What's most amazing is that they don't build it only for one year, they build it every year and with different designs and looks, and this year it is already the 25th year they are doing it (Ice and Snow World). And I laughed when you bought the Bingtanghulu (sugar coated strawberries), because my immediate thought was it would be frozen. 🤣
Not only 25 years, Harbin is my hometown, we grew up with these ice sculptures, going to see ice sculptures is one of our winter must dos every year and I’m in my fifties 😊, they just started call it ice festival 25 years ago.

I was born and raised in Harbin the ice city. They have been building those colorful ice buildings since 1980s, not as big as they are now, but it was still breathtaking. The video is not enough to show the magnificent colors and view. Everyone should physically be there to witness the fantastic art. You will be shocked. You won't see it anywhere else in the world.
About 20 years ago, I went there. The snow and ice buildings were so fantastic that I still remember the details after all these years. It was just like walking into a fairy world.
Thank you for visiting my hometown and sharing your experience! Northeastern China is known for its warm and welcoming people, and the magical ice and snow world. Harbin is also a city of music, you may try to visit it again during the summertime to enjoy the cool weather and the artistic atmosphere😊
A few years ago in South Africa, they got some of the Chinese ice experts from China to construct a similar feature only on a smaller scale at a local shopping centre in Johannesburg. We were given special jackets to keep warm as we do not all have these thick jackets in our own walldrobe in South Africa. They build an extra large enclosed freezer in the car park as the exhibition was in our peak summer season.
Wow, that's amazing. I visited Texas, US in Dec 2014 I think? They did the same to hire Harbin ice experts to do exhibition (SpongeBob theme) with air conditionings on. People loved it! especially kids as they have the ice sliders, maze, vivid colorful characters, super fun! And I heard it only took the Harbin team 2-3 weeks to build it from ground up😂 that's impressive

South Korea is inviting Chinese ice sculpture experts to help build its own ice world. A few years later, SK would apply for the UNECO heritage once they master Chinese skills.
More than 100 years ago, Harbin, a super city in the Far East, suddenly gained attention again this year. Harbin is one of the six major music capitals in the world and the only "music capital" in Asia, on par with Vienna. For a hundred years, it has been known as "Paris of the East" and "Moscow of the East", and once gathered nobles and nobles from 23 European countries. In the early 20th century, its advanced level far surpassed that of Shanghai. Since the beginning of this year, it has once again attracted global attention and may rise again in the future! Realize great rejuvenation!
I also want to wish from the bottom of my heart to you Barett and to the whole world Happy New Year. It's so excited you share with us this wonderful event which is taken place every year, in the city of Harbin!🥰

But even so, when I saw the "true form" of these icy masterpieces, it still shocking me and mind-blowing! I completely understand yours feeling when you are at the site, Lee. What a stunning view 🤩💥
One of the more amazing facts is this: the ice cubes are cut from the river in the winter and stored centrally, and they are kept outdoors for an entire summer and autumn, and in the winter they are used to build these snow buildings. The reason for this is that in early winter, when the newly frozen rivers are not equipped to collect giant ice cubes, the organizers store the ice in the winter of the previous year in order to start building these structures as soon as winter begins.
Thanks Lee for sharing, this vid makes me want to be there. Breath taking and awesome ice city views indeed. This will be one of my wish list to visit. Happy Icy New Year to you mate. ❄☃ 🥰

I visited the Harbin ice festival in 1981 when China had just started her economic reform. The ice festival was spectacular and worth visiting. There was fireworks at 4p.m. and then followed by the openning of the festival. It was full of joy particularly for me, a young adult from the south (Guangdong). I went to Jilin as well and it was -40 Celcius and I found it less cold than Guangchou. It was just so strange that the feeling of coldness in Hong Kong was far chill than in Harbin and Jilin.
