I'm not sure how well known he is outside of Canada, but for us his works are very well known. I saw his Raven and the First Man sculpture when I was a child - probably my most vivid memory from visiting the museum of anthropology, and the killer whale statue was always a welcome sight when visiting the Vancouver Aquarium!
