@Keith Huddy, if I worked there, I would put the Plum Bob somewhere else and keep the old lift after a cab refurbishment (exept the gates and buttons or an indicator if it had one). I think it just needed a little fixing and then it might have not been removed.
You missed out on the old lift shaft up the main stair case where the pendulam denoteing the rotation of the world now hangs ,this was occupied by a late 18'century attendant controlled bottom drive Marryat and Scott with round guides and midbar picket gates. It was scrapped as it had become delapedated and an eye sore ,and wasent "worthey of historical importance"you can still see whare it used to run last time I was there the landing gates still remained.
The Old Kone Lifts Have Been Modernised By Kone Monospace To Have KSS 140 And The Motor In The Basement Has Been Replaced With A Adapted Version Of The Ecodisc Motor
They haven't been replaced with monospace. Monospace is a Kone equipment package including lift cab, logic, and motor and is MRL suspended to the lift tracks. The lifts were modernized by kone with new logic, motors and buttons. This is a good choice because using a motor room has better build quality than suspending the motor on the lift tracks and there was no need to replace the lift cars.
Update: 0:11 Replaced with Lester voice and slower speed (0.5m/s?) 2:32 Modernised by Kone. The glass motor room is still there. 3:28 Lift has been refurbished and the buttons are replaced with Dewhurst. The left lift no longer has a button for the basement mezzanine.
I went there and levels 4 and 5 were locked off, so what would I do? Terrible lifts go up to locked off exhibits, I WOULD ASK A MEMBER OF STAFF, THE MOST SIMPLE WAY
I've been to the Science Museum quite a few times but so far I've only been in the lifts with the motor room in the basement. Last time I went with my family, we were going to go in the glass lifts but my mum and dad decided that it wasn't worth waiting and we used the stairs- even though it was about 3 floors
They scrapped it !! nothing remains of it anymore ,the stair well the lift used to be in is now where the plumb bob hangs to show how the earth rotates.
Its their words not mine , in a e,mail reply from them after I asked them what happened to it and why it wasent there any more . I suspect it wasent in keeping with their "modern image"they were trying to project when they refurbished the museam ,They could have easely restored it to it original glory and made it a focal point and been more long sighted in the fact the longer it stayed there the more interesting it would become. Yes I do remember the big goods lift with bi parting doors .

That's great how they've made the motor room like an exhibit.

The glass KONE lifts have been modernized. They now have new bottom-drive Ecodisc motors (in the machine room) and KSS 140 buttons.
The_ALEX_ELLIS_Channel At least it’s an ecodisc
