A large number of people have moved out of Blue States because of the very high cost of living and increased homelessness and crime. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA) Left CA in 2017
I planned Portugal in case the worst happened and it did. I couldn’t relive 2016-2020, so I prepared. I’m staying in Portugal, the country that welcomed me with open arms. Best decision ever.
Hey Joric, so good to see you again, it's been a while. No change here, we still plan to move to Portugal when we retire, in 3 years. Our reasons are to be closer to family but also politically adjacent, we want to live in a country with universal healthcare, affordable education system, a more affordable cost of living and for a safer, calmer and healthier lives, all those I think the U.S. falls short on. Please get in touch if you visit NYC.
If you consider cuts to programs that support the people like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, VA healthcare, and SNAP then by all means but I suspect much pain and suffering to include food shortages and increased prices due to tariffs and mass deportations.
@7884Chris Cry harder! We didn't hear you the first time eight years ago when none of that happened (and won't again). But if you think it's the state that protects or saves you, you're already lost.
I've never felt so incredibly optimistic. I can't wait for Christmas and New Years to be over, so the real good stuff can happen! The negative folk will surely reap what they've sown, and I feel so sad for the fearful and the pessimists. It's all gonna elude them.
you were born in 1971. That year and some before I was protesting heavily against the unjust illegal "special operations" in Vietnam. I nearly left then as I had lottery #11 due to be sent there. At the end of war I travelled a lot mostly in Europe and began to awaken to the the corrupt and arrogant attitude that embraces so many Americans and the politicians. The rest of the world is not perfect but America is really bad about it's attitudes. I left permantly 25 years ago and will never return. And yes I did qualify and receive SS pension now at age 71.
I was thinking about maybe moving to Canada.!My paternal grandparents were Canadian. I am a retired social worker from county w/ Socialist leanings. I would move because of politics. Now, I am a practicing Catholic who thinks that perhaps I should stay & help Hispanic in fear of persecution, like the Jews during the Holocaust.
In fear of persecution? Do you mean being held accountable for entering the US ILLEGALLY? That's not persecution, it's following the LAW. Millions upon millions of people have emigrated to the US legally by following the process and millions more are doing so at this very moment, waiting patiently for their turn. What a slap in the face it is to these hard working, law abiding immigrants to have to watch millions just stroll across our open border and be given housing, food, healthcare, education on the TAXPAYER'S dime, while they do it legally and have to pay. Persecution, get real, that is an absurdity beyond belief. By the way please cite one law that discriminates against Hispanics (or anyone for that matter) in America.
The taxes, bureaucracy, language issues, and overall logistics of a permanent move out of the US are more than I want to deal with at this time. My solution is to travel outside the US as much as possible during the next four years of chaos, and hope that sanity returns in 2028.
Chaos? Not this time, Trump isn't surrounding himself with DC insiders this time. No more undermining his agenda from inside the White House, and with Democrats in the minority there won't be any Democrat orchestrated chaos. As far as leaving because this one or that one gets elected, get out and go no-one cares and you won't be missed.
There are many countries in Europe that you could move to in maybe less than 6 months. The process starts in the States, so look up a country you want to move to, then see what the requirements are to get the ball rolling.
Yes. I was planning on moving to France in late 2025. Now I am going May 2025. THe election results hastened that. I'm 65. Women in my family do not tend to live long lives. I am not spending my next 5, if lucky maybe 10 years of life, here in this climate. I've earned this move to France and a reprieve from US-brand crazy to be my base for long-postponed travel throughout Europe and nearby (Egypt maybe?). Politics everywhere are dicey. I've been deeply involved in politics in rural Texas, trying to effect changes, since 2021. I am burned out. I want to spend time on me and spoil my aging dogs. Plus, I am a monstrous Tour de France fan, and I am so excited to be able to follow them again THIS SUMMER in person! I have zero plans to move back to the US. I am the sole remaining person in my birth family, no kids, and I already have 6 people lining up to come visit me once I get a long-term rental in place after my initial 3-month AirBnB. Good to see you again - I was wondering what y'all were up to! Happy Holidays!
The dust has settled on the US election. Do the results have any impact on where you may move in the coming years?
I wouldn’t move based on a politician that I disliked

Several people have sent emails to me saying the same thing.
NO! Amazing work coming soon in the US.

@@7884Chris What a sad little snowflake…

The coming reckoning over the income gap is much larger then one man.

Don't move here. We have enough leftists here. You should try North Korea.

If you're waiting for Democrats to take back Congress and the Presidency, you aren't waiting for a return to sanity.

Great to hear from you and Happy Holidays! France will be the perfect spot for you.
Bye bye enjoy all France has to offer while we enjoy the reawakening of America, still the greatest nation the world has ever known.
No. Hope in America's future is possible again!
It is now that Trump has been elected.
Well... bye.
