awww i got zero cred for doing the HD LED mod in the 00's because there was no youtube and the blog that had the build log is long dead. Back when we had to hand wire any LED mods for PC building. Blue LEDs had to be ordered from mouser or digikey and amazon only sold books.
You want to talk inadequate packaging for shipping? I once ordered an SDD from Adorama, and it came as the bare device between two sticky layers of plastic with a shipping label stuck on. Kind of like a plastic bag, but it wasn't even a bag. They had some sort of plastic with adhesive similar to sticky note glue. They just threw the thing down on the sheet and folded it over. It actually worked, but I yelled at them a lot and returned it anyway because I didn't trust it to continue to work.

It's been mentioned a few times that they do make 0M RGBLED memory for occupying empty slots, what would be of interest is whether populating with something that is recognized as memory, even if there is no storage, impacts memory performance on the two populated slots. One would like to think that it does not, but you've got a spi device responding to the boot tests as 'Hey, I'm WOM!' and the UEFI code says, "Hey, there's memory in those slots, Memory Throttle time!'

You can get rgb panels for the side of radiators. I know you made real fake RAM sticks, but Corsair do have dummy sticks like this “Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO Light Enhancement Kit”. Not as fun though. Your CPU was likely a tray CPU and not retail packaged one which is why it came in the plastic with no accoutrements. This will also impact any returns based on the intel issues. I’d also recommend a contact frame for your CPU it’s like $10 and can make a decent impact on cooling. What about RGB ports (usb/headphone/ethernet)?
I have a dare for you: There are these small, USB-C thermal cameras, like the InfiRay P2, which have a pretty good resolution, high framerate, and are SUPER small. Normally you have to plug it into a smartphone to make them work, but why not make a pair of Thermal Goggles by somehow jerry-rigging them to work with some kind of smart glasses? Thermal goggles are THOUSANDS of dollars, are huge, and often considered "Dangerous Military Tech". So why not get put in a watchlist by the CIA by making something cheaper, smaller, and about x10 better?
The reason why your CPU came without a box could be that it's "tray" CPU, meaning sold in larger quantities to companies without a box. You can actually check that by entering the batch number on the CPU and the serial number (obtained by scanning the "QR" code on it) on Intel's warranty page. In any case that wouldn't explain why it's getting sold without having ever seen a socket

"Enough RGB to give a blind guy retina burn through a brick wall" - that's something I normally only expect to hear in a Max0r video xD
Also if I ever find someone again who has "some" RGB in their PC and brags how much RGB it has, I'm gonna link them this video, just to make them suffer.
23:36 I love the sudden 4th wall break with you from the future😂
rgb chassis underglow like I have on my computer. its tasteful and easy to do
I only buy cases without windows and try to only buy parts without RGB. I failed to find a graphics card during my last build that didn't have some RGB on it, so had to disable it in software.
I'm in the process of planning a custom case, entirely covered with RGB panels...I'm going from 1 bi-colour LED (HD/power) to roughly 10k RGB LEDs.
Hopefully I won't hate it.
this vid popped up on my feed and when i clicked it it took me directly to some specific settings page, i had to go to your main page to find it again
Dude. This sort of writing is why I enjoy watching your channel more than any other tech youtuber. I literally choked on my drink. Just about died when you said this:
"obliterate your retinas with enough unicorn diarrhea rainbow lighting to give a blind guy a seizure through a brick wall."
6:36 that is a brutal, 'that's what she said' and immediate response of 'she's mean' 😂
Part of me loves the creative engineering that went into this. Then the other part just cries seeing how this was done.
awww i got zero cred for doing the HD LED mod in the 00's because there was no youtube and the blog that had the build log is long dead. Back when we had to hand wire any LED mods for PC building. Blue LEDs had to be ordered from mouser or digikey and amazon only sold books.
You can’t have enough LEDs in life 😭
Its rgb for christs sake, 1000x times better
@@EnjeenierIt’s RGB LEDs, still LEDs
But led makes it sound like those cheapo only white leds
@@Enjeenieryeah agreed, rgb gives bonus points
@@Enjeenier what about light emitting diode makes you think white only
It took me longer than I would like to admit to realize it Zack was saying "RGBled"... I was like "WTF is an ergobled?" :D
A couple months ago I needed some leds and tried to look up Zach's preferred brand, "Ergoblade"... Eventually it clicked 😅
For the ram, some companies actually sell dummy kits of their rgb ram. iirc, these are just empty boards with the rgb heat spreader attached so you can fill your slots with rgb without having to pay full ram kit prices or worry about compatibility
I have been watching Voidstar labs for years and this video is the first time I have come to the realization that an Ergabled isn't some niche techie component I don't need to think too hard about
"13900K" lol, lmao even
0:20 never thought I'd see non-consensual RGB lighting
17:06 "So much as raps about magnets"
So no playing ICP around this thing, got it.
The rawest line of 2024 goes to Zack Freedman
of Void Star Labs
- "Obliterate your retinas with enough unicorn diarrhea rainbow lighting to give a blind guy a seizure through a brick wall"
The entire pc case being clear would have made it a reality.
Spinner wheels make a car shinier and the neon lights underneath it has a street racer vibe to it.
"sometimes you get what you paid for, sometimes you get what somebody else paid for" What a great quote
1:00 the TIME and MONEY part hits hard
Shoulda gone threadripper pro my dude! So many pcie lanes. Think about how many glowing lighty things you can plug into a threadripper
Needs an internal screen that loops the double rainbow vid. As for a name, "Rainbow Road", "Seizure Machine" and "Peak Modern Art" come to mind
i know it technically isn't but the uv reactive acrylic case i had around the turn of the millennium FEELS more RGB. Love the quips, wordplay, and metaphors.
RGB wood is gonna be f-ing sick.
@LGR
22:40 you bed right
this is the tree equivalent of turning grandma's urn into a bong
Haha, my GTX 1070 is still going strong, I don't have the money to upgrade it.
I've also had the angle-grinder sound from my PSU, but thankfully I had a way better PSU on hand because I've helped a friend upgrade his computer, and got his old one, used for maybe 6 months. It's somehow always the fans. I actually got that 1070 for helping upgrade another computer a while back ;P
Since this was all built before this first video release i'm guessing you bought all the parts before the issues with the 13900k were found. oof.
people have has issues since launch, but its just became a bigger story since people are looking into it.
The failed clone scene always struck like a homage to Battle Angel Alita.
Lights around the power socket? Edge lighting under the case? SUPERSLIM RGB TAPE TWISTING AROUND THE RGB SLEAVES ON THE TUBING
I appreciate your humor and word play matched with your latest build adventure!
So I use the same GPU for 3D/ simulation work, the bugger costs even more over here in South Africa (RIP my wallet), I got that one in particular because it would fit the best in my chassis and still allow good airflow especially with all of my HDDs. I use an i9 12900k (funnily enough they launched the 13th gen 2 months after I got my CPu, I thought I should have waited initially, but u had to bite the bullet with work, very glad I missed out on the 13th and 14th gen)
Zack, I don't have the skills or the comprehension to enjoy the maker technobable. I watch every one of your videos anyway because your script writing is second to none.
Stand out writing in this one! The laugh was very cute.
"If you put these on a stick you would have a fan club"
Made my day, and almost makes up for the murder of perfectly good RAM.
