- In this episode, we wake up after flying into New Zealand and suffering with severe jet lag as we have never traveled this far across the world. We have one hour left of sunlight to explore the city center and see it with our own eyes for the first time.

You could say that! haha
Like most countries
I visited Auckland in February and I didn't see any chinese. Only locals and tourist. KiwiCdn
I think i might be the only Saudi watching this, but, New Zealand from what ive seen online seems like a beautiful country that I'd love to visit, some day, already been to Australia 😆, much love.
Good luck with your travel hopes🙏🏾🙏🏾 I hope you get the chance to visit NZ it is truly a beautiful country filled with very welcoming, kind and caring people…

Welcome to NZ! I love your enthusiasm and conversation. I hope you show more videos of your time spent here.
Check out the several videos we uploaded! 🙌
Been there a couple of times. Great video and was nice to see many of the same spots I also walked and visited that you did. Thanks for the memories.

Awesome video guys. Hope you enjoy your stay here.
thanks very much my friend means alot! were are you from in New Zealand?
I'm in Auckland too. It's a bigger city than many realize, but nothing like Sydney, LA or London.
@@shanedigby Awh lovely we’re in Tauranga now and love it over here at the moment!
@GlenAndMado good to hear. It's nice to get out of Auckland and see the "real" New Zealand.
7 hour flight to Antarctica from Christchurch in a C130 , 5 hours in a C17.
The British Isles are closer to the North Pole than New Zealand is to the South Pole - we are at the same latitude as Southern Europe/Spain
Geographic position doesn't guarantee identical weather. And I am not aware of anywhere in NZ that can provide a match for the best Spanish weather. But I'll argue with the man that Irish weather is like NZ, other than they are both moderate climates. And I've been to Kerry so lets not compare rainfall!
@@johnmadden2421Irish weather is fine, it’s not bad at all but fierce mild
just how I like my curry bro, fierce mild 👍@@LeMerch
@@johnmadden2421the sunniest part of NZ is the east coast of the North Island and top of the South Island.
thats correct, the most important factor is actually the direction of the weather systems, the presence of ocean or land nearby. of course not comparing 60 degrees latitude to 20 haha@@johnmadden2421
Welcome to NZ. I live in the Waikato since 2009 and before that 4 years in Dunedin. I found that different parts of NZ has different types of cold or hot. I found in Dunedin hot but not as humid as the Waikato can get, so the hot down south I could handle better. While the winter in the North Island feels more damp, I experienced winter down south a dryer cold. I have lived most of my life as a north Islander and found the South Island very beautiful.
If you find yourself in New Plymouth from now till January, they have the festivals of lights at Pukekura Park I recommend it, I try and go every year when I visit my family.
north island closest spot too moon and sun on planet and becuase off this the most dampest island/ area/ spot on the planet earth.
Hi Guys
I am in my late 70's and have lived in Auckland my whole life but have visited many other countries.
What I am enjoying most is that you are giving us an insight into many places that we just pass through on our way to somewhere else. Your unfailing enthusiasm is a delight. I look forward to following the rest of your journey and am yet to watch your other countries experiences which I am sure will be just as delightful.
Cheers and good luck.
you should definitely check out all our new content as this was one of the first videos we made in new zealand and we made another 40videos after this haha :)
Welcome to New Zealand.
Come visit Waiheke island. Not cheap to get here but it's beautiful.
Jump on the boat where you were at the wharf
were in Taranga now! the weather doesn't look pleasant right now for the next week. were in for 10months or so. were definitely going to explore the islands eventually :) We were thinking we should try to jump on a boat and be part of the crew and travel long distance to one of the islands.

