- In this video we use Ableton Live 12 to explore different patching techniques using my M4L gamepad device. Loads of fun!

Love it! Joined the patreon instantly :) Is the 3.1 version of this m4l device somewhere on there>
Ayyyy thank you so much!! Uhhh I think so? The only difference would be a lack of a touch pad
Hi VR!!! :DDD
You are such a great resource! This is awesome
Thanks so much!
I can tell you’re User Friendly’s assistant because this video wasn’t directed by an opossum haha
Love the gamepad device & the detailed breakdown of it. Thanks for the awesome videos, tutorials & all the goodies you supply on your patreon! :)
hahah And thank you for all the kind words and support!
The video we’ve been waiting for and it doesn’t disappoint !!
Ayyyy thanks, Mr. Lidell!
I know the old voice is your thing, but I just subscribed in the hopes that you continue to release videos with a normal voice. Thanks for the video!
Just got a dualsense edge so I could get the most out of this device. Really interested to see what I can do running it as a control source for other modulators like Dispatch or the hypnus slink effects. I'll definitely have this video playing on repeat for the next few nights
That looks so cool! 🙌
The CV Utility tool will allow you to map to multiple sources - and even allows adding an LFO to the modulation signal from the gamepad, using another control element on the gamepad, for example.
Excellent
hello! love your implementation of this gamepad idea
i have a question - does your device only work with usb-connected controllers or it can detect ones connected by bluetooth aswell?
Thanks! Actually this is Bluetooth. It works via Bluetooth for everything accept for the touch pad and gyro. For those you need to have the cable attached :)
hello!
just checked your device with a ps4 gamepad - on macos the gyro and touchpad work normal via bluetooth,
for windows you can launch JoyShockMapper with the gamepad enabled before launching Ableton and the gyro and pad will work without cables
cheers :-) going to use the device for a live performance tomorrow
@@predawka Awesome! And thanks for the tip!!
"It does get a little confusing but ... I enjoy it"
It’s true lol I get bored if I’m not partially confused.
You can also have sends directly on the main chain
assistant is a funny way of saying vessel operated ratatouille style by a sound design elf
Now do it with the Steam Deck controls! It has 2 pressure sensitive touch pads and touch capacitors on the sticks!
Sick !
you have a pleasant calm voice, such a bummer all of those videos have the cringe fx on. cant understand a thing on those.
The amount of FX I had to put on my voice to get it to sound like this is crazy
@@userfriendlysounds save that preset. use it.
What happened to your voice? Did you catch a cold?
Do you have a go-to distortion plugin? I watched one of your Emptysetish videos and now that I see you're in Ableton it wouod be cool to see what you could do with Audio Damage's Kombinat Tri plugin.
I’m a big saturn2 fan. I also really like rift, but I mostly just stick with ableton stuff :)
now i want to use ableton with a lightgun
Amazing! But... a single wav of 64 kicks? Why not split them and use a drum rack? Then you can throw any rack in there in the future?
It’s easier to swap out for another chain, all the controls are in one spot, no chance of decay overlap, and I can use the chains easily in other samplers! I know most of these have works around with drum rack, I just like working with chains :)
@@userfriendlysounds Workflow preference I suppose. You can solve overlap by putting them all in the same choke group. But it sounds like you move in and out of ableton.
I did just make a max8 auto chopper, because I regularly autogenerate drum tracks like that and then chop and sort them.
But it's sort of moot because everything that I love in my workflow is probably a specific reason you made the opposite choice lol. Interesting to see! I just subbed for the controller plugin
has anyone tried to do something similar over FL Studio? im sure it's possible although it needs to be entirely redone, biggest challenge maybe would be to get the actual gamepad recognised in fl studio
amazing.
did you tried to map it to the Rytm CC's ?
No rytm but a4!
@@userfriendlysounds nice :D can't wait to see a video of you jamming with both
While I find this totally inspirational I'm not a gamer so know nothing of gamepads. What kind of gamepad will this work with? Any, or a specific type? I want to dive straight into your patches, but this is a stumbling block.
Hey Jussi! The best bet is to get a Ps5 controller. You can find them used online or at stores like Game Stop if you’re in the US for a good price. Brand new they are about $70 usd I think?Connectivity is fairly straight forward and you can follow the directions for the controlled. At least, for me it was easy on a Mac. I’ve heard of some issues when connecting to PC in which case an Xbox controller might be better. But again, I can’t speak to that because I don’t have an Xbox controller or a PC. After getting connected, it’s no different than any other control device! It’s lots of fun :)
Do you have a website or email or something for people to get in touch with you?
Sure! linktr.ee/Userfriendlysounds
Could it work with an Xbox One controller?
It should!
is the patch ready to just use after you download or do you have to like build it out like you do in the vid
Ready to use except I had to pull the samples from the file to upload it to patreon because the samples made it too big to upload. But you can message me on patreon and I’ll send you a version with the samples preloaded if you like :)
@@userfriendlysounds your'e so awesome dude
Would it work with Ableton 11?
Yes
Does it work also with ps4 controller?
I think so, but I’ve not tested it myself
@@userfriendlysoundshello, does it work also with Xbox controller?
what version of Max do I need to make it work?
@xxx-tb3fw yes
@xxx-tb3fw it should work as long as you have ableton 12 I think. I don’t think you need max for M4L devices to work
