Great lesson. Don't forget in British English 'smart' means intelligent or well-dressed. I once said to an American, 'you look smart today,' (to mean well-dressed) and they got really offended because they thought that I said that they looked they intelligent (implying that normally they looked dumb).
Hi sir! My name is Shahid and am from India. Almost all everything I know I have learnt by watching your videos. Sir, Please make a video on using "the other day" , "to+ing" , "no less/more than" and " not /no later than" . Please
I am working in call center and we are supporting our customers. I know I'm good at neutral speech but when it comes to slang. Literally hard to understand. I heard that my customer praised me as cream of crop. Suddenly I thought what went wrong, I did best for them. Why they scold me like this, I brought my google translator to check that my language. It didn't work. I dumbed. When usually searched about the slangs of the american. I got your video. You made my day today. Thanked the customer now
Thank you for this awesome lesson, Adam. And you know, what is very interesting it is how different languages and different cultures use similar words and phrases in similar situations. We have a very similar phrase in Ukrainian to your "to have a loose screw", but we say "to miss a rivet/clincher". Really, if smb has a loose screw (or a rivet?), he/she can lose it and then miss it. And we also say, "I wasn't born yesterday." It means just the same as in English. Learning languages is really cool. Thanks again.
There are many lessons on diffenets expressions, idioms, etc., but not so many of them give you a whole pattern. Now, I can go ahead and create my own expression - that really excites me! Thank you, Adam, everything is well-explained, it's a brilliant lesson, I think.
Slang expressions are very important and useful for me ,l can know what they are talking, especially good chat with my foreign friends ,really thanks for your lesson!
Thanks a lot Adam!! Excellent explanation! yes, I think it takes some time and practice to use them properly, but it's so good to know the meaning and they are really fun! thanks for all your videos!!
Thnku sir for this knowledge ,and I also did the quiz and got 8/1o. I've a question that does the expression "cream of the crop" is only used for a person not for things e.g. His compositions are cream of the crop. And what does meant by "curdled mucus".
Me Adam you are amazing I am from Iraq and have been worked with a lot of companies as an interpreter I appreciated your efforts but please please can you slow down when talk By the way I would like you make more lessons about the military and the politicians thanks again sir
Hi ,May I ask something? "Good managers know that their job is to look out for their employees' interests, as well as those of the company. " In this sentence "those" refers to "company's interests" . But how?How can I learn deeply about this structure? Please give me some advice!
OMG ! I don't know why but I R-E-A-L-L-Y love this video ! I don't know why I did not watch it before since I got it, I am really blown away with the so-useful-to-me expressions it contains ! Thank you very much Adam, with your videos learning english is such a delight
Hi Adam I'm a teacher of English I think my English is fluent .but my English is British and I want you to teach me the basics of American accent .because I want to create a channel on the You Tube. By the way you're awesome.
Thanks so much for the video. I use them all frequently. I do have a question - how about "Has a IQ of room temperature?" Is it an insulting sentence to indicate that a person is kind of stupid especially facing a Superior? Thanks in advance.
Josh G Depends whether we are talking about degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit. The former is obviously more insulting than the latter. On the other hand, if we are talking about Kelvins it might actually come out as a compliment rather than an insult.
Instead of saying someone is stupid or wired, you can say, they are different. Like me a lot of times I am not all there, and I am not like most people.
Hello teacher Adam, you are the best example of combination of book smarts and street smarts. You are the brightest star in the sky. You are the cream of the crop👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Thank you very much, Adam Watching your videos has become my routine❤️
Hello.thank for your videos but i wish you can make a very good video about academic writing paragraphe ( expository) and how to write coordinate sentence.. I have final exams next week and i still struggle to get good grades on this subject ( composition) my level is really bad at writing.you are my last hope please save me or i wont get the chance to graduate this year.thank you alote in advance
Just watch the movies you want to watch. Try to memorize a couple of expressions or grammar structures from each one. If you watch the ones you enjoy you will have more fun and it won't feel as much like studying. Good luck!
Hello, Adam. Can I ask you something? I work as a teacher as well and once I used the expression Smarty pants in the conversation with a native speaker and he said that there is no such expression but I have read it in a book. So who is right? Because I often call my students like that and it is kind of stupid if such expression doesn't even exist . Thanks for you answer)
Adam, I can understand & write & read English. But whenever I want to practice speaking in English I don't get speaking partner, who can currect my words while speaking.. how can I find him?
Both are correct. It depends on where you are in the process. If it's in the oven you are baking a cake. In all other steps you are making a cake. Hope that helps.