Hey , it's indeed winter in Auckland now, got a few months to get our head around when we arrived a couple of years ago from India. And we now call Auckland home, it has been a great journey so far.
Haha yeah we can see that but we’re currently in Tauranga right now which isn’t to bad just a lot of rain! 🌧️ hope your having a great life in New Zealand 🙂
I was there as a student ages ago, in 1994. Brilliant place. Hope you also enjoy the exposure to the game they play in heaven, brother. Welcome to rugby union country.
Welcome to NZ. Hi from Christchurch. Enjoy your time here. . Hope you get down here to the South Island. It is a little colder overall but we have pretty good weather and Sunny days here over winter as well.
How are you Susan! thanks for the special greetings :) Were currently in Tauranga right now for the next 3 weeks staying on a farm and its amazing so far :) We will be travelling down the south during the summer months. we will try to see the whole island :)
Hi Auntie Susan 🇬🇭💕
Welcome to NZ,sorry about the prices of food and Fuel, there are cheaper choices, like small butchers and fruit and vege shops, don't forget to try a steak and cheese pie from a bakery. Best of luck to you both.
Hey Andy hope your having a good day pal :) The fuel prices are a little cheaper then Ireland actually! We paid 1.29euro a liter the other day and its about 1.55 euro in Ireland and more expensive in Germany. but yeah the vegetables are very expensive though! haha. all the best my friend.
@GlenAndMado Good to hear mate, have a great day.
@@Andy_M986bro, we as kiwis don’t have to apologise for anything.

Life is quite hard at the moment in NZ, kiwis moving to Aussie for better life, 7:33 the home loan rate was 6.29% now May 2024 is 7.14% (1 year) and before covid was around 2-3% so yeah it is hard
I am from South Auckland. The cheapest buffet you'd find around here (for dinner) is $36. I'm shocked you found a buffet in the city area for just $25 but even more surprised to hear that you think that's expensive compared to Europe. This says a lot about our country's economy!
It's because during COVID labour party gave our billions of dollars causing everything to double in price
Came to NZ in 2003 and j can say that things are changing for the worse when it comes to poverty 😭 hope the national government restores a good economy

