I would have liked to see in the photo on the stair the light pointed on the right side of the model’s face because that is where the shadow was and just have the sunlight illuminate the left side. But anyway this has now got me a bit more interested in getting this light to use with an iPhone.
The price reduction over here in the UK piqued my interest, but I think it would only be of use for iPhone photography. The B10 is the size of a 70-200 and easy enough to fit in a camera bag.
Thank you for the comparison pictures. Seen whole videos with Iphone11 without the comparison and then it actually does not say much about if Profoto C1 plus is worth it. I'd love to see a comparison video of NO extra light, profoto, lumecube etc. And also, with comparison photos next to each other for a bit longer. Prefer a controlled environment, which means the exact same position (camera on a tripod, model standing the same).
I'm rather surprised at how much light the C1 produces. But with a caveat. I have to say this light is specially made for camera phone enthusiasts, which is almost irony. If one was genuinely interested in taking better lit photos with a cell phone camera, $600 is a bit steep. And if one has more of interest in photography, I can see them picking up a cheap used DSLR and something like a Godox AD200/Evolv200. It's not as compact as the C1 but it's still extremely portable. And at 200ws and at $240.00 USD, as of prior to 30 June 2020, it's a good deal. I think Profoto is trying to cover all the potential photography market, which is a good thing (I guess). But in this instance, I think the price definitely works against their advantage.
I think Profoto is tapping into a very niche market for sure - but this like is on sale here at adorama rn adorama.rfvk.net/V1no6 makes it easier to swallow, esp for the nonprofessional photog Audience I believe it’s intended for.
I couldn't justify the $599 price when it came out and it finally went down to $299 and I purchased it. It is definitely a niche product and my purpose is to enhance my daily photos that I take on my iPhone.
Thanks Vanessa, I could have done with this light last year for my brother’s wedding on a beach in Paphos, Cyprus, at 3pm in about the harshest sunlight I could have been presented with, and searing heat. My problem was that I was only able to travel light, but could easily have done it with this light.
I don’t know about this fighting the harsh sun, but if you found a bit of shade it would have helped for sure considering you couldn’t bring anything else :)
This does look like a good option for travel. Not to pricey considering the cost and size of a speedlight and a remote trigger transmitter and receiver, it looks like a nice option to pack for a vacation or camping. I try to pack the entire studio on a carry on. Doesn't look like it would take up much space in the carry on. Can the transmitter trigger more than one flash? Are built in batteries removable and replaceable if you wanted extra charged batteries? I saw the website said this is good for 2000 full power flashes or 30 minutes continuous light. So probably not going to use up battery power unless using continuously.
@@VanessaJoy sorry edited my reply, added questions a just realized I was looking at specs for Profoto C1. Not the Plus. The C1 Plus is 2000 full power shots and 40 minutes continuous full power and does TTL. Cool.
Wow I’m quite impressed on what that light could possibly do. Thanks for sharing as well as including not quite an ideal situation for a light that small for your last image.
Cool little flash. Question: Do you use an in camera custom white balance or do you use color temperature and what kelvin do you use for outdoor shoots with flash fill? Lastly, for indoor studio shoots; custom in camera white balance or Kelvin and what color temperature? Mahalo
I do dial it in manually via the kelvin setting. I always balance for skin tone so since this flash is 5600k, I set my kelvin to slight warmer (5900k usually) since I like a slightly warmer look
It’s nice! Definitely a good range and even though it’s an f4 using it outdoors so no problem and you can still blur a background fine at 105 with enough distance between the subject and background.
@@VanessaJoy i've really been loving the Sigma 24-105 F4 and have gotten some pretty good results from it even though its an F4 and everyone seems to think that anything that's above 2.8 can't be used for portraits. I absolutely love the range it gives you, even though you sacrifice F-stops for it.
Just discovered your channel. Thank you for all the great information. Could you tell me which camera bag you’re using in this video? Thank you and I would also love to know where you get all the energy to create such great content and have a successful career in photography. Impressive.
Great video and insightful. I don't find the C1 to be a useful value. It required an assistant to hold the light and the assistant had to hold the light so close to the subject which confirms the light does not have enough power output for my needs. As other people have commented, for the money I would use an external flash and not have to stand in the model's personal space..
Totally agree for us professional portrait photos - but I’m dying to see a travel or iphoneographer use this with a selfie stick to self hold the light!
You can always find a way to put it on a stand with a some type of grip it's not really that hard to figure out a mod what do you mean not being in a model space. The whole point is communication otherwise you're not going to get good pictures
I think this appeals to a lot of iPhone photographers and bloggers on the move. I would only use something like this as an accent light when indoors or to take pics of my food 😂 but I definitely wouldn’t pay the price it retails at. I’m sure godox will come out with something similar and more affordable. Thx for the vid 👍
I use it to get an exposure and see the histogram. I don’t typically shoot that way but sometimes if I feel like it or if I’m using my 1dxiii and it has extra focusing functions that way
Hi ! New sub. What are you camera settings in a regular light. I am having a hard time getting that sparkle in eye without a flash. Thx. Also do you have a video on it ?0
You know what I think could have helped the video? A really super long disclaimer. 😉 Btw, do the bracelets double as hair ties? Ok, all kidding aside, that's a pretty nifty little light and the fact that you can use it with your phone is super cool.
$650 for the light and remote is a tough pill to swallow. I can see where the size and weight would come in handy though. I'm guessing the minds at Godox will unleash the power of "innovation" (cough cough copy) and sell their version for $100. Thanks for the video VJ!
Profoto stuff is good, but is too expensive in general for what you get. Godox is the better route that saves you money. However, if you are made of money, then go with Profoto. We know money is no issue, right Vanessa?
Lol yeah, I have a money tree out back. The thing is I tend to think of whole numbers, not one time purchase numbers. While godox may save you money in the beginning, you’ll likely end up purchasing those lights multiple times with the rate that they break or misfire. I purchase a Profoto and it pretty much never stops working unless I drop it. Actually I’ve even dropped a b1 off a 8’ cliff and it still worked. Plus it retains its value if I ever do go to sell. For me, I Profoto is a better whole number investment, not even mentioning that light quality, power, convenience and customer service that I happily pay more for. :)

