Dallas is a treasure. I know of no other city with a theme song, much less a recognizable theme song. And our Cowboys are loved all over the world. Dallas and the numerous suburbs make it one of the most glorious cities in the world. I love it here and i will forever call this home.
I live in Dallas, and i honestly don't know of another city that has a theme song, but they all should. I love hearing "Dallas". It's a beautiful, mighty piece.
Andrew Litton and the Dallas Symphony, you've made these stars (Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray) and the theme composer (Jerrod Immel) VERY PROUD!
I'm from FORT WORTH ~ love the Big D and the greatest TV theme of all time! Also - it's cute that the British in the audience are flying American flags and all, but it would have been more appropriate to fly our Lone Star flag for the occasion :D
I wish I had Ray's job. I would be so happy and content running the ranch. I have always wanted a little farm of my own. I know Southfork isn't a small operation but still ive always wanted to
Dallas theme tune is immense, I love the horn counterpoints when the trumpets do their thing. You can hear it so clearly on here too. Thanks for posting, Gershwin is one of my favourite pieces too
I can see Jock and JR up in the balcony boxes giving a standing ovation. Well done. Well actually JR would be too busy on his Cell Phone swindling the deal of a lifetime to put Cliff Barnes on the ground. Lol my all time favorite show
That is the way the Dallas theme should be played. I've heard several versions but none measure up to a full concert orchestra. The horn players clearly relish the audience's reaction to the music.
There's some extraordinary melodic magic in both George/Ira Gershwin and Jerrold Immel. Can't knock commercial music. Gershwin was at his best with Tin Pan Alley and Immel's work with television would have made both equally appreciate each other's music, had they been contemporaries. I am sure of that.
I knew the Britons were big "Dallas" fans; now, I've seen it, myself. That was superb!(I am a "Dallas" die-hard, too.)This brings to mind something, really, hokey. In one of the early episodes, Pam & Bobby take Lucy out, on the town. What do we see? Pam boogieing, to the DISCO VERSION, of Jerrold Immel's tune! Funny, that!
Wait. Dallas was popular in 1997? In England? It was still airing in syndication? I had some people in England ask me if I knew JR, after telling them I was from Dallas. They seemed to be a bit young to have watched it, so I was a little confused.
jackdev73 If you listen closely at 4:05 you can hear people in the background acknowledging it, kind of like a sort of laughter. The cheering came after confirmation when french horns started playing.
I had the original CD of Gershwin from 1989 that had his originals… Rhapsody in Blue and the second Rhapsody, and then the walking the dog…. I’m looking for that CD… or that recording! ❤
Not that it matters - especially after that thunderous rendition of Dallas - but Mr. Litton bears quite the resemblance to Matthew Broderick, wouldn't you say?
During the first appearance of the french horns in the Dallas encore, didn't it seem like they were out-of-tune, at least for the first few notes? Also, it seemed like the drummer added at least a measure from the original score.
It tells you the year in the heading under the video! ... If you want the precise date it was from a Proms concert given on Sunday 24th August 1997 in London's Royal Albert Hall.
I noticed that too! Couldn't believe it! If this were opera, the audience would've been storming out the doors after throwing rotten fruits and veggies at the performers. Lol
I watched this when it happened, it was amazing, I used to love the proms, I looked forward to every year. I cannot say the same now its been taken over , all those EU flags sicken me to the pit of my stomach. One day in my lifetime maybe it will come back a be as it was but I won’t hold my breath.
You clearly have no knowledge of the history of the Promenade concerts! ... They were specifically created for a wide informal audience who would pay low prices and come casually dressed. The word "promenade" in the title meant that they could walk around if they wished. In fact, all the people immediately in front of the orchestra, in what is called the Arena, would stand throughout the entire concert. Only the rest of the audience was seated. In any case, the whole point of the Proms was to get away from the stuffiness of formal dress, which is why they attracted many young people ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Proms
I'm not disputing your opinion concerning concert dress; I just have never heard 'respectless' used rather than 'disrespectful'. I am in the U.S., so obviously my grasp of the fundamentals of the English language is tenuous at best. I am simply curious as to whether 'respectless' is widely used in common vernacular in the U.K. Considering I am a native of a nation who insists on spelling 'colour' sans the 'u'; you can't expect much from me.
i disagree, if these guys can only afford a t-shirt then they would be too poor to fly from america to england to listen to a symphony. also, british people have their own look, and i see most of those t-shirt people have that british look about them. your comment is classless, and disrespectful no matter where you yourself are from. however, you are free to be classless if thats your goal.
Love it or hate it, Dallas is one of the best cities in the world
I don't think I have EVER seen such a rowdy orchestra audience! I LOVE IT!!! 🇺🇸❤🇬🇧
Loved the Dallas theme arrangement, it just goes to show that the television series had one of the most iconic theme tunes of all time. :-)
Of ALL time
Plus, how much it's loved outside the United States. It set the standard.
Dallas is a treasure. I know of no other city with a theme song, much less a recognizable theme song. And our Cowboys are loved all over the world. Dallas and the numerous suburbs make it one of the most glorious cities in the world. I love it here and i will forever call this home.
well WKRP in Cincinnati is a pretty popular one too
Finishing off with the theme song from the greatest TV Drama of all time! Priceless!
The Dallas theme song still gives me chills

