This was the first time I heard Low and it blew my mind - the utterly gorgeous but haunting harmonies and immersive songs made me a fan overnight. I am devastated that Mimi Parker is no longer with us - her voice was utterly mesmerising and irreplaceable.
Same here. I'd been out for the evening in my hometown of Portsmouth UK. I was listening on headphones to my portable radio. The train I got on in the harbour station was delayed, and just sat there for ages whilst this stunning live set was broadcast - I was transfixed, and became an immediate fan.
Same. Although, did not get it at the time of the first listen. It was shared music from a beautiful friend that un-alived himself . Can’t thank him enough, but wish I was there to hold him up from the lasts gasps he took in his parents house. Rip my friend Dan, rip Mimi, rip Mr.peel
00:25 Sunflower 05:24 Dinosaur Act 09:53 I Remember 14:31 Don't Carry It All 19:20 John Prine (Emergency Tape starts 25:05, ends 27:10) 28:25 In Metal 32:43 Closer 39:55 Venus ("this is for the new president... Zak is our new president") 45:52 Immune (for like 2 seconds) 47:17 Over the Ocean
Love that Alan was playing the Fall's, My New House for a second or two as well. Weird how different his speaking voice was back then. He sounded like a 14 year old boy compared to now.
The transition into quiet from john Prine was wonderful but then the most hilarious juxtaposition of emergency tape plays. And because they were too quiet!? Fucking awesome.
2000-2003 was my Peace Corps / traveling time. Out of the loop for live shows. Of course Low had to put out their best album-- this is a great set list! Fortunately, my next show was Spaceland in 2004 -- a fantastic leap into their "rocking" pivot. But of course, they always had the ability to rock as hard as any band. Thanks for the memories, Mimi.
Never saw such a beautiful picture of the band in the early years. Could anybody tell me where it comes from ? Or who shot it ? Would really love to find a copy. Thank you !

Had this recorded on cassette for many, many years. Miss those days...
So sad to hear the passing of Mimi Parker, I listened to Low in the late 90s and loved them still to this day.
These people are beautiful
Rip John Peel 🕯

Great band what more can be said.
I found out recently that Mimi passed away. I am so saddened that her angelic voice is still and I pray that her family finds some peace. RIP
RIP. Mimi.

Love this version of Closer
Wow, great version of "Venus."
Listening I felt like someone had reached a hand into my chest.
Oh Mimi such a loss, It's like I knew you, like we had been great friends..............
The version of closer sounds way slower than the record it's absolute bliss.
It's a ride into some heavenly abyss bliss.
rest in peace, Mr. Peel
He brought so, so much music to our lives and now he is gone. So sad. He was a pioneer of his time. Brought so much to us.
:)

What happened at 24:00 25:00 ???
They played so quietly the emergency system kicked in as it thought there was dead air.
