I learnt to spin at art college 48 yrs ago! Using a spinning wheel. I have used a drop spindle several times, whenever I came across some fleece, and it has always been fairly successful. Recently I bought an E-spinner, and I can’t get the hang of it , and so far my drop spindle produces better results. I like drop spinning, as you can walk about while spinning, and it gets me off my bum. I sometimes do it while I’m walking our dog round a field, but it’s a bit difficult if he’s got a ball, and I have to stop mid spin to toss it for him, or else he barks. I haven’t tried spinning plottulopi. I think it might be rather tricky, as a roving (which is what I make before I spin it) is much thicker. I’m not sure if it would work. It might be worth trying it using a drop spindle costing £10 instead of buying another e-spinner? Maybe the one you’ve got is ok, and you’ve tried to spin something unspinnable….
i do have a drop spindle- just havent got around to working that out- seems even more unfathomable than an e spinner to me! ha but a few people have mentioned it so i will prob have a go.....
Another fab inspirational video , you’ve got me wanting to dive into all my wips . I’m so happy your enjoying using my hand painted and eco printed yarn for your shawl, it looks beautifull but then everything you make is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your makes n ideas😊
Ah its deffo not peace fleece, it's a local small batch of fibre. Casey from port fiber told me some stories about the shepherdess but I couldn't remember the name or anything as it was without a label :)
So enjoyed this video! You've been my favorite knitting podcaster for a while now but I've just remembered to subscribe. The embroidered jacket looks like it's going to be incredible :)
I think I would use Einband, but only as I love Lopi! I recently finished a second Lopi Felix and as soon as I had knitted an inch or so I crocheted round the neckband to prevent stretching out, as my first one had. So quick and easy, a bit like the knitting equivalent of a stay stitch. Interested to see what you think of the Tuku jersey, it's in my queue too but I have to admit I'm in a hiatus whilst waiting for the Isager archive patterns to appear in mid Feb. My Favourite Things - 'Norma' and Anna Ventzel - 'Karla Cape' in particular. Thanks for a lovely podcast, as usual.
My top plan for 2024 is also NO MORE LANGUISHING WIPs!!!!…I had 10 on January 1 and since then I have already finished a couple and frogged 2, so progress is being made! 🎉
Enjoyed this look through your WIPs and all! Adirondack, btw, is pronounced Add-uh-RON-dack, with each syllable being equal length but a large stress on the third syllable. And my opinion about your shawl is to keep it warm tones - it's such a nice watercolory slow shift in it that I think it would be distracting to add the cool tones (though they are absolutely lovely.)
I love hearing about your knitting plans! your podcast is one of my favorites, I love your style and cozy vibe =). My husband grew up near the Adirondacks (Add.Irr.On. Dacks =), its just an amazing place and the yarn you got from there inspired me to want to buy some as well . Happy, happy knitting, be well!
ahh thanks! the yarn is lovely- however my 4th skein has not be such ood quality- some of the spin is a bit dodgey and i have cut some small bits out. it was also badly spliced in places. if I lived over there i think i would have asked for a replacement as it was probably a one off bad skein- the other 3 were fine.
I loved hearing your plans. I was watching while knitting on a Tutu which I am loving. Sadly I am going to run short of yarn for mine (local to me Gotland) so I am trying to work out how to finish it!
just my opinion: since you only have a third to go on the shawl I would keep it in the pink tones. :-) And also for the Nutiden - make sure you use two strands or put it with a mohair or something because it is difficult to do projects with one strand. I did a sophie shawl in one strand. it's beautiful but it was a bit of a challenge. I should have used two strands.

thank you! it is a pleasure to use your yarn!
I live in Maine…that grey wool looks like it might be Peace Fleece. If so, it really blooms beautifully when you block it!

do you have plenty of the contrast? could you do more colourwork on the sleeve cuffs or bottom?

ah thanks and yes deffo going to use einband or mohair with it so that it lasts!
Check out Yana , of Finnish knitting stories about 3 episodes ago, her Polesden scarf, they way she does it is good for 24 Mimi skeins😊
oo thanks i will do
I highly suggest you learn on a spindle and then you’ll start to understand how spinning works. That’s how I did it and spinning really fun now.
@@Serenity-fu8xz I tried and hated it :) but have managed to get going on my wheel now!
Just my opinion…. I wouldn’t add an additional color way to your shawl. But then again, it’s not my shawl. Do what your heart tells you ❤
Ha I've ended up sticking to pinks !
