I love film and the look it gives. Props to everybody that still shoots on film because I know it's tough but can be rewarding.

You didn't mention incident vs. reflective light metering for portrait shoots. The cellphone apps are great but often lack good incident metering. Usage of grey card for color film would also be good to use to ensure correct white balance with color film. The posted film photos look great!

Another great tip for people switching from digital to analog: If you own a DSLR, or better: a DSLM - use those as the light meter. Keep in mind that film in contrast to digital always looks better overexposed and (especially in high grade) colour neg film stocks you can easily(!) overexpose by 1-2 stops.
It also ties into the "Don't start with your big idea" thing. I use my digital camera the first 15-30 min of a shoot to get the warm up phase over with. Get to know the model, the mood, your chemistry, the workflow etc. And then switch to my analogue ones. The Fuji X Series is perfect for this due to the ergonomics and also the design witch is based on analogue cameras. Use those wheels on top, dial in everything manually even then.
    And again: always overexpose.

Great stuff. As for me, when using very old Medium format cameras - one technique I use for getting a reasonable light value on a subject ie: a person - is to have my old Nikon FM. I use its built in light meter. I set the ISO of the MF, eg Ilford FP4 film, onto the Nikon FM -it works very well. OK, I have to lug! that about, if I'm out doors etc.

What constant lights were you using in the studio clip?

be wary of how much you bring. You want to be discreet. I've been chased off public property before because I was "Too close" to someones business. So like the areas shown in alot of this video, yeah more than likely private property. So just go in light and quick and have many other places in mind to go that day. Cool video.

The light meter app you use is free. Or at least it was when I got it 2 years ago.

Any tips on shooting portraits for golden hour? Any metering tips? I’ll be shooting Portra 400 but this will be my first time shooting at the last golden hour of the day.