Welcome❤
I hope you see alot of the untouched by man areas of NZ because it is far different from the pollution and chaos of the big cities
Anyone else remember the top of Queen St being called China Town. It definitely used to look and feel like China Town back in the day, and it was a great spot to shop, eat and meet new people. Not so much these days though. Auckland City used to hum, and it just feels empty nowadays. Which is weird because the population of Auckland was a lot less back then. I guess with the concentrated spread of urbanisation, people no longer have a need to travel City Bound for things they couldn't normally find in their local neighbourhoods. Thank you guys for your awesome views on Auckland. Always nice to hear what people from overseas think and feel, be it good or not so good :)
never knew that but its very unfortunate that you feel auckland has changed over the years :(
@@GlenAndMado oh yeah! it really change A LOT just not the same place anymore like how it use to be. is just a really really Boring spot now compare to back then😁 hope you guys are having a blast in NZ. God Bless✌
Look, like it or not, New Zealand is an Asia Pacific country, not part of Europe, and geographically it is closer to Asia than Europe, plus Asian/Chinese people arrived in NZ roughly around the same time as the European settlers did. If what you want to see in NZ is only the British/European cultures (cafe, pub, people of the same skin color and same look as you guys, etc) but nothing else, why bother to fly over here? Just stay in Europe then. But as you guys are now further down south, I guess you should have seen the more 'European' NZ that you want already.
While it's true that like 1 ship & a dozen miners from China came in the early days - the Asian population of Auckland went from less than 1% to now about 30% in a single generation. I don't think it's surprising that tourists would be surprised. You can't act like that's nothing...
Grew up in Grey Lynn/Westmere through the 70s and 80s. Great area and time to grow up.
Welcome to Auckland!! Sorry about the terrible prices for fuel nd stuff, but make sure to go see the harbour bridge, the shy tower, and if possible Rangitoto. Make sure to try pineapple lumps or a steak and cheese pie. As a proud Aucklander I welcome you to New Zealand. ❤❤
NZ is a dump
I left there 15 years ago and mates moving to AUS also. Shit hole. Sux because was good to grow up in
Stupid comment. Again, prices are high the world over..ugh
The street you were walking down. Top of queen street where all the asian restaurants were.... this is near Auckland university. Behind the restaurants there is a lot of university accommodation for international students and so the restaurants usually packed with international students. Bottom part of queen street is more for tourist
Welcome guys, kia ora , nz weather is nothing like irelands. You'll see in the nz summer is so humid and hot in the north of nz and dry and hot in the south.. enjoy our beautiful country
Kia-ora! hope your well! we definitely have learnt that now that weather is abit different here and more tropical haha.
Yup, nothing like Ireland
About the climate. I used to believe the climate was similar to Ireland and the UK. However, nine years out of ten NZ has a good summer. Most of the North Island also has mild winters, no snow and little frost. Queen St, is not the prettiest place in the CBD. But at the bottom of the hill, you have Britomart, Princes Wharf, The Viaduct and Wynyard Quarter. All exceptional. Ponsonby is also worth a visit for the bars and cuisine.
I don't know where pople in the UK get this notion from. Auckland is equivalent latitude to Malaga in southern spain. You can grow citrus, avocado, passionfruit and even bananas. NZ from north to south is equivalent distance as Denmark to the South of France. Huge mountains mean there is much more climate variation. Where i live in Hawkes Bay normally has 2500 hours of sunshine per year, which is nearly 1000 more than the sunniest place in the UK.
@@hudsonquay yes I agree. I think people need to know we are an oceanic-temperate climate, which means the oceans influence our weather - so changeable weather esp with El Nino or La Nina patterns changing things around, and pack a jacket no matter the season.
A walk from the top of Queen street (from Karangahape road) all the way to the end at the waterfront is a good start to visiting Auckland and the CBD. The Auckland CBD is very occupied by Asian cultures, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. Auckland doesn't squarely represent the rest of the country, once you've driven south of the city, you'll see a different country. You can go to Rotorua, Waitomo caves, Tauranga, the Coromandel. There was one clip of Tauranga which is another one of NZ's most beautiful cities.
Yes tauranga is a good start..on how to absoulotely destroy natural beauty for thousands of subdivisions and high Rises
Agree, you probably would of better of going to a Asian country. Auckland is a shite hole...pass thru
@@jonylawson73 Tauranga is a dump with state house suburbs like Gate Pa, Greeton, Merrivle etc, the City has only one small hub of bars and restaurants they call the Strand, which is basically one street with a couple of off streets you could walk down in 5min with 2 seedy night clubs, one of which Police gather in force at closing time, there's nothing there and the people are cliquey as, Auckland is 100 times better
As with any city in the world, you actually have to visit the outskirts to truly experience what that particular city is all about. City CBDs are business-orientated only!
Dying watching you walk on the right of the path when passing people 😛 NZ goes to the left.
Great video thanks!
if you are fair skinned you can burn in 10 minutes in the NZ summer. it's our proximity to the sun, the ozone hole, and purity of air, and we can have very high UV levels - so I wouldn't compare Ireland to NZ weather-wise. We have changeable weather, so maybe that's what you mean, and very high rainfall on the West Coast of the SI in particular but we have decent summers here, but be prepared for changeable weather.
Memorable days, visited in 2011
Hi. I live around the corner. I don't go down the hill to Queen Street anymore I just view it through videos like this. The shine has long worn off. I have met many immigrants and visitors. It seems so depressing to me because you see it all new in this video and it is so old to me. I haven't even gone down to see the new things they've built. Anyway, I'd rather feel optimistic but find this a fun outlet for such a heavy feeling. Time to try something new. I've been in the same flat for 10 years and 7 months.
I lived there before. It so boring. Nothing to do and things are so expensive. The weather is crazy too. Always rain.
I live in London but would love to explore NZ :)