600 bucks for this is not a deal. Might as well get a good light
What !! 600 us dollars 🤯
No I wouldn’t say it’s a good deal either, but fills that niche need I mentioned, when nothing else really does, for sure
Yep, the c1 version (vs plus) is a little less
Wait but i could find it in Germany on the profoto site and there it costs 150€ 🤷♂️

After 3:40 - Should you instead target a shadow part of the face for the fill?
that's always an option
It's probably good in a pinch but I would prefer a speedlight and a modifier. I'm so glad you got to include the dog in some images.

We need a more powerful A2 really, I'll just have to carry on with a B10 unless they can up the power somehow
Yeah I’d love just a smidge more power but then you’re at the b10
Is it powerful enough to bounce from the room ceiling?
Depends how dark the room is and how tall the ceiling...

Godox has seemingly abandoned having their flashes work with iPhone. The app now only works with older single camera iPhones.

How you liking the RF glass
Obsessed with the rf 28-70. Review coming out on that soon
This lite is very handy i tjink I could use one of those
Handy for sure
Terry Hatcher Just found out that the @Profoto light is almost $200 off for July 4th at @adorama here: adorama.rfvk.net/V1no6
May as well buy a Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT for $499, put it on the camera as a fill, apart from many other ways to use it.
Sure if you’re a regular photog. But that won’t work with a phone. And if you’re backpacking and counting every ounce of weight...
@@VanessaJoy Yes of course, I was simply responding to what I saw in the video which was a regular camera.

I love Profoto but this is A expensive and b poor at best. Many camera stores in the uk are trying to offload these at half price. Not for me.
Adorama has it half price rn, so the price atm is good for what it is, but the audience is definitely not professional photogs
This is why photography isn’t very efficient because of the flash. You need another person to do something that is so nothing but yet so important
Yes flash definitely takes more time, thought and finagling but it’s worth it when you need it :)
This shit is 300 fucking dollars btw
The gel..... 50 bucks btw LOL
Waste of money...u buy and then u don't use it.
Maybe for portrait or wedding photogs, but I think this would be a staple for travel photogs
