So it's similar to Half-swording a longsword in HEMA? In your research, did you find that the previous chinese longsword users preferred thrusts more commonly than cuts? (Putting more emphasis on its length than its cutting edge) Also did you find that they applied their same polearm fighting style and attitudes to longswords? (In General Yu's sword treatise, he seems to use and grip the staff the same way as he grips a sword: right over left in a relatively narrow side stance). I noticed that many common weapon styles adopt the power hand at the end, left over right, similar to using a pool/snooker cue and switching to the right over left grip when holding a longsword. In your opinion, why and when do you think it became common to treat the staff and longsword as different weapons while General Yu seemed to treat them as the same weapon?
Its not half sword actually. You are not gripping on a sharp blade. There is a 30cm length of bronze fittings AFTER the guard, which you can grip on, thus expanding your grip.
@@chineselongsword3998 Hendrick Santo research said the sword was to brake/against the katana(from the Japanese pirate). In his research the sword was a foot longer from the katana and the sword need to withdraw from side with body mechanic.

The saber handles in the manual you show are much shorter than the handle for the wooden sword you use. Why is that?
I assume its an drawing issue. Because in the text, the words described the length of the Long Saber as almost as tall as a man.