Countdown is cheaper than New World
Too cold and too expensive. And it only gets colder as you travel south. The landscape is incredible, but I'll stick to the tropics ;)
The shops in Upper Queen St are the longest continuous shop frontage in NZ.
It's been nominally designated as "Chinatown" however Asians prefer either Dominion Rd or Sommerville. The slope on Upper Queen St is quite chronic which is, (I suspect) what it got designated as a Chinatown... basically no-one else could make a go of it.
i have literally wlaked where you guys have been, i loved the yoyoso
If you're still in NZ, try a restaurant called Kazuya on Symonds St. If they give permission for videoing, it'll make for a great video xx
We could give it a bash! but unfortunately were in welly at the moment :(
Not many people know this but when the British first came to NZ they nicknamed the Maori people the "Irish of the Pacific", comparing them with the same personalities and traits. Also they first named the North Island "New Ulster" and the South Island "New Munster" I have seen old copies of maps of NZ labelled like this. The name of "New Zealand" of course comes from the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman who first named NZ after a small coastal town of his home country in the Netherlands. Aotearoa is the original native Maori name for NZ meaning "Land of the long white cloud". Kia Ora.
thats insane! we didn't know that actually but we definitely knew the irish got on very well with the Maoris! thanks for the information
Hope that I could live here one day!!!
Just think: The day all starts in New Zealand: According to the "Time Zone ". We in South Africa are a 11 hours behind. Crazy to think. Regards 🇿🇦.
exact same as Ireland 11 hours behind too haha
some say it was 9/12 here in z-land on 9/11 , and possible it first too Rapture when planet goes Billy- upp.
NZ is not a European country. We are Asian-Pacific. So Asian restaurants are not overwhelming! Surprise surprise! We are not similar climate to Ireland. Ireland is smothered in snow in winter and is NOT subtropical! I spent 3 weeks in Ireland and had a blast but had to live on a Guiness a day as food was too expensive but the stout is very nutritious so I kept in good health. I went everywhere including Castletownbeere.
Yup nz likes there aisian and eastern foods. Our summers have been weird lately tbh. And if u want the real NZ, best to go rural👍
Yup we’ve done a lot of rural! We are currently in wellington and heading to the South Island soon 😀
Goodness, you should have gone into the ferry building. There is a pleasant bar & restaurant in the ferry building looking out over the harbour & the sunset. Some of us have been in NZ since the late 1830s, btw. My Māori relatives have been there for over a 1000 years. Up in Auckland you probably won't meet many "old New Zealand" Kiwis. If you have a year then try & spend a good portion of it away from Auckland so that you can experience real New Zealand.
Being a kiwi all my life I don’t really see that many large TH-camrs going to New Zealand hope you enjoyed your selfs
awh its treated us great so far my friend :)
Auckland's food scene is incredible thanks to Asian migration and it's only getting better every few months. The asian community have been part of NZ since the days of the gold rush. Sadly they faced a lot of discrimination throughout their time in NZ
Super wonderful in Auckland City 1 day I am coming
Please do a vlog in Wellington our capital city❤ its a great little city with lots of fun things to do, and something that is guaranteed in Wellington is cafes with yummy but pricey food and good coffee i would recommend going along the Harbour walk and in the evening go to Mount Victoria to catch amazing sunset ☺️ some friendly advice, scrap your rain proof jacket and bring a wind proof one 😳 it gets very windy some days but not every day! I had to laugh at Glen's, The weather is just like Ireland, quote. My Irish friend used to say that although he has never been here. I lived in Cork City in Ireland for 3 years. And, although the scenery is a lot like NZ and it does rain a lot, I think the weather patterns are very different. He also showed me the mountains there. Um, we would call those hills. I was wondering if our mountains really were spectacular, but coming home after a few years, yes, they are.