Guess they are not ready with the Lone Star flag .... I would certainly have one if I were there :D
My favorite tv theme song of all time!!
Dallas theme tune was just grand.... bravo!
Great to see the drummer in full concert attire, rocking out :D
Who knew that a theme from a TV Series would have such a reaction. The moment the audience recognizes the tune their in raptures.
I recognised it before the audience...
Because they like TV more than anything just like the rest of us but they just won't admit it because they are snobs.
Dallas TV series' theme song played by Dallas Symphony .... can't be better!
Beautiful! My all time favorite TV show and theme.. RIP Larry Hagman...
Awwwww, the end french horn player's smile at 4:17 - so cute. :) He's happy for the people listening, nice man!
Overwhelming, makes me tear up
The Spirit of Dallas! ❤
The spirit of j.r. ewing
I'm so addicted to the Dallas Theme song.
Tears of joy from a 70s kid!!!!
Love the conductors childlike smirk during the dallas intro part!
Dallas!!!southfork,JR,oil,money diamonds,big furs,big shoulder pads,cowboy hats and boots!!!I love Dallas!!!
Not to mention the bug hair, too! However, the only thing I couldn't stand was the shoulder-pad look.
I wish I had Ray's job. I would be so happy and content running the ranch. I have always wanted a little farm of my own. I know Southfork isn't a small operation but still ive always wanted to
I love this! 😢. Brings me to tears! Love Gershwin! Walking the Dog, and the Dallas Theme after that! 😢Heart ❤
Excellent version of the "Dallas" theme.
This was awesome! TV themes were something else in the 80s. They don’t make them like that anymore.
Dallas theme tune is immense, I love the horn counterpoints when the trumpets do their thing. You can hear it so clearly on here too.
Thanks for posting, Gershwin is one of my favourite pieces too
Thank-you, Mr. Potten, for the comment, since you used the word of whixh I was trying to think: I love the 'counterpoint', too.
Y'all know everything is huge in Texas!😂
Love you, Dallas!
I loved dallas,I was a young boy when it came out.i loved the theme music.j r was my hero.
What an encore! AMAZING! 5 star
Qualityyyyyyyyyyy......Dallas!!!!
I'm so proud to be from Big D. Even our orchestra kicks ass. 😊
What you USAn says? Go big or go home, eh?
3:56..LOVE THE DALLAS THEME!!!!!!
Never knew the Brits knew 'Dallas' like we did in KCMO!
Thanks 💞
Dallas (with the gigantic suburbs) is one of the top 5 most glorious cities in the world.
EXCELLENT Dallas theme !!!!!
For just the Dallas theme go to 3:48.
No
Gershwin is better.
How wonderful time it was. So jealous of them all
Best DALLAS theme on TH-cam.
22 yrs ago, as I was gearing up to go to college in the DFW area, I used to listen to this song
Now WHO wouldn't recognize the Dallas theme song ?! 😄👍
The best theme for the best show
I can see Jock and JR up in the balcony boxes giving a standing ovation. Well done. Well actually JR would be too busy on his Cell Phone swindling the deal of a lifetime to put Cliff Barnes on the ground. Lol my all time favorite show
3:56 for Dalas theme
The Dallas theme is brilliant. The crescendo at the start.
That is the way the Dallas theme should be played. I've heard several versions but none measure up to a full concert orchestra. The horn players clearly relish the audience's reaction to the music.
best theme ever changed from year to year but still the best
The theme arrangement for Dallas was re-recorded every year that the show ran, there's about fifteen different versions of the Dallas signature tune.

