, Cakra Khan, Gigi de Lana, Gabriel Henrique, Diana Ankudinova, Morissette Amon, Katrina Velarde, Almira from 4th impact, …
I did not investigate further but I am sure I could add some other names as Forestella, Jackie Evancho, Rimar, Sarah Geronimo, Julie Anne asan Jose, Laura Bretan, Vitas, Il Divo, …
And even singing legends such as Josh Groban, Shirley Bassey, Barbra Streisand did cover her songs 😮
In fact she is a role model for Josh Groban who made several duets with her, or for Dimash who is her absolute fan since he is a child and covered several of her songs. Lara even wrote a song for him 😂
I will post separately more details about her, this song or a first playlist.

I've been to her concert last year in Belgrade, Serbia. I drove for six hours and it was worth every minute and every cent.
There is some 25 years between this performance and now so my expectations were not that high, realistically, she is in the age when singers start to decline, nature working against them. I didn't notice that, at all! She is simply amazing! And her stage presence, emotion, humility...... Queen of Emotions.

Her stage performance and connection with her music is just out of this world, not seen much of it these days, she truly is one of the few left.

    More information on Lara Fabian:
Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, ....
In my personal opinion, she is even the best.
There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register.
So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence:
    • she speaks 2 languages natively (french, italian), and 2 others fluently (english, spanish), can speak a bit of dutch (and sicilian), and understand quite well russian and portuguese. She has sung in 12 languages in total
    • she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks fluently. She often co-composes the music with the composer.
    • she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none
    • she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens.
A quick background on her and her career:
She is belgian, her father is flemish, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia) and American roots ( her grandfather is from Detroit). She was raised in sicilia first then in Belgium so she speaks both italian and french as native languages.
She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory.
She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today.
She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada.
She now lives in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship
She became very famous there and then conquered France in 1996/1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music).
In 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, stayed number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for 58 weeks in a row and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US.
This concert is legendary and the song you just reviewed is from this concert.
But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan.
She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Central Asia where she became an absolute superstar through her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years. She is absolutely massive in Russia for instance.
She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace", used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera, topped the charts for months and become a recurrent in the local singing contests since then.
Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban (they are friends and he told she is a role model for him), …
With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there.
Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA and many other countries are now rediscovering her.
    She is Dimash's idol:
I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep.
He covered many of her songs, most of these were composed by Igor Krutoy and written by by Lara.
Out of my mind I can list:
    ○ Adagio (She wrote it and is the original performer),
    ○ Mademoiselle Hyde (she wrote it and is the original performer),
    ○ Love of Tired Swans (she wrote the song in French under the title "Je t'aime encore" and was the original performer of the french then the russian versions, Dimash covered the russian version)
    ○ Ascolta La Voce / Vocalize (this was a pure vocalization and she was the original performer, then lyrics were added for Dimash and it was rebranded as "Know")
She also wrote the lyrics of Dimash's song "Your Love".
And she covered "Love is like a dream" before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva).
Finally, they also performed "Ti Amo Cosi" together, in trio with Aida Garafulina: this is a song that she performed originally with Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Sumi Jo then again later with Dmitri and Alina Yarovaya, before this new trio with Dimash and Aida.
Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy: Igor and Dimash connected after his Adagio cover, also endorsed by Lara.
Igor came back from retirement and composed severals songs for him after it.
Many other top vocalists from the current generation covered her songs, some have Lara as a role model and big inspiration:
    ○ Floor Jansen (Adagio),
    ○ Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime),
    ○ Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie),
    ○ Morissette Amon (Broken Vow),
    ○ Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace),
    ○ Cakra Khan (Broken Vow),
    ○ Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow),
    ○ Regine Velasquez (Broken Vow),
    ○ Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade, Je t'aime),
    ○ Forestella (Je suis Malade),
    ○ Almira (from 4th Impact band) (Broken Vow),
    ○ Gigi de Lana (Broken Vow)
    ○ Julie Anne san Jose (Adagio, Broken Vow),
    ○ Rimar ( Adagio, Broken Vow, Know),
    ○ Il Divo (Adagio)
    ○ Daria Bentsa (I guess I loved you),
    ○ Sarah Geronimo (Broken Vow)
    ○ Laura Bretan ( Adagio, Caruso),
    ○ Jackie Evancho (Je t’aime, Caruso and Broken Vow, BV rewritten as « Imaginer » by Lara for Jackie),
    ○ Amir (Je t’aime),
    ○ Vitas (Adagio),
    ○ Anastasia Luna (Adagio),
    ○ Evgenia Fanfara (Adagio),
    ○ Anna Eriksson (Je suis malade),
    ○ Choi Sung Hoon (Je suis malade),
    ○ Soprano Turetsky band (Adagio)
    ○ Majda Roumi (Adagio),
    ○ Harrison Craig (Broken Vow),
    ○ Petra Berger (Adagio, Broken Vow),
    ○ Katerina Maslova (Je t’aime, I guess I loved you)
    ○ Sevara Nazarkhan (Je t’aime)
    ○ ....
NB: Lara did cover Caruso , Je suis malade, and Love by grace, these are not her originals, but I mention these here as the related artists were attracted to cover it again after listening to Lara’s version.
Today, Lara still has an amazing voice and tone and can still reach the 5th octave with resonance ; she still offers these emotive renditions that are her unique signature.
In June 2022, she kicked off a WW tour and stunned her fans once again with 5 magical concerts in Canada. She completed the europe part in September/October and I attended a concert from this tour. It was packed and she was again spectacular.
On April 23 2023 she had again a wonderful concert in Tbilissi, Georgia
Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara.

“Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973.
This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …).
When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours.
The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes.
Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad.
But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s.
At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version.
She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during is own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone.
Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara became good friends and performed several other duets later on.
The 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal)
    th-cam.com/video/eHSyk4SGtuY/w-d-xo.html
is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries.
The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.
Lara is used to perform the song very differently in each of her tour and for instance this 2003 version is even more dramatic

Also her cover of Caruso is wonderful and she wrote and sings the song Broken Vow made most famous by Josh Groban. Thank you for this gift of a reaction. If you get the chance, watch her in this video after the song ends. She doesn't get out of character. She is totally devastated and she remains in that state throughout the applause. What I have discovered that she is the consummate professional. I've listened to every performance from her concert "From Lara with Love 2000" - outstanding! Her signature song is Je Taime sung at her concert "Live from Paris 2001" most of the song are sung in French - her performance of Je Taime at that concert is epic and emotional as it is with all her performances.

    Hello *"Your Online Singing Coach,"*
Everything is there to make this performance one of the most perfect performances ever performed on stage.
The lyrics first; this text is quite simply amazingly beautiful, as hard as it is tender and tragic at the same time, borrowed from irony, melancholy, but also rebellion and anger in the face of the inability to fight this evil which devours the author (Serge Lama, in reality, in 1973) and which pushes her into these last entrenchments, to the limit of the bearable, forcing her to succumb, without desire, and without taste, to the sirens of prohibited products, without even achieving her ends: *"Un seul être vous manque, et tout est dépeuplé"* (Only one Being is missing you, and everything is depopulated) said the brilliant aphorism of the French author *Lamartine* in his poem *"L''isolement"* (The isolation).
The music then, incredibly in harmony with the lyrics of the song and following the waltz of these feelings yet so contrasting without ever failing to adapt perfectly to each situation; Here, the arrangements, of course, have a significant role to play in creating this atmosphere as intimate as the sudden lyrical flights that surprise us at every turn.
And, to top it off, Lara's unique voice, her undeniable talent for underlining a word, a sentence, changing tone without ever tossing off the ride, as a lambda driver would, however, do at the wheel of a dream machine like a Formula One. Which, nevertheless, he couldn't control and would cause untimely jerks.
Lara is, in a way, the gifted pilot of this jewel of engineering, with such fragile precision mechanics for those who can't negotiate these 180° turns, which follow one another without discontinuing, and she makes us cross the last straight line before the finish line in such a magisterial way.
This is also how we differentiate genius from mere talent.
    Peace, folks. ☮😉

