Alfred Ganzenmüller your guide was a great help to me. The cassette jammed and flap could no longer be opened. From the video I could see which parts could be disconnected. After some back and forth I made it. The flap can be opened again. Thank you very much.
Hey Darren, just let me congratulate you again for this video. It was my salvation, Actually, i had the main gear damaged (on the main motor). I could find a replace part and through your video it was so easy to put all back together. Cheers!!.
Thanks a lot! It was my first tape deck to repair and I probably couldn't have done it without your help! - The trickiest part (for me) was the desoldering...
Great video and a Great Autoreverse 2-head deck too, i bought my RS-BX501 1999 for birthdaymoney (14th birthday) and savings, i still have it, and use it mostly for playback so it has got high milage, but still i never been inside it, just cleaning and demag... For recording i use an RS-AZ7 3-head deck... Also have an old Tandberg TCD310 Mk2
Excellent video, so that step by step 1- open and remove the cover with all connections and close. 2- disconnect all connections. 3- completely remove the mechanism from the front panel, without further problems. 4- desolder the power supply of the motor to be able to remove the circuit. ****I have the mechanical problem with opening and closing. The gear has broken. ****It always worked well. If I don't find the solution, I can give everything to those interested in spare parts. Let me know if you are interested?
HELLO I have your same technics rs bx501 deck, I have the audio cassette left inside and the drawer doesn't open anymore. How can I do to get it to open and remove the audio cassette? Thank you Orlando.
That's not a easy one. Ive had to rotate the flywheels and trigger the door open manually on other decks. It usually happens when the belt is too loose on a logic control deck and cannot overcome the friction. It may require a disassemble to release the door.
Check the take-up spool is rotating inside the cassete or the autostop will cut in after a few seconds. try both directions. The take up is done by a second motor via a gear. Daz
Good video, but after looking at my rs tr474 it looks like you take the whole tape unit out and do it from the front of the unit. will let you know if my method works when I get the belts
In the case of this deck, the pinch wheels have plastic rods at each end. The pinch wheel can be carefully unclipped from the levers. I found some on Ebay, but were expensive solution. My temporary solution of fitting a another rubber roller over the plastic worked, but it was hard finding one of the right size and I couldn't find a second one, hence just spending the money.
Hi, I dont sell parts. I had to fit a pinch wheel from another deck by removing the rubber part and fitting it too the spindle. I have seen them on auction sites from time to time.
Oh I wish my twin deck was as easy to work on. If you can fix my deck you could easily dismantle an atomic bomb. Trying to diagnose why one of the decks is in constant play mode.
Logic controlled decks are a pain, but often it's something simple, but you have to know how it works first. Having two decks gives you something to compare with.
@@darrencoe5795 thanks for quick reply. I’m actually watching your TH-cam clip right now. The mechanism for my cassette is incredibly complex. I changed belts no problem but the lift mechanism is in the top position constantly.
Beautiful machine, but it's a complete bitchy way to open the mechanism to do some restoration. I thought my Sony WE605S was hard to repair but your deck was worse.

Thanks very much for posting this Darren, you've just helped me sort out changing the belt and pinch rollers on an RS-BX501.
Excellent - helpful and clear. I'm afraid I'm so bad at soldering that I didn't dare proceed with replacing my belt!

Grreat fix Darren. Nice to see an old cassette machine. I must have 6 in the loft!
Thanks Simon, Only 6, I have 12 now LOL.

Glad it helped! I've just replaced the pinch wheels completely now.
@@darrencoe5795 Playback works fine now but the fast rewind doesn't. Fast forward works as well. Do you have an idea?

you don't need desoldering if you take the whole tape unit out and do it from the front of the unit

A nice set of decks you own. Hopefully your MK2 is a little more refined than my TCD310.

Currently servicing my own 501, really bummed out too that I need to desolder a PCB to get to the belts.

Hi my technics rs bx 501 when i press rew the tape goes to the beginning and won't stop.
What can it be?
Thank you Orlando.
Maybe the mechanism is jammed due a loose belt. Daz

I have a question. I need to remove the plastic window that covers the led display as it's somehow all fogged up. Is there an easy way to do this?
It looks likely the PCB behind would have to come off to access the back of the window. Daz
Hi I have a problem with the same model. It stops to pay any tape after few seconds. Could it be belt fault?

Nice Video. I have a similar issue with the Technics RS-TR474. How did you remove the pinch wheel and where can you get replacements wheels?

Доброго дня. У меня xb701, после открытия кармана он сразу закрывается сам. Возможно сбил метку при замене пассика ? Спасибо
да, проверьте датчик двери и выравнивание переключателей на передней панели.
Yes check door sensor switch and front panel switches as it will close it.
Help please, I need dimensions for belt for this deck. Part number for belt is RDV0015 but I can't find information for dimension. Thank you. ;)
Unfortunate that I never measured the belt I bought from a auction site, A oversight I will note.
No problem. I don't need this information anymore. Thank you anyway ;)
Excellent video, ive fixed /rebelted a few old technics tape decks from the late 70s. Wasnt as tricky as your deck tho. Nicely done!
Does the pinch roller in cassette players move freely or is it connected to motor like the capstan?
Everything so far I've seen has a free moving Pinch roller.
Hi, I just saw your video, I wanted to ask where you ordered the pinch roll for this model or if I can directly order it from you?
