  • About the aircraft:
    The Bf109 is one of the Luftwaffe's most famous World War II fighter aircraft. More than 33,000 Bf109's were built in many different versions. Both its climbing capability and acceleration in the dive were two of the Bf109s strong points. In production since the summer of 1942, the Bf109G series displayed some noticeable changes compared with the previous Bf109F version. The G-5/G-6 had a MK 151/20 mm cannon firing through the engine. Two MG 131 machine guns were installed above the engine. The belt-feed to the uprated armament necessitated aerodynamic modifications to the engine cowling's which gave the aircraft its characteristic bumps .
    The G-6 was used extensively on all fronts from March 1943 until the end of the war. Later production lots of the Bf109 G-6 were given fixed rear cab windows in a one-piece design which vastly improved visibility to the rear. During a further modification the tail was fitted with a rudder that was higher and had a larger area than previous models. With a total of 13000 units, the G-6 was the most widely produced of all Bf109's.

      +chs82ndab I know what you mean my friend, I am 57 and medically retired and now disabled. I now have lots of time for this wonderful hobby I have loved since I was 10. I am also learning about new products and how to use them, s well as techniques I never knew that are fantastic. I just bought my first airbrush a few months ago and trust me, great results and yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks : ) This channel and a couple of others like it are fantastic, I have learned so much. I got back into it two years ago at age 59. I had been building them off and on since I was 8 as well. Now I'm using an airbrush, acrylic paints, adding weathering, chipping, grease and oil stains, ...the whole bit. There is something challenging about getting the right look. Each kit has its flaws (mine ...not the manufacturer) but they are getting better and better each time.

    talking about compressors, i had one without tank and i was realy pissed off trying to do fine detail and it was "pulsing" so i did one tank myself, I went to a pet´s store and bought some aquarium hose and metal conections and valve, so I perforated 2 holes in a 2L soda cap, putted the hoses there, one in coming from the compressor and other out to the airbrush, it take some seconds for the compressor pressurize the bottle but then I can spray with no problems at all, I use the maximum output of 20 psi, don't go further or the improvised system may leek but it was the easyest and cheaper solution y could come along, cheers!

    Great job and great video, thank you. What airbrush supplies and method do you recommend? Method as in air compressor or air can.. Siphon or gravity feed.. Brands etc, I am new to the hobby.

  • @ScaleModelAircraft
    @ScaleModelAircraft  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    @B_M_F_710, You are welcome! I recommend gravity feed airbrush, that is my first choice, I also use the siphon feed AB with no problem at all. if You dont have the compressor right now and You are using air can (for example Revell Airbrush Power), gravity feed airbrush is way to go, becouse You can work with ultra low pressure, so the can will last much much longer. And that same Airbrush You will use when You buy compressor. Compressor with air-tank is best option, but You can find a good oil free piston compressor very cheap for start (Gamma/standard). For the brand part, I dont have favorite AB, I am using Sparmax SP-35 in this video build, It is a very good and very cheap airbrush. I also have Iwata, Revell, Richpen, I like them all. So I dont have favorite brand, it is a matter of choice... All the best! Dusan.

      ScaleModelAircraft Another technique I like to use is to take a stick of sprue, set the tip to melting with a flame, then blow it out and apply the melting blue to the part I want to hold awaay from my hand for painting or whatever. It holds it securely enough, but easily snaps off when want it to. And every modeler has a lot of waste sprue about!

    • @markwilliams974
      @markwilliams974 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a dab of modeling clay on the end of a stick, sprue, or Q-tip. Doesn't stain and holds the part well enough to paint it.

    • @ScaleModelAircraft
      @ScaleModelAircraft  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      With Revell color mix, also You can use white spirit but I prefer to use original thinner/color mix for Revell paints (enamel). All the best! Dusan.

    What spray gun do you use ? One question: How do you get the white stripes that accurate on the spinner ? Did you just taped it with masking tape ?

    • @ScaleModelAircraft
      @ScaleModelAircraft  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Decal for spinner stripe, but yes you can use strips of masking tape... easy and spray white/black. AB Sparmax SP-35. All the best! Dusan.

      ScaleModelAircraft Thanks a lot, always answering so fast. In what ratio do you use paint to thinner for your airbrush? Also what sanding paper do you use? 600? 480? I tend to scratch the model so i have to paint it multiple times

      For 1/48th scale use 800-1000 grade sand p. as a start, for 1/32 scale You can use 600 grit as a start... 1000, 1500....
      All the best! Dusan.