The world has a lot of beauty or beauties that many or most people don't seem to appreciate. One of the very rare beauties in our world today is none other than Lara Fabian. She's the true artist in the absolute masterclass category.
Starting of it can be noted how engaged she becomes with the piece that she's about strike on. The different transitions vocally and physically (body language) including facial expressions... All very emotionally done too. The way she directed the Orchestra after the moment of a capella, so skillfully done.
You too, I sense can tell us a lot more about the goings-on of the various artists with regard to vocal techniques, stage presence and performances. Be that as it may, I like and appreciate your reaction videos. Every little bit helps with the learning process, which is alway an ongoing activity. ❤

Comparing Lara to Celine is so ironic, because back in the day, they were "rivals" of sorts when Celine's executives (supposedly), made a huge effort to hamper Lara's career by contacting huge venues in the USA, and proclaiming that Celine would not book any venue that allowed Lara to book there.... From what I understand, Lara almost gave up her music career because she felt like she was running into wall after wall, and basically getting black-balled out of the US market, and Canada was obviously Celine's "turf", so the "Western market" was pretty much taken from her, or at very least severely reduced. In my opinion, Lara's musical talent is superior to Celine's, and had she not experienced so much "corruption", she probably would have been the "household name". Celine can sing, don't get me wrong, but Lara is a higher caliber.

Perhaps the best...(IMO)...1 suggestion if I may....never, never cut one of her video's off/short before it ends on its own. You will often gain more insight into Lara and her commitment to her art as well as how she and the audience interact together. Lara seems as though she transports herself to a place where she and the song she is singing become one together. A specific example would be Je Suis Malade....where if you let it run its course, you would have seen the almost trance like state she was in and how she needed time to come out of it.

👉 Lara Fabian (Pronounced: Lah-rah, Fah-bee-yahn) *1970, is a fantastic and brilliant Belgian-Canadian singer, songwriter, musician, actress and producer. She is Belgian but also has Italian roots (her mother is from Sicily). She grew up in both countries and therefore speaks both French and Italian as her mother tongue. She was classically trained in singing, piano and song composition for 10 years (from 8 to 18) at the Brussels Royal Conservatory.
To this day she has singing lessons and trains several times a week. She started her career in Canada in the early 1990s. She now lives in Montreal and also has Canadian citizenship. She is fluent in 4 languages (French, Italian, English, Spanish) and has sung in a total of 12 languages. She has sold over 20 million records worldwide as of September 2017 and is one of the best-selling Belgian artists of all time.
In 2000, Lara launched her triumphal procession in the US, but a falling out with Sony over her artistic direction and the will of Celine Dion's management to block her path to the US thwarted that plan.
She therefore focused on Europe again and had great success there, expanding her reach to Eastern Europe and Asia where she became an absolute superstar through her many years of collaboration with Igor Krutoy. She's also a star in Brazilia.
Many of their songs are now classics and are covered by other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban...
The US is now rediscovering her through her covers of Lara Fabian songs.
She is Dimash's idol. He has covered many of their songs. She also wrote the lyrics to his song 'Your Love'. and they shared the stage and performed Ti Amo Cosi (composed by Igor Krutoy) along with Aida Garafulina: Ti Amo Cosi - th-cam.com/video/XaQFfqC3lnU/w-d-xo.html

