I appreciate this talk. How to engage someone of different assumptions is vital today. My experience as a conservative is that liberals get angry when you use logic.

I’m a great fan of Tim Keller but when it comes immigration - the issue isn’t immigration but illegal immigration. It’s matter of law: legal or illegal. Going to any country illegally is breaking the law, which biblically is a clear no no. Legal immigration is legal ... but most of the arguments is over illegal immigration which the left has renamed as undocumented workers to combine both legal and illegal immigration. And many think America is anti-immigration! America continues to be the largest taker of foreigners year in and year out. If you allow the alternative - open boarders, that’s very stupid. Healthcare, education, jobs for locals will he lost. America’s immigration policy is very clear and is similar to other nations: you’re welcome to come but you have to apply, and we expect you to meet certain conditions. If you come illegally and we catch you, you broke our law and we may send you back or lock you up. Just like locking up someone who DUI. As for caring for the poor: Jesus made it very clear that this responsibility lies at the hands of individuals like you and me (love your neighbour and he used example of Good Samaritan) and of course collectively for a community of believers or a church. It’s also for businesses through the principal of gleaning in OT. Whilst there’s no prohibition that the government shouldn’t care for the poor (their clear mandate is protect the innocent and punish the guilty - Rom 13), the expectation is for individuals and businesses - Not government. In our day, there’s a normal expectation for the government to help the poor, whilst individuals shirk this off. Felt he didn’t make this clear. And to be fair, many Christians and Christian organisation have and continue to help the poor both nationally and internationally. Bernie Sanders’ promises socialist programme of free healthcare and free education and higher taxes is socialism. God was very very clear about limited government and was against the notion of a government getting big when Israel asked for an earthly king. Enlarging the government is unnatural. Saunders plan for his big Government programme’s to be funded by taxing the very very rich is punishment and anti the nature of a God. God is a rewarder of hard work and industriousness. Not a punisher.
