Built 126 years ago from 1887-93, this battery defended the Thames prior to World War One. It was innovative for its simple cheap defenses - an unclimbable metal fence, unlike moats e.t.c. of medieval origin.

Indeed - luckily this area is kept secret and free of vandalism by the landowner - many thanks to him. However some preservation should be put inplace

I stacked it recently, trying to get into the tunnels. Have been in them a few times! Worse thing is, the springtime introduces many stinging nettles... I've been fairly badly stung as well... lol
