Excellent player and role model for the youngest children to the eldest that can play. The high notes are what’s what has always held me back! I haven’t played the trumpet in 35 years. My wife just bought me a trumpet and I play like crap. I’m disabled and I have all the time in the world to practice! Pray I don’t get frustrated and put it in the trash. I am no 56 years old.

You do not sound like crap, you might sound like a beginner though. It is up to you whether you end up throwing it in the trash. If you give up, at least give the horn to someone who can use it. You can still learn new things, even later in life, why not? I believe in you.

I played at a festival Randy was playing at years ago, it was chaotic but he played great. I was struck by two things:he's a clever man and he has great concentration.

I am always so impressed by these giants who are still willing to teach and share their knowledge with young players! Thanks for everything, Mr Brecker!

Words of wisdom from one of the last few true icons of jazz trumpeter's, after Woody Shaw there's not many cats left that I respect and Randy is definitely one of them. Having lived most of my life in Philadelphia what he's saying is so true. Just to show you the state of spirituality in this world today ,with all the crap garbage music that's out there nowadays, here's one of the greatest trumpet players that ever walked on the planet ,he forgot more than I'll ever know and this videos only got 379 views in 3 years ,just goes to show you where people's heads are at nowadays.

Randy is one of my inspirations to play jazz. For all the influences he mentions, he really caught my ear with his unique lines and phasing. How often do we hear that the master players grew up in a musical environment? It helps.

What is the Bugs Bower book he mentions at 8:10? Sounded like Sketch something Jazz Solos by Bugs Bower.

The book(s) are called “Sketch Orchs”. They were published by Charles Colin who had a shop on West 48 street in NYC. He and Bugs collaborated on a lot of great books.

Randy has mentioned Lee Morgan as one of his early favorite trumpet players. Can't remember everything, but that's a good call. Randy loved Lee Morgan.

Great clinic, honest, humble, and open about his music. True artist. Michael was the same.
