      Hi there. Just need to clarify: Is the deadline for the 16 voluntary contributions now 2025 or is it 31 July 2023 still? If latter, once you send completed form to HMRC before 31st July, does that mean you can definitely make the 16 contributions? Great video and nany thanks . 21:29

      The problem I seem to have is getting the gateway account set up as it requires a uk postcode. Do I use a relative? Or is there a work around? Great video 👍

    Main benefit to,claiming the uk pension is that it entitles your to free health care in Ireland once your receive your uk pension ( uk govt pays for it) . A video about this perk would be great

    Thanks very much for this video, it was very useful to me. I am English but I moved to Jersey in the Channel Islands, so I am in a similar situation to you, working away from the UK. Learning the difference between Class 2 and Class 3 NI and the big difference in the cost of each was very useful. And discovering the correct form to fill in was also very helpful. Well done!

    Class 2 and Class 3, has anyone changed their class? According to the revenue site I have 7 years of contributions but am in class 3, I left the UK and went to Australia in 95, returned to Ireland and worked here since 97. If I fill the form in applying for class 2 should this work or do I need to phone them and change it?

    Great video. Just have a couple of questions if you have a few minutes. Struggling to find the answers elsewhere.
    My Mam worked in the UK as a nurse for 4 years in the 1970's. She is 72 now.
    1)If she was to buy back 16 years would they be deemed as class 2 or class 3?
    2) Or...Is the maximum number of years she could buy back only be 10..i.e. up to when she turned 66? Thanks

    Thanks so much for this helpful video Malone Financial!
    I have a question: I worked in the UK for 5 years and I have 5 years (2010 to 2014) of full contributions on my NI record.
    I then left the UK and worked in the USA for 3 years. Then I returned to Ireland, took a 8 month career break before taking up full time employment.
    Am I eligible for Class 2? Or does the gap between leaving UK and taking up employment in ireland disqualify me? Thanks again.

    Hi Dan, Fantastic video. I have used the content of your video to apply for a UK pension which I never knew I would have been entitled to.. I worked in the UK for three years and paid 3 years full contributions. I logged onto the Gov.UK website, which shows the 3 years and the amount of NI I paid per year from 1989 to 1992. When I open the "Your UK NI Record" the summary on top says You have:
    6 years of full contributions
    6 years to contribute before 5 April 2029
    33 years when you did not contribute enough
    Why are they saying I have 6 years of full contributions when I only paid 3 years.
    And my other question is .
    I returned to Ireland in 1992 and have been working full-time since I came back.
    When I applied to pay Class 2 Contributions, thanks to your advice, they rejected my application because they said
    "I did not meet part of the regulation that requires me: to be gainfully employed or self-employed outside of the United Kingdom."
    I don't understand this?
    I am working for an Irish Semistate and I stated this in the application.#
    Do they mean I should be working for a UK Co outside the UK.
    Confusing.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Eamon

    • @malone_financial

      You can only purchase years as far back as 06'. If all of these years have already been filled on your national insurance record then your only option is to buy one qualifying year at a time.

    As a 50 year old with 12 years UK contributions. Paying for 10 years class 3 would cost approx £8000. Now I've listened to your pension advice and have heard you state that the pension system is broken. Therefore would this 8000 be better invested in the stock market over the next 20 years? You said there's no downsides but giving this cash away now for the chance of future income that if you died (like my parents) your contributions are worthless?
    If you invested you could use the money now and leave the investment to your next of kin. Another thing is I have friends that are retiring and because of their low income they've now moved into a housing association luxury apartment costing them 65eur per week all in. If they had UK pension entitlement it may have put them over the income threshold for this and they would be living in a hotel like others in their situation. All things to consider 🤷‍♂️

    • @malone_financial
      @malone_financial  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some good points here! I'd first start by trying to purchase at Class 2 if that's an option (80% cheaper). But as was shown in the video, the value of this deal is incredible. In the grand scheme of things, I don't think an £8,000 investment in the stock market (assuming broad based index funds) would be as sound of an investment as purchasing an inflation-protected (sort of), Government-guaranteed (sort of) income stream for life. It's personal preference of course (especially in the context of estate planning), but from a pure investment returns perspective, I think it's a no-brainer. Especially when you look at the comparison to annuities which I discussed in the video!

    How do I fill out the tricky questions on the form such as UK address, when do I expect to return to the UK, how long will I be staying abroad etc? Also, it seems that I'd only qualify for Class 3 contributions which in a million years I couldn't afford to pay. Is there any method to convince them to put me into Class 2? I wasn't working before I left the UK and I didn't work when I returned home. Do you organise applications on behalf of people and if so how much is the charge, please and thank you. It's a great video.

      There are no such conditions specified on the UK Gov website. My interpretation is that provided you're below State pension age and meet the conditions for Class 2 then you should qualify regardless of your current Irish employment status. • @malone_financial
      @malone_financial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well you'd only become eligible to make voluntary contributions once you've paid at least three years worth of National Insurance. So, under your strategy, you wouldn't be eligible to contribute until year 21. You'd only be able to go back a maximum of 6 years and then one year (each year) thereafter. So, depending on your starting age, this might not be the most efficient strategy!
