"Pride was the lone, relatively obscure self-titled collaboration between David Axelrod and his son Michael released in 1970. Almost conceptual in form, the album can best be described as a blend between psychedelic pop and Baroque folk-rock with Mexican folk themes. It features Nooney Rickett of Love and the dual vocals give an almost airy feeling. While this album doesn't have quite the production punch indicative of Axe's solo albums, his deft touch is clearly evident throughout."
D. Axelrod brought a little light, wonder and humor into a period of obscurity and weariness in my life. Listening to it many years later, my sensitivity and admiration I felt for it grew. A difficult listening at first, he lends the orchestral direction of his flayed intelligence, until he draws you inevitably into his universe. Each listening reveals a little more of its mystery, its magic, so this work becomes ineluctably timeless. He's Imperial !!
As a 24 years old man, I've been listening to his music in the past few years and still do until now I'm drunk now and i feel blessed because I'm listening to David Axelrod. His music heals and i wish i was born early enough to attend one of his concerts.
Curious introspective folk rock psych album! It's a wonder Jack Holzman didn't sign him to Elektra Records. Not much is known of David Axelrod ,he wrote and arranged two album for the Electric Prunes and an LP 'Song Of Innocence'(1968). After leading an expedition into the Yukatan Peninsular David Axelrod was never seen again.
Never heard this one.... 3 minutes in --- it's beautiful beautiful ...... beautiful.... as expected and unexpected. There is something always about the floating basslines in these --- I guess that's David playing in many cases ? (When it's not Carol what's her name?)
Красивейший альбом- на все времена! Чудесно!