Thsi song was written by iconic French singer Serge Lama (who made a name for himself by also creating a musical about the Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte), and composed by Alice Dona, his former partner in life.
It quickly became a hit and his most famous song, so much so that he can not perform without singing it at everyone of his gigs.
Lara Fabian covered it the way we hear it here, and that probably was her best performance ever. She is a highly skilled singer, but her choice got her to work with poorly inspired producers and tour managers. This got her a reputation of a "superficial" singer, when all she ever wanted was to live her passion for singing. This moment shows how invested and focused she is, perhaps too deeply to have a good knowledge of what happens around her (my 2 cents analysis on what she has been through).
Some day tough, she may well kick back and surprise everyone with her true and pure talent.
I strongly recommend everyone to have a listen at the duet she performed with the late (Claude) Maurane during the 18th "Victoires de La Musique" (French awards for musicians and performers, in pop, classical, jazz). They paired to sing live "Tu Es Mon Autre" ( = "You are my other [one]" or "You are my alter ego"), and this probably was one of the greatest moment in the history of live pop music. One to remember indeed, and everyone in France and Belgium has a place in their hearts for this song.

    Lara Fabian...the ""wow"" girl ..
Like you can see here once again and as it has remained in all the years she has performed....
Her performances can be called minimalistic. Fabian does not have backup dancers. She wears a strict dress code, light makeup, no flashy fingernails, and usually not one or a minimum number of pieces of jewelry on stage.
Her unique very strong but velvety 4.1-octave voice (lyric soprano) whit an exceptional breath control, that is the only thing that the audience receives. The ""Belgian powervoice""
The emotional and very expressive performances always captivates the audience.
On top of that Lara stays simple , humble and she is a very beautiful personality ....
Lara can manipulate her voice like she wants
One of her biggest successes very ''soft"".

Hello sweetheart. First time I run into your page but I subscribed before you finish your reaction, I didn't need more time to decide about a good girl and an interesting reactor. Lara has been a Cinderella. She left Europe at her 19 and came to Canada without money or usefull connections to start a career from zero point and had to spend nights even in a ..car. The fact she is famous and popular all over the world but still almost unknown in US is not a mystery. You can ask Mrs Celine Dion who did everything with her rich husband through Sony Music to block and cancell Lara's career in USA. And they succeeded. Lara came close even to suicidal thoughts due to some tragic love stories. She was fortunately saved from the incredible love she received by her audience in her Paris2001 concert ("je t'aime" etc). Today she looks happy at last with her husband and daughter. But when you talk about her you better not mention "princess" Celine who doesn't seem she has any regrets for what she did to an adorable creature

Yes she did this a lot for this concert. And it worked perfectly because she was using it at the right moment. And it conveyed a lot of emotions and meaning.
But then, the following concerts, she stopped doing that. Maybe due to some unfair critics.
I saw once a so-called “vocal coach” reacting to the absolute masterpiece Broken Vow who focused only on this and said Lara was crap and not in control of her vocals. In fact, she, the “coach”, was the only one crap. She was not coaching anything, nor resonating to any artistry or emotion. Just enforcing a set of vocal “rules” that she believed was deciding if a live rendition was good. Her only focus was to check if a perf was compliant or not to her “golden rules”. I never attended a reaction from this miserable art destroyer again. 😂

Oh, you ended this video too soon by 15 to 20 seconds, it's the total climax to this song, it shows her almost ready to collapse because she put so much of her self emotionally into the song! "Broken Vow" should be your next song by Lara Fabian. From the same concert "Lara With Love" in 2000.

Lara is special and there are few like her. Sohyang is another one, with many people including me think she is the best. Please check her out. It’s a big rabbit hole.

In theatre it's called "the Moment Before." I'd love to talk with you more about it. Would you consider a collaboration video?

I thought I have seen you reacting to this before. But as a vocal coach you surely know Dimash. And he is so good but he said that Lara was an inspiration (he is looking up to her)

Lara is phenomenal. Can you please react to Australian legend John Farnham “help” live with the Melbourne symphony orchestra please. We call John the voice down under

Will you please react to Lara Fabian & Mario Frangoulis cover of Cole Porters So in Love from Kiss Me Kate? I would love to see your thoughts. Mario also have an amazing voice and is classically trained and has a beautiful cover of Knights in White Satin in Italian!
