This is what we call "The Flounder on Demand Rig" because it really is the best flounder rig and most widely used especially for live bait, or fresh bait. This is the fish-finder rig and works excellent with live finger mullet, shrimp, mud minnows, and a wide variety of really any bait. Another name for this rig is the "Guide Special" because it really is flounder on demand - and in my opinion, the best rig for flounder fishing with live bait.

I'd add a plastic bead on the weight end to protect the knot and to create some clicking noise's in the water, but that's my method. Nice video.

      What he said plus
Turn a bullet weight backwards for FF rigs.
It casts forever and acts as a popper to create fish interest when you do move it

And then you can call it a Carolina rig.

*I would say it’s dang good since **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s caught a pike first time using it! My cousin had one that cost the same price I paid, but for one. And didn’t catch anything. I say it’s a winner!*

Jeff...Great tutorial. As mentioned that rig is frequently referred to as a Carolina rig. I've always used a three way swivel, a 36" leader, and a 2-3 ounce bank sinker when fishing in the surf. A guy who knew how to catch flounder told me that "if you think you are reeling slow enough you are reeling twice as fast as you need to be." And he was absolutely right! Growing up in NJ any flounder less than 20" "wasn't worth keeping" according to my father. Mostly we caught fish in the 25" range back then...late 50's early 60's.

Carolina rig, i was in VB and fished rudee, Willoughby, and little creek only to get 2 over 18 and dinks. Where do you think they were hiding, in back creeks? I visit family and try to salt water fish when I'm home. We fished mostly jetties and grass lines

It’s really called a Carolina rig specially to us locals...fish finder rig uses a triangle sinker

Should the leader to the hook be about 24” or more

Flounder burry themselves in the sand and don't want to chase their bait to far from the bottom - they are ambush feeders, so keep your bait near the bottom at 1 to 2 feet of leader.

Why kill the minnow?? Really to many animal rights people will condemn you for this.
Always had a lot of luck using a jig in front for the weight (tandem leaders.). Would catch flounder and trout on either hook.
    Right lines,!

Really? Cant you see hes in a Baitshop. He probably unhooked the minnow and put him back in the minnow tank. The minnow is doing just fine Buddy.

That's just not smart. You dont need to lose a swivel because hang ups happen. Tie on straight to 1 oz weight then tie your leader from weight to hook.

I hook minnow thru the tail. It can flutter and try to swim . Lives a lot longer too.

So you tie a Carolina rig with a 3/8 - 1 oz weight and a 1/0 or 2/0 hook. This is not new. I’ve been tying this rig since the 1950’s and it wasn’t new then.

Did you say hook through the lip so the minnow is nice and happy. Live baiting is cruel and unneeded.

don't tighten knots like the polymer without water to lubricate it otherwise your weakening the line.

Fishing the back bays in NJ the top and bottom kingfish rig with minnows is our go to. We don’t waste our time with anything other than live minnows. Catch tons of them from 12-22 inches.
