Americans, swans, narrowboats, on Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal May 2024

Here is some more footage of my Brompton bike-ride along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.
I was reviewing the bike after having it for 12 months, but also did some footage of the canal itself - so I got to make two videos for the price of one!
During this video, I met a number of very friendly American tourists, who’d formed up into a convoy of hired boats, - and it turned out they were all from the same family!
I also videoed the Dragonfly Day-Trip boat, as it ‘winded’ (turned) just after Brynich aqueduct, (skilled job that!), and, to top it off, I encountered a very friendly family of swans… Mum, Dad and 5 little ones - so wonderful to see!
Oh, and there were one or two other narrowboats too!

Thanks DC! I was very lucky that day to see those swans with their little ones and also meet the Americans, all on the same ride. Yes, the weather too was a big bonus. 😁

Hi Jeff, The Americans definitely picked a good choice for their cruising holiday and you for your cycle ride. It must be a little frustrating for you seeing those narrowboats knowing that Gladys is not quite ready yet, but hopefully her maiden voyage is not too far away now. The family of swans were beautiful, I was hoping the baby swans formed a circle so I could have come up with a cygnet ring reference 😵💫Great video Jeff, lovely canal and surroundings and nice to hear the birds chirping away, fingers crossed for a good extended summer. I enjoyed the the little comedy snippets too. The carved man was miserable as always, I don't know why you "WOOD" even give him the time of day. Apologies for the poor joke there. Yes, the Americans chose a great place to visit and they certainly seemed to be enjoying it! I am frustrated, you're right! Just hanging on to the thought that it wont be much longer now 🤞. I'm away much of this next week, so have already filmed something for the 8th and it includes a short update on Gladys - things certainly look encouraging - but keep those fingers firmly crossed please!
Those cygnets were so cute - nice joke about the cygnet ring by the way - very clever! 😁
Glad you liked the funny bits... I'm never sure whether to do them / include them, as I know that not everyone will 'get' my humour... but I know that you do Dave, and appreciate that!
Just between you and me Dave (don't tell anyone else), I am thinking of starting a second TH-cam channel, nothing to do with narrowboats or bikes, - where I can have a bit of fun and say some of the things I don't feel able to on the GladysTN channel - it'd be mostly silly humour. I'll let you know if I go ahead, of course. 👍

Great video, Jeff (hope I got the right spelling), nice to see you on the bike again. Nothing like the sound of gravel under the tyres. I think wooden man secretly subscribed last week and he’s just not telling you 🤫
Thanks MT (Sorry, I don't know what else to call you ☹️) - and yes, that is how I spell it, well done! It irritates me a little when people use the Geoff version - or even worse still, call me Jeffrey (Only my late auntie was allowed to call me that and get away with it!).
Yes, the sound of crunching gravel is quite therapeutic 👍 and much nicer than the squelch of watery mud.
I'm hoping to go out to film a bike-ride video this coming week, although have already filmed next Saturdays, which is very much on a canal😉. That wooden man didn't want to talk at all - I had to threaten him with a sandpaper-massage in order to get anything out of him... but you may be right, he could be a closet TH-cam fan! 😁

The forecast for this week is a bit patchy - so I haven't decided where to go yet, but am hoping to take the Brompton. Enjoy the Bank Holiday!
Lovely start to the weekend Jeff, the red boat made me think of Gladys & how close you are to starting canal life aboard.
The people living in those houses along the canal probably don't realise how lucky they are to have it on their doorstep.

Thanks Annie - very glad you liked it! Yes, the red boat was a bit darker and a little bit longer than Gladys, but I could easily imagine it being her! I'm sure you're right about the people living near the canal - very lucky they are!

Well they got the weather wrong didn't they, I've been outside mostly for days rebuilding my cat's outside den.
Wow, that sounds like you have a major project there Annie! We had some torrential rain a few times yesterday - its been better today, but I still think it feels more like autumn than late spring ☹️
@@Gladysthenarrowboat It's not far from finished now, if it dries up later today it'll be done. My muscles have had a good workout & my back's a bit sore.
Very strangely we had a terrific storm yesterday briefly but my washing wasn't touched by it, left it out, hung the rest out & all dry as a bone by mid afternoon. Someone up there was looking after me for a change!

Sounds like you've been working hard over the holiday Annie! Yes, these occasional storms are weird - sometimes I can see the rain is falling half a mile away and yet we don't get a single drop - just like you! Maybe you have a guardian angel? 🙂
