This is my dad's favorite song rip to my dad I miss him
He just had sooooo much cool!:)
Joe Turner had so many hits in the 50s…..favorites with kids in Detroit! Was he recording on Atlantic? I just remember lots of Atlantic 45s.
Man! This is Music History........These guys were the real deal......RIP
Good Times !!!!
Great video! Of course Joe's arrangement of this song was so much better than the white remake by Bill Haley & The Comets. I can't even listen to them sign this song. It's gotta be Joe Turner! Either this or the studio version. Both are great!
Go Joe!
Jumping Blues
Thank goodness for TH-cam how else would I have ever found this...thanks for posting
The Beginning these kids today have missed SO MUCH. This is where it came from. I was about 12-13 then
Big Joe rules !!!!! Thanks for posting this fine video of what most consider his best-known composition. One of the finest examples of rock and roll being born from the blues. YES !!!!!!!
this is pure rock n roll born out of the blues, god's music
The brother on the bass knew what the hell he was doing. Damn.
very well played on that bass
Gettin' BUSY....!!
yes indeedy lol
It's called a walking bass.
and then some...
Big Joe Turner, that's one cool guy
The roots of rock!
I have been listening to Big Joe Turner almost every day for a couple of years.. listening to the arrangements.. the horns playing one line behind the soloist.. and the bass.. its just the classic early early rock back ups.. with jazz players, and Joe. The 48-55 transition from R&B / jazz of the day into Rock and modern R&B is some rich territory... the horns went away, replace by voices and guitars.. but the stuff was all laid down here.
I'm just figuring out this is the man who invented rock and roll...one of his early songs is spoken almost like rap...incredible.
His voice is just incredible!
TRhe quality of the clip is WOW.
Hey Joe, big Joe Turner,we are thinkin of you today
Chuck Berry did a killer rendition of this classic.
Great stuff. I love the persistence of the drummers ride symbal in this particular recording.
How can anyone give this a thumbs down? Beats me!
The surviving members and family of Bill Haley and the Comets. That's who.
OK, I get that. If I offended anyone, sorry, but Joe Turner's the best!
You misunderstood me. I was agreeing with you.
LOL! OK! But I wouldn't be surprised if some people like Bill Haley better maybe just because they haven't heard this!
g bridgman I heard both and they have their pros and cons overall I like the tempo bill Haley more and the sax a bit more but this one is really good also. I don't think neither bill Haley or joe Turner wrote this song
Music to play in your ' 56 caddy ragtop. ..love it
I know people say this isn't Rock but it is. Rock doesn't require an electric guitar.
Big Joe.... respect!
damn I was hoping for the original raunchy version. I guess since it was in a movie it had to be cleaned up. too bad!
I am 70ish and have loved him for a long time
4 Years before I was born! What a sound by Big Joe Turner......Up until now I'd never heard of him but heard the song.
Everytime there's an earthquake, I crank up this tune!!
Note the change in the verses for the live performance....
the guy that presented big joe is actually pretty big himself
I was 4 years old when this was recorded. It was sad to me how delta blues sorta usurped show blues over time. Show Bluse was so much more jazzy and improvisational. IMHO
where it all began ! what a great rendition of this song ! the lyrics he comes up with are just brilliant
His voice is top tier too!
This is my kind of music! Brilliant!
BIG JOE TURNER!!!
It's quite a jazzy arrangement of an r&b classic
much better than Bill Hailey version...
The greatest! Why have only 886 people seen this?
joe goodrich 150,000 now
Paul William's Orchestra introducing Big Joe Turner Boss Of the blues! Words changed a tad for video purposes. lol
One of the Dirtiest songs I have ever heard.. I love it.
My favorite version of Shake, Rattle and Roll!
A voice like silk!
Even Big Joe Turner changed the words, cleaning up the lyrics....just like Bill Haley did.
Best music on the planet.
"Let 'em Rock awhile"
Fantastic, thanks so much for posting!
Have some of the lyrics been altered to make it more acceptable to TV producers?Just like Hayley had to alter he words in his version!
Maximum R & B
Lol, Now That was Fantastic, I've got to hear more of Big Jo Turner's music,
It's crazy what this song is about
Huh... at 2:02 they must have cut in film of another song or something, because the bass player is doing something completely different than what we hear!
This too is a candidate for "The first rock & roll record" title.
to be honest I like this version more than the bill haley .... in that time all was real voice and music!!!!!!
sclavito bill haley was an English Putz. Big Joe Wrote This !
That's for you mom and dad, you where the greatest generation, forever rock and roll!
kansas city...Jay MACshan...the devil's music
So cool!!
nicky0016dd BIG JOE Rules!!!

I'm in History Of Rockin' Roll and this is one of the first songs we listened to, I like Big Joe Turner, Bill Haley is cool but Big Joe Turner is does way better at this song I Personaly Think.

Love this classic vid of the great Joe Turner! Does anyone know who the sax player is? Thanks!
+Allen Blasco....................... According to Nick Tosches in his book " Unsung Heros of Rock n Roll it's Sam "the Man" Taylor"
It may have been "Cleaned up " but its still very cool.......Bee Bop...
Barry Schlesinger I wonder what the Rebbe would say.
This is History!.....All these guys are so far ahead of thiier time.....the real deal.....
genius!
You Daddy!!
Ok
Yes Yes Yes!
which comes first, Presley version or J.T.?
Joe Turner
then there's also Bill Haley
Joe recorded it first.
Samuel Raymundo I think bill Haley recorded it first then joe Turner but they came out weeks apart on the radio then elvis came after
Joe Turner recorded this song first on 2/15/1954,haley"s cover came out on 8/ 1954.
Unfortunately they removed some of the wording that has completely destroyed this great song.
Killer mon killer
Big Joe.
Raymond Bates
..

25 dislikes???? RU kidding me?????????????
Found this song on accident. Trying to find old records to sample.
