I've been doing calligraphy for about 5 years now in a number of different styles as a way to improve my English handwriting and help with my studies in Mandarin and Japanese. This video puts into words what I love so much about this beautiful and functional art form. I think we can all learn something from this great master of his craft.
A wonderful documentary. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it and I could truly understand every meaning of what MR. Oh was trying to relate to calligraphy, his perceptions and life. I feel as though I am looking at reflection of myself in the mirror, as my feelings are no different from that of his. I am an Indian and started calligraphy in 1995, when my life came to a standstill. I am self taught, used only a teach yourself Mandarin Book, there has been no turning back and this is my nirvana
Very interesting how these calligraphers emphasise a vice-grip on the brush as opposed to the very light grip taught in Western styles like Spencerian penmanship, which I study. It's a whole other world, really cool stuff.
Minh Vu I don't mean like that, it's just that they say there's a lot of deliberate energy in the grip as opposed to pointed pen where a very very light touch is ideal.
