Almost every AAA developers stopped trying to create an unique identity, abandoned their style and became the same generic, blend, safe and "realistic" slop
Idk about realistic, it is all about magic souls like combat empty wasteland openworld with generic NPCs It's all generic bland lgtv black lisbyan bossy games.
For me is really hard to get where I stand for on the scale lol Dark games are the best, but the cringy ones can be so fun to play and share with friends XD But for me the Shadow game broke any scale, is to cringy to even make fun of it! Great vid, keep it up!
I miss how 90s-00s gaming had such a vast range of creativity. I love the amount of risk they took on odd concepts in This Y2K era- the Dreamcast/PS2/360. It should show us that GRAPHICS are not the most important thing.. If you can create satisfying movement, gameplay mechanics, physics effects, responsive parts of a environment that makes you want to explore it, engage it, etc. That stuff is so much more important. Not: {"Who can make the largest game map? Or have the most reflections?"} I think Art style, design, vibe, aesthetic is much more important. You don't need top notch graphics to greatly appreciate and enjoy playing a game. That's why we are seeing such a resurgence of players who have gone back to playing older games because they realized the aspects of gaming that they care about and are unhappy with most modern games. So hopefully gaming will enter a new era. That mixes in aspects of the older era's. With our modern capabilities that will hopefully help make it easier to create a satisfying game (without it taking 8 years to build a broken game. Hopefully) Currently everything is trying to be like a Triple AAA game or a free to play online battle Royale game.. A lot of us miss when we had game selection similar to how the Dreamcast/GameCube/360/PS2 era had a mix of. As well alot of those games came with options for local multiplayer, split screen, LAN parties, or offline modes against bots or other diverse offline CPU game modes. Yet modern games are not only lacking those dynamic options that give games nearly endless replayability features... Modern games are lacking even meeting the most basic standards for game's... They don't seemed focused on the core of the games to be Fun. They over focus on "realism" Rather than adding in Artistic adaptations for the greater good of gaming as a whole.. We could be doing so much better yet people are just coming out with the most bland game design, braindead AI, less care for physics effects... We could be doing so much better than this..
Absolutely! That era of games was truly special, even the Dreamcast that died in only two years managed to have more memorable games than the PS5 currently have, and the PS5 is a success in sales 3 years in the market, it's a travesty. It was a generation that no matter what console you had, there was dozens of great titles to enjoy, because like you said, developers weren't afraid to innovate, even when faced with roadblocks, like a low budgets or under-powered consoles. Nowadays we have incredibly powerful consoles and overblown budgets and we get less games than ever, all in the pursuit of ultra realism, shallow eye candy that means very little when the game they're offering aren't fun. Luckily, like you said, some publishers seems to be investing in gaming preservation that in the long term will help tremendously. Castlevania for example, Konami constantly screw things over, but credit where credit is due, these compilations that they are doing are incredible, amazing games, all bundled up for a great price, I would never imagine seeing all 3 DS Castlevania games sold in a collection some years ago. I only hope that the new generation of gamers give those old games a chance to see how things were back in the day, this way maybe we'll see more people being vocal about what the big companies should focus on. Thank you for your very thought out comment!
@@TatsuRabbit Heck yeah dude. Keep up the great work. I really enjoyed your video. BTW I finally decided to order myself one of the many Retro devices that are available nowadays. I went with the Anbernic RG40XX V. It's honestly awesome and is helping tide me over during these times when modern games so rarely come out. Oh Astro Bot definitely is a game that's going in the right direction and I HOPE PlayStation realizes that and commits to a lot more stuff like that.
@@benmcreynolds8581 that's a great purchase, those retro handhelds are amazing. I got a Miyoo Mini + and I'm having a blast with it! My Steam Deck is my main retro console, but it is far from portable. hahaha Yeah, Astro Bot looks awesome, let's hope it is a success in sales, this close to the failure of Concord, it GOTTA give Sony a message...
With all the massive failures this year, ubisoft being absolutely humiliated with 3 fails in a row , stock price crashing, Concord fiasco😮 , vailguard etc etc it's been hilarious watching all them sink - I think people have finally got it through their heads to Never preorder Never trust games 'journalists' opinions when TH-cam exists Return bad games Dont buy just because of a name This truly is the worst generation of games , and the devs and publishers have only got themselves to blame. I only use an old xbox 360 now because I couldn't afford anything newer even if I wanted to. Had to sell my ps4 pro with v2VR. But I'm happy because I am slowly building up a small library of physical games on discs. I mean second hand they're only a couple of quid or so - although the prices are increasing because I'm not the only one doing it. The writing is on the wall and devs have to sort their shit out and go back to making quality products or suffer another 80's style gaming crash. The ball is in their court now.
