    Thank you so so much!! I wish I found you before paying for a course that was in usd [super pricey converting cad to usd lol] I’ve finally discovered the correct terms for searching on TH-cam. Then I just add your channel name and see what populates. Again, I reeeeeally wish I found you sooner and didn’t spend almost $1000 I didn’t even have. I’ll stick to your channel until I’m ready to invest more again.

    Classic: Taller and darker VOWELS…drop jaw..leave more space between teeth
    Pop: Shorter and brighter vowels ..breathe into space and sing
    1) classical no microphone, pop uses microphone (more conversational and intimate)
    2) classical more vibrato, pop is sometimes straight tone
    3) more head blend in classical (fluty) vS chess blend
    Pop thicker tone speech like
    4) choice of vocal colours..every note must be a jewel
    Pop sometimes more edge, ugly, sassy (resonance)
    5) clean vocal fold closure in classical
    Sometimes breathy in pop song
    6) rifts and runs
    Classical has less, original melody
    Pops transpose,

    I've always had a particular ability for musical theatre, because there's often vibrato and range but also powerhouse moments. I can't sing pop for shit (the "spoken" sound and constant belting and usually limited range), and classical isn't intense enough for me.

    Finally I’ve found the right channel for me! 🥰 Thanks for this, the video was so great! I’m interested in both of classical and pop singing and I have always heard and ”known” there are so many relevant differences but I’ve never been able to get hold of it all. You were the first one that explained things clearly and thoroughly without overdoing it so that the tone of the video would get arrogant or boring. Loved it! ❤

    Great video, Victoria! Still a bit confused re vowel shape: different for Misty as for a bouncy Ellington? Seems like there'd be a mix?

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Darker, more sultry = vertical oval. Brighter, bouncy = more horizontal. There are always degrees of how dark and how bright you want and it often changes in a song. I don’t usually talk in the same expression for 4 minutes straight. 🙂

    I very much appreciate your continued emphasis, without criticisms, of the different way(s) of singing 'pop' and 'classical' genres. Your approach has given me several things to think about and listen for. I like that. To my mind (IMHO) the only classical singers I think sort of got the idea (at least sometimes) were: Tito Schipa; Richard Tauber; Mario Lanza, Giuseppe di Stefano; Luigi Alva, Fritz Wunderlich and Jonas Kaufmann in his album about the inter-war popular radio tenors. And Barbara Cook and Eileen Farrell! Excellent video. Oh...and John McCormack.

      Any hymn I would advise bel canto. Praise choruses have that unique sound about them that’s kind of pop, kind of quasi musical theatre.

    So I am confused and a bit dejected at the moment.
    I sing in the classical style as a Baritone.
    But years ago I had a teacher that told me that one should NEVER sing with vibrato and I tried as I might to get rid of it but it always crept in which caused my teacher to drop me which made me feel like I was a poor singer.
    Then recently, joined a group that I enjoyed being a part of but ended up being told to shut up because my classical tone disrupted their pop style and then again was eventually asked to leave.
    Most small choirs don't have many, if any Baritones and the pianist/teachers tell me to either sing Bass or Tenor, which is tricky as I eventually default back to Baritone and then either the tenors or bass follow me and it goes horribly wrong for the group of which I am the reason why.
    So I end up doing solo's but then that's too much work for the teacher/pianist and again get asked to leave and do my own thing.
    I love to sing, and want to continue but if every group finds fault or says I am too much work, should I just give up?

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  ปีที่แล้ว

      Choral singing presents lots of challenges. Since you enjoy your solo singing, why not find a pianist or guitarist that you can sing with OR work on your own voice with accompaniment tracks until you find someone? Don't give up! No way!

    • @NoodlenutStudios
      @NoodlenutStudios ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Victoria-Victorious Thank you.
      I will definitely look into backing arrangements as I look for an accompanist.
      Is there a particular site that might have music like that and would I be able to change the key to suit my vocal range?

    Its important that you know that when you sing classical style is safer for your voice and you can sing longer even when you get older, whereas the ones who sing pop usually don't last longer than 20 years because there is more strain on the larynx and vocal chords. So try to learn classical singing first then step into pop if you like it.
