  • Fujifilm video files and codecs explained. Emphasis on Fujifilm X-T4. Also explanation of Bitrate, Long GOP, and All-Intra for video shooting. Here's my best recommendations for common scenarios:
    1. Want best possible video and audio quality
    Use: 4K 400Mbps with MOV/H.265(HEVC) LPCM with ALL-I Compression
    2. Just posting stuff to social media like Facebook:
Use: FHD or 4K with MP4/H.264 AAC with Long GOP (however if shooting lots of motion, change substitute Long GOP with ALL-I instead.

I've been shooting stills on my Xt-3 for a couple of years. Last year we were locked down here in Spain, no exercise permitted, my photo work dried up instantly, and I had a lot of time on my hands..... so I switched it to video mode and started to learn. I found this channel fairly quickly and watched more or less everything. A year on.... I am now starting to get paid for shooting video, and it's 99% thanks to you. It's one of the best instructive TH-cam channels I have come across and I haven't taken the time to say thanks so far... so here it is. Thanks..... it doesn't seem enough really, but I really, really mean it. Keep doing what you do.

Nice, how are you getting paid to shoot video? I’m looking to do the same just curious

    • @oliverstuart

@@cbskater44 Fairly basic stuff to be honest, but mostly for small business social media. Everyone wants video these days. I bought a gimbal to go with the camera, downloaded DaVinci Resolve, which is free and excellent. I've been a pro stills photographer for 15 years and just started to offer a few free taster videos to my existing clients to see if they liked them, and they started hiring me. I'm sure an expert videographer would see all kinds of faults, but my clients seem to like them, and like the price and it really boosts their engagement on Instagram, which seems to be what it is all about these days.... and it's fun to learn something new.

    Chris - this is gold!
As a stills shooter the video options on my camera was a complete mystery, like trying to read a foreign language. And as a Fujifilm shooter for over 6 years I have never touched this functionality.
This episode is like the Rosetta Stone!
You are an extraordinary ambassador to Fujifilm and I hope they are remunerating you. You have global (& cross cultural) reach so from down here in Australia I thank you!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You - I have been looking for this valuable info FOREVER. No one on TH-cam ever gives this info. All they tell is how they THINK you should set your Fuji up for “good” video. I would guess most don’t understand what you have graciously provided. HALLELUJAH! Now I know what I am looking at in the Video Menu Mess. I’m used to the old days of picking up a camcorder, turning it on and pressing the record button. Stupid me, I thought, now I have a camera that will eliminate the camcorder. Until you come along I was totally lost. Thank You! Now I can start making good use of the other half of my T4.
You make every session so easy to understand. A tremendous breath of fresh air. That You! for not leaving the, how to, details out. And, you do it with a smile on your face. 👏

Chris, you just gain some additional respect from m for showing that Genesis CD. You have good taste for music, ALTHOUGH that particular album is among the least liked ones in their catalogue. I hop you are familiar with the rest of their material.
I am not into video much but I still enjoyed this. Thanks.

were you shooting this at super low FPS? Especially around 0:45 mark the video is super jerky/low fps feel. Great Long GOP explanation in the end, thanks! Exactly what I was looking for :)

Hi, thank you for this video which I've just seen now after purchasing the Fujifilm xs20. What a wealth of information you provide! I want to upload travel videos to TH-cam and would like to experiment with colour grading. I've read 10 bit is much better for this, however I have a pc and the 10 bit options are only available in MOV which is better suited to apple users. Can you give me any advice on this? Thanks again

Hi, I watched your video and got a lot of skills. I have a question, is there a significant different between 400mpbs and 200mbps on X-T3 use H.265 in All Intra mode?