Magnificent ending for a night in the opera!
Wait for it…….until the iconic Dallas Theme comes along. And you shall see why it’s my favorite theme orchestral of the soap opera!😁❤️❤️❤️
3:56: I'm sure Jerry Immel will have enjoyed this version. Huge, dramatic, memorable...just like the show.
Bravo!!
This is for Larry, Ken, Barbara, and Jim.
Absolutely amazing!
Gänsehaut!
Happy 40th anniversary DALLAS.
The best thing ever!!!
I was there!!!!
The orchestra is wonderful. I am glad you got to enjoy it personally.
3:56 is when the Dallas theme song starts
Thanks! Nobody cares about the other song they played. Lol
Thank you.
You can just see everyone's face light up. You can't help but smile hearing something this sensual.
People who know music prefer the Gershwin.
THATS how it's done!
I love how the audience dressed up for such a grand occasion! lol
YESSS!
Yes!!!!😄😄
3:55 Dallas.
I really love this video.
Iv never seen Dallas but the them is something els
Thank you for posting!

This is why you ask any Texan which building in London is owned by the USA they answer not the embassy, but The Royal Albert Hall
Waving American Flags in England....wow, just wow!
that's when England absolutely loved America. Better times. Better days.
@@LB99971 we still do! 🇬🇧🇺🇸 x
Why the delayed reaction when the Dallas theme started. How did they not know that was the Dallas theme right from the start?
and there a number of people in the crowd who never watched it as it was before their time
jackdev73 If you listen closely at 4:05 you can hear people in the background acknowledging it, kind of like a sort of laughter. The cheering came after confirmation when french horns started playing.
I watched this faithfully with my grandma when I was little. I recognized it with away. Love this
I’m here for the Dallas theme, but is noone gonna mention the wonderful soloist on the gershwin song?
If you mean the clarinetist, the conductor clearly introduces him at the start of the piece ... namely, Steve Girko.
adam28xx that’s not what I mean:) everyone in the comment section is raving about the Dallas piece. But first on was very nice too :)
Legit theme!
i thought i saw bernie madoff in the balcony lower right hand screen, about a minute into the dallas theme. might be ruth there with him.

I found that CD… 😭
If WRR 101 is in here… they would be delighted!
It figures that most people here prefer the Dallas theme because the Gershwin is the superior piece.
Best part of this is that Bob Holness is playing drums. 3:58
Brad Wagner
Not that it matters - especially after that thunderous rendition of Dallas - but Mr. Litton bears quite the resemblance to Matthew Broderick, wouldn't you say?

Seemed like tempo was a bit fast also.
Pity one of the horns cracked in the opening theme
What the chord at 5:17 min?
What year was this? Please? I absolutely love this and watch it often ❤
It tells you the year in the heading under the video! ... If you want the precise date it was from a Proms concert given on Sunday 24th August 1997 in London's Royal Albert Hall.
Oh thanks I didn’t see that 😂
The fourth note in the Dallas Theme (following the open), was off. Not criticism, just an observation.
I noticed that too! Couldn't believe it! If this were opera, the audience would've been storming out the doors after throwing rotten fruits and veggies at the performers. Lol
The french horn is hard
I heard it too. But overall a very well performance.
True.
There's always a clunker now and then.
The city where JFK and JR were shot.
To be enjoyed with bourbon and branch.
WHERE ARE THE CELL PHONES?
It's 1997 look up the "Ericsson GF 788" for a contemporary cell phone.
SMS was still an exciting thing.

Why not follow a performance of a Russian composer with a couple by American composers! After all, it's an American orchestra.
Seemed like the French horns were off tune. Trumpets were spot on. All were just a little fast on the tempo.
Agreed. I still cried though. What an era I was lucky to have spent my youth. The piece still gives me chills.
The audience is horribly underdressed for a concert hall... can only be americans. Respectless behaviour to orchestra and conductor!
