Oh dude. He was in that New York songwriters company with like, Carole King and James Taylor and like 6 or 7 other people years before he got famous. He wrote for the Monkees.

A #1 hit for Neil Diamond in the Fall of October of 1970. It also hit #2 on the Adult Contemporary charts. It went to #1 in New Zealand, #2 in Australia, Belgium, and Ireland. It went to #3 in the United Kingdom, #6 in The Netherlands, and #7 in Germany. I saw Neil Diamond on May 15, 1987, at The Scope in Norfolk, VA.

That drummer's clicking hi-hat really gives the effect of a train hurtling down the track. I think this is Neil's best tune, but he stated in his book that, "I Am, I Said," was his most, "real" tune, and maybe his favorite that he had written. His interviews revealed him to be friendly, honest, articulate and humble. I loved him.

This was our drinking song in the 70s as American infantry soldiers in West Berlin. It wasn't wine we drank while thinking of home but the humor of it. We saw it as "A Store Bought Woman" and I still think fondle of it. American music at its best.

love this song to bits...it just has this tone and melody to it that evokes sadness and a longing for better times and then one realises the good times were in the past and one has to live life to the full every day. Work with a guy who has been given 4-6 weeks to live and beginning this week was downgraded to just maybe two weeks. The Big C yes! Sigh...life is so transitory.

Folks make snide comments sometimes about his lyrics not making sense to them, but remember ---He's like Elvis- People come and people go, but Elvis and Neil hang around. There has to be something to their works. Notice that 3 + million folks have listened to this.

THIS was the very first ND song I heard on my mom's radio. I don't know how it ended up on a channel that she wouldn't have been listening to but I've been a fan ever since then. Slowly I got all of his albums both before this one and all of them after this. I still consider him my first crush.

Ah I thought. Thats why we kept so much on hand.

for those who don't know, cracklin rose is a drink, neil wrote this song inspired from a native american town he saw where there were more guys than girls and the guys who were single would grab 'cracklin rose' on saturday nights. (cracklin' rosie you're a store bought woman)
story of my life, i used to be depressed that i never found a girl but im okay with it now and i have an angel girlfriend i will be with after i die. also looking around im happy to be single because too many guys i have seen fall for the illusion and now they lost all their money and some are even in jail.
but while im here, cracklin' rosie make me smile, girl if it lasts for an hour thats alright, cus we got all night....set the world right, find us a dream that don't ask no question

TheRoshan89 A British interviewer asked why he`d written a song that was disparaging to women. Neil Diamond smiled and said it`s the name of a wine. The BBC never do any research, even when it comes to the news. It`s now known as the British Brainwashing Corporation.