only the beginning!
Have any New Zealander have time to ask the government ? why there are no regulations on private market for pricing the basic resources necessary for middle class or for poor people? what is making all the food product companies to increase prices? WHILE YOU THINK it’s all genuine , companies are busy milking extra profits on cost of your pockets . Private companies are just holding the stock for a month or so to increase the demand , and re launching the product with new price tag every time , when the other company see the price increase for the same product , they also play the game of demand and supply. And here we are thinking why everything has doubled or tripled in price in few months 😅, good luck asking for a pay rise coz u can’t afford a loaf of bread for $10. Rich people who can make difference , it’s too cheap for them to talk about this price hike, coz they can afford it 😅, it’s there status at stake if they care about base prices , colonised system fails 😅
What rubbish are you waffling about. The producers aren’t stocking product and they aren’t the ones making the profit. Like everywhere in the world it is the supermarkets that are making the profit.
I feel your pain , its okay 👍
I think tourists have such a idealised and unrealistic view of what NZ should be remembered our big cities are just like any other big city in the world!! Over crowded!! We have a massive Irish and Scottish community.
In fact go to any pub in NZ and you're unlucky if you don't hear an Irish accent.
The north island of New Zealand is similar to Ireland, the south island is much more mountainous
Also it rains..... A lot.
I'm from Ireland and can tell you now it has changed drastically for the worse the last few years, globalisation/economy/lockdowns have sucked the soul from it.
The CBD isn’t that pretty although the viaduct isn’t too bad, get out of the city and see the beaches etc, catch a ferry to Devonport and maybe waiheke.
Nice. Thanks for sharing. Whats the rents like for a couples room?
Welcome to NZ. Auckland city is a bit of a dump. Well the queen street side anyway. Never used to be like this. Go over to some North Shore beaches in summer. They are stunning and get passed up by many travelers

what I find interesting that they have to do the "tourist research" already in the country of interest. When I go and I visited NZ twice I do all the research beforehand, I google walk streets that I will reside in, I check busses, trains, all the transport, check all the tours, and places to visit, Bay of Islands, Piha beach, in NI, all the botanical gardens, all open gardens oh the list goes on and YES.. I want to see the New Plymouth festivals before I die. Love my over the ditch place and people. 🥰😍 from hot Western Australia

Air quality is definitely really good! but when it comes to food quality that's a challenging topic to talk about as it all really depends on what country you're comparing to In Europe 😉 Food is so good in Europe!

Auckland was once a great place, but it has been sold to immigration and has lost much of its soul. There are areas with no kiwis, high crime, run down infrastructure etc. Most of the new people are economic migrants and don't have much intention to integrate
we have heard this many times! its very unfortunate actually.
The cbd is dying a little daily. I lived on Fanshawe st in the late 90’s and it was such a vibe. Now Queen St feels like parts of it, have been completely abandoned. The soul is still there, but much of the heart is broken.

Unfortunately these days you could mistake Auckland for China or India. Their numbers have absolutely exploded in the city over the past 20 years.
I've been to China & India I doubt you could mistake Auckland for either of them. If you are talking about it being diverse and multicultural I welcome it. That is the first thing that surprised me just how Asian Auckland felt, I first visited Auckland in 1967 as a Ten-pound pom with my parents as an 11-year-old they took me back to England when was 17. I first went back to NZ on holiday in 1993 with my wife it had changed a bit but was fairly recognisable as the country I had left, over the next 15 years we came back numerous times and each time we saw more and more Asian people, every dairy and bakers shop seemed to be run by them every other restaurant was Korean or Japanese property prices started rising very fast as they apparently bought up property as an investment, sometimes not even living in the apartments, this pushed up prices and it became impossible for young NZers to afford to buy a home, especially in Auckland. I personally think they have allowed far too much Asian immigration and NZ is fast losing its European and South Pacific feel, whether you think that's a good thing I don't know but it no longer feels like the country of my childhood. May I ask why you went there in the Winter? I know it's fairly mild compared to Northern Europe but you paid a lot of money and didn't really see the country at its best. And Auckland has a climate a lot milder than Ireland you can grow bananas paw paws and oranges there as well as passion fruit, but I doubt they would grow in Ireland.
You sound like a typical racist pom. I had the privilege of growing up in Auckland in the 90s, and yes, that’s when they opened up to migrants from Asia. However, there’s been a lot of immigrants from Europe (UK, Eastern Europe), as well South Africa, too. I think the city’s a true melting pot. It’s a multicultural city, and it’s a bit tiring to hear from old white people whinging about missing the “good old days of bicultural NZ”.
Honestly, there wasn’t much going on in NZ until we had more migrants come in; the only ethnic cuisine we had were Chinese takeaways and now the food scene in Auckland is truly amazing thanks to the influx of international influences.
You pakeha didn’t like the Polynesians either, and now you’re trying to divide up the nation again.
Similar housing problem in Auustralia wit to much overseas investment particulary chinese pushing up housing prices along with to much immagration!😡
