Indeed it is a sad day for people who remember Trini Lopez. His partner/drummer Mickey Jones was a great musician as well as Trini. I knew Mickey personally and he also was a great man. Mickey taught me how to play drums when I was about 16 years old, by listening to Trini's albums. Its been a real treat to be aware of both Trini and Mickey in this lifetime. They are both sadly missed. Rest in peace my musician friend.

He was my daughter's godfather. He and one of best friends baptized my daughter 43 years ago. Invited us to his performance in Dallas and where they served dinner. He paid for all of us. We were ten enjoying dinner and his performance. The place was packed. That was in 1977. A great performer and very benevolent to his family and friends. Rip compadre. And may you be performing in heaven.

My late father loved Trini Lopez and listened to his songs a lot in the 60s when I was just 6 or 7 years old. He had an LP and played the record regularly. We don't speak Spanish but it did not deter us from appreciating the music.
One of the few cassettes we had in our car growing up was of Trini Lopez. I could not understand the words but his music always made me happy. I will always remember those days driving to the beach on these tunes..

On this day in 1966 {Jan. 17th} Trini Lopez performed "La Bamba" on the NBC-TV program 'Hallabaloo!'.
Six months later on June 25th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #86 & spent 5 weeks on the Top 100.
In 1959 Richie Valens took it to #22 on the Top 100 {it was the B-side of "Donna", which reached #2 {for 2 weeks}.
And in 1987 it was covered by Los Lobos; & on Aug. 29th, 1987 their version peaked at #1 {for 3 weeks} on the Top 100.

Chega a ser estranho, o Richie era mais novo e morreu há 61 anos num acidente aéreo muito jovem, e o Trine 4 anos mais velho morreu hoje de coronavirus, como seria essas 2 feras fazendo dueto dessa música, já pensou???
que no se nos olvide mexicanos, que la "la bamba" es una cancion 100 por ciento mexicana originaria de el hermoso puerto de veracruz
