- Why "mythic levels" should be introduced and why they should be level 32/33+
Here I am, sharing my experience with Onyxia, to argue about the importance of having mythic levels in the game and why I believe these battles should happen at level 32/33+.
Is Onyxia hard or do you just not have the level?
First, a bit of context. When I first defeated Onyxia, I was at level 24.7, without any epic gear, and back then there was no diamond slot. To give you an idea of how challenging it was, check out this video of that experience: video link. I know exactly how tough it is to try to defeat this boss under those conditions.
Recently, after watching a guide on how to face Onyxia, I decided to revisit the challenge to see how much time and my character’s progression, with more levels, would make a difference. And, as expected, level makes a huge impact. What was once a difficult battle became a much easier one.
The importance of level and challenge: Onyxia in the current context
With this, it’s clear that Onyxia, in practice, is an accessible fight - as long as you have the appropriate level. In the case of level 31, for example, the difference in performance was significant. However, what really made me reflect on the experience was realizing how the game loses its challenges as you level up.
I remember when I finished the campaign at level 22. Back then, when I saw Onyxia at level 30, I knew I would have to farm a lot to reach the necessary power to face her. That feeling of progress and overcoming challenges was one of the most exciting parts of the game.
Why it's time to introduce more difficulty?
Now, over a year after this journey, I can’t help but think: Wouldn't it be amazing if the game had harder modes? Like me, who needed a year to face Onyxia, many players deserve a more challenging combat experience that still has the goal of making you keep progressing.
I’m a big fan of the idea of a mythic system in the game. A mode where content is designed for higher-level players, with huge challenges, harder enemies, and progression that really demands more effort. Of course, it doesn’t need to be accessible to everyone, but just the fact of having that extra difficulty available would encourage players to seek more levels and power. Who knows, maybe even giving them the chance to face Onyxia again, or other epic bosses, with a higher level of difficulty.
Conclusion
Of course, Onyxia can be considered easy for higher-level players, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have more challenges for the more dedicated players. Introducing "mythic levels" and a difficulty of level 32/33+ could bring more excitement and rewards to the game. I truly hope that in the near future, the game becomes more challenging, creating a continuous, evolving journey where the desire to keep playing is fueled by these new goals and challenges.
