      @@king13604 Trump could learn a lot from Mandela. But back to your statement, different continent, different political structure. Africa is a continent made up of 54 countries, with each country different from the other in terms of political, social and economic structures. Mandela was against apartheid in South Africa and because of his actions against apartheid he went to prison. He was never President before he went to prison. Mandela is a good man. He was the country’s first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by tackling institutionalized racism and fostering racial reconciliation.

    • @UnDaoDu

      Here is what you should put in your email….
      In light of the conviction of Proud Boys leaders for seditious conspiracy, a robust argument emerges for applying the 14th Amendment to potentially disqualify Trump from subsequent presidential candidacies. Their conviction rests on the premise that they conspired to use force against or to oppose the authority of the U.S. government, with their defense highlighting Trump’s alleged encouragement as a central motivating factor.
      Section 3 of the 14th Amendment reads:
      “No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
      Given his past role as a federal official, Trump vowed to defend the Constitution. The defense presented during the Proud Boys’ trial insinuates that their seditious conspiracy was influenced or spurred by Trump’s remarks and actions, suggesting he may have played a part in providing “aid or comfort” to those conspiring against the U.S. government. Trump’s public comments, like advising the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by,” further reinforce this perspective.
      The added dimension of Trump’s implied willingness to pardon these convicted individuals if he were re-elected intensifies the argument that he offered “aid or comfort” to those conspiring seditiously.
      In consideration of the recent seditious conspiracy convictions, and the associated defenses implicating Trump’s influence and encouragement, there exists a substantial argument for invoking the 14th Amendment to preclude Trump from pursuing future federal office.

      Good question. The Proud Boys got jail terms for Seditious Conspiracy. That’s one law that can apply to anyone who breaks the law this way.
      Elected officials have a duty and responsibility with different terms that apply based on their being Public Servants.
      Various convictions can prevent the convict from voting in the future - preventing their future participation in our Democracy.
      Other convictions trigger different outcomes for Public Servants. These convicts are prevented also from holding elected office in the future- this prevents them from participating in our democracy as future elected public servants.
      That’s my understanding of it. I’ll defer to anybody with legal expertise.

    Resolution Concerning the Application of the 14th Amendment, Section 3 in the Light of Recent Seditious Conspiracy Convictions
    Whereas, the 14th Amendment, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution stipulates that no person who has sworn an oath to support the Constitution, but subsequently engaged in insurrection or rebellion against it, or given aid or comfort to its enemies, shall hold any office under the United States;
    Whereas, Proud Boys leaders have been convicted of seditious conspiracy, a crime intrinsically linked to the notions of insurrection and rebellion;
    Whereas, during their defense, these leaders cited encouragement from the former President as a significant motivating factor for their actions;
    Whereas, a past federal official, including the former President, has sworn an oath to uphold and protect the Constitution;
    Whereas, public statements such as “stand back and stand by” have been made, which can be construed as an endorsement or encouragement of potentially insurrectionist actions;
    Whereas, further implications arise from the suggestion of potentially pardoning those convicted of such serious offenses;
    Therefore, based on the above considerations and the mounting evidence linking encouragement to acts of seditious conspiracy, there exists a compelling argument for invoking the 14th Amendment, Section 3 to disqualify the former President from holding future federal office.

      I agree it’s never happened before. All the more reason to be clear about what constitutes disqualification.

      @fredfreddy8684 Don or the GOP don’t get to decide what the terms of disqualification involve, any more than the Courts.

      The Secy of State is in the Executive Branch silo. There is zero Judicial responsibility to conduct elections here…
