Sunday, Funday - Class 11 Race Car Testing

We just bought 8 (and a half) Beetles from a person who actually turned out to be a local customer here in Phoenix, Kyle Zirkus of ZMTL Racing. He had bought them because he was building a Class 11 (Full Bodied VW Beetle, NOT a Baja Bug) Race Car and needed some cars to build from. We have some experience with Class 11 racing so when Kyle invited us to go out testing with him, we jumped at that chance to get "back in the saddle again". So early last Sunday morning, Sam got up and met Kyle and his race team at Geiser Loop, just south of Lake Pleasant, here in Northern Phoenix. Working on and riding around in Kyle's freshly rebuilt (he had a rough race a few weeks back, rolling the car 1 and a half times during practice) brought back a lot of good memories. Love the herbie paintjob that’s just perfect given herbie was for all intents and purposes I believe a possessed class 11 bug for every race he was in until herbie fully loaded where he got some major upgrades before turning into a nascar race car

I never even thought of Herbie as an 11 car, but yeah! He was! A stock Beetle, with a roll cage… he was essentially an 11 car!

@@Sam_MebaneI don’t even think he had a roll cage until herbie fully loaded when he was modified to race in trip’s revenge races and for when he became a nascar race car in the original movies I think he just had an engine tuneup and a new racing paint job and that was it
