I took of my stock reflectors, but I put on some reflective spoke skins. They're very subtle. I added a red reflector tape to the seat post and some small white reflective stickers to the head tube. You don't notice them unless you look very close. I ride at night at lot so i wanted some basic safety in case i forget my lights.
Those are all great ways to stay visible while keeping it undercover. Great job! Iʻve seen those stickers too and if you can get them to match the color of your frame, thatʻs perfect! Thanks for sharing that and for watching! 🤙🏻
I preferred it with the reflectors! All it needed was a basket and a bell. I'm predicting an incredibly smooth ride with those tires. Please give a quick review on those tires for those of us who have never even seen Smoothies before.
I’m sure you fixed it by now , but that front cable was ran completely wrong . U guys rock ! But I’m calling you out on that one . The wire goes down and then into the guide you skipped on the fork , and then the cable wraps around the inner fork to the caliper , not the outside of the fork , the caliper holds it tight , it won’t move or go in your wheel. Any questions dm me .
I love the idea of matching his and hers bikes. Like most women, my wife has no interest in BMX bikes, but I could see her appreciating something like this. Would love to hear how Bernie’s wife likes it in a future update…

White GT mallet stem, white seat post clamp, white GT seat, white tires, white grips, white cables, white pedals, maybe white brake levers too….

I've never seen slicks on anything but a 20", choppered , banana seat bike with a sissy bar and that one was square like a dragster, but on a 26" bike it looks almost like your running tubes with no tires. If you take the screws out of the bottle holder mount on the seat tube the seat might go lower. If not, it's an easy way to trim a few oz. when you cut the post. Good luck. It looks cool.

Bern making points with the wife but losing them after liking this first build. lol Nice new ride! I'd go with a teal GT headbadge decal if you can find one. I'd also removed all those WARNING decals on the levers and top tube. Teal components too. No idea how those tires are but they may be iffy in damp and wet conditions. Reason why that seatpost bottomed out are those bottle bosses. That Advent rear derailleur has a weird routing bend for the cable.
Good eye man! Yeah, thanks for sharing that info about the seat post and bottle screw. You know we never even thought of that! Bernieʻs wife should still be fine on that seat post though. Yeah, he needs to take a look at that rear derailleur again. In fact, I think later one he did pull that bend out so it wasnʻt so large. You're right about the rear derailleur cable; they put too much cable on there. It's not terrible, but more likely to get something caught. I would shorten it like you mentioned it, but then of course you'll have to reset and adjust everything. Don't shorten too much; it should have a little curve - check the website photo. Most hydraulic disc brakes have two pistons, so they clamp from both sides. Some have FOUR pistons! I highly recommend taking the wheels off, take the tires off, check to make sure all the spoke holes are normal with nothing sharp, true the wheels, and put it all back together. CHEERS!!
Maybe just pulling it from the front would do it.
@@stephanbelanger305 I was mostly listening to this while I was working, but you may be right. Typically, the back piece of cable housing on a rear derailleur is a separate piece of housing (with bare cable in-between). But you are right, if this is one long piece of housing with no break, and it's not cinched down somewhere too tight, then they should be able to pull carefully from the front. Good eye! If that is the case, then that means the cable (along with the housing) is probably bunched up somewhere, so straightening it out should help with shifting performance also.
Thanks for all of the great tips! One thing Bernie and I always talk about but never had the balls to do yet is to learn how to build a wheelset from scratch. Learning how to do that and true the wheels would be super helpful for us and we really need to just try it. Appreciate all of the awesome tips you always provide! Thatʻs why youʻre our favorite mechanic! 🤙🏻
@@cruisinginthe808 HUGE difference between lacing from scratch and truing an already built wheel that should be decently straight. Get a truing stand if you don't have one! I love the Park Tool TS-8 Truing Stand. I got one on sale for 140.

I always low ride. 20" 24" back to when I was young.
Back in the day we never rode ours low, even though we raced and it would have been way better to keep the seat low. For the modern street rider doing tricks, I can totally see keeping that seat low. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻

I loved GT back in the day and at one point had 3 of the 2019 29" performers. I found it very dissapointing when i saw the specs for the 10 speed street performer having the square taper bottom bracket, thats walmart grade BB requiring crazy special tools to change out.
My guess is they had to cut some corners somehow which is unfortunate. The bike rides well but yeah, you can tell by some of the parts that they could have used some better stuff. That would have brought up the price too though so I guess you gotta take that into consideration too. Thanks for taking the time to share that and for watching! 🤙🏻

Question for you guys, I’m a mountain biker , however I would like to get a BMX again like 26 or 29”, what about big BMX makes you guys enjoy it more than MTB?
Great question man and thanks for asking! I think for us older guys, getting back into BMX again is a way to connect us back to our childhood when our bikes were our lives. I was on my bike literally every day and it was my main mode of transportation to and from my friendʻs house. BMX racing was my all time favorite sport to do and I loved every single thing about it. I loved working on my bike and making changes to it. I even loved cleaning it! Being on a bike that much as a kid led me to MTB bikes and I have a Trek full suspension bike that I was all into. But at 40, I realized that I couldnʻt do the things I could when I was a kid. Oh, I tried and ate it good a couple times and the recovery process was so long. I also donʻt have the same sized balls as I used to and so I found myself not trying to really launch anything on the trails. Now when I get on a big BMX bike, itʻs all about the cruise. Itʻs about getting outside, getting some much needed exercise, while being able to ride with my buddy where we can talk about all kinds of stuff. Itʻs like therapy really. So to try and answer your question after all of that, Iʻd have to say that it all depends on you and what you want out of it. I donʻt know your BMX background or how old you are or when you started. Your experience could be way different than mine so Iʻm not sure how much I can help you. I can tell you though, with 100% confidence, that if you pick one up and start riding with some people in your area who also have them, youʻll find another family of people to hang out with. Thatʻs one of the best things about this, getting to meet new people. Look at us? I donʻt even know you but if we were to meet up someplace and ride, I bet we could find stuff to talk about and enjoy it. I piked up MTB in my teens and 20s, now I'm in my 40's, however i live close to the coast in Huntington Beach, so to get out and ride trails I have to put my bike in the truck and drive to trails. I would like to get a big BMX to ride around my house, the beach and more urban stuff. I got on a 29" Black Opps bike and it felt awesome brah! Any who, love your content, I try to watch all of your videos, keep them up! Also, I'm a drummer and a huge fan of reggae. Hawaiian Reggae is my all time favorite style of reggae and I keep up with all those bradhas! I'm actually coming to Kauai this summer, what island are you guys on?
