Monstera deliciosa Plant Fruit - How to Harvest the Fruit, Ripen It and What it Tastes Like

- Yes, that Monstera deliciosa growing in your kitchen could in fact produce edible fruit! That said, plants grown exclusively indoors as a houseplant likely will never fruit, but those grown outside year round will fruit quite freely throughout the year. In this video I show you what a Monstera deliciosa flower looks like and then what the fruit looks like after the flower has finished. I then demonstrate how to easily pick them and how to get them to ripen.
Once the fruit is ripening, there are a few things that should be noted, in particular the capacity for the fruit to cause tingling sensations in your mouth. As my harvested Monstera fruit becomes ripe, I eat the fruit and let you know my thoughts on its texture and taste! #monsteradeliciosa #monstera #rarefruits

Very enlightening, Devin. That was amazing. My neighbour gave me a monstera four years ago as I had shoveled her sidewalk during the winter months . . . not that I expect it
to grow fruit by any means. Good tips on how to harvest and when not to eat it . . . almost like the puffer fish of the plant world.
Hahaha I like that analogy
Devin, I enjoyed your livestream today on QVC. Wish I knew it was on earlier.
Thank you. Have a great weekend.
Where do you normally receive notifications for information like that? I’m not always sure where the best place to let fellow gardeners know
@plantvibrations I just was looking on QVC homepage. Caught it without expectation.
Sometimes, they advertise a livestream.
I will look for you on TH-cam.
Thanks again
I bet deliciosa fruit must be delicious ! 😀
It should be!
BRAVE MAN DEVIN
😍😍😍
Wow i never knew they could produce fruit!
It’s pretty fun right?!
Loool "they call it the fruit salad fruit! Smalls so good!"
"Actually it's edible but not great" 😂😂
Hahaha I was unimpressed! Give me a mango everyday
I happen to find one today in Australia that was dropping scales while still on the plant luckily no bugs got to it yet it tasted like super sweet pineapple, banana and slight mango taste not sure if the climate made a difference but found it really tasty and strong in taste
That could have definitely played a role!
We eat the part you left on the plate. The squares that fall off. I’ve never seen anyone eat it like you did in real life and we grow them in our food forest.
Do you cook that part or eat it raw?
I know someone whose monstera has produced a fruit. It’s totally indoors in A Toronto highrise.
No way?!!
@@plantvibrations yep. @hakunalaplanta. Kevin is his name. You could reach out to let him know about the eating of the fruit. I think he plans on keeping it on the plant.
Never seen anyone look afraid to eat a fruit before. Lol
Lolol
Devin I live in cleveland, can I put my big monstera outside for the summer in not full sun?
Absolutely! Keep it mostly shaded!
Was worried about you. Still am.
lolol
Do you remember what the nursery you went to is called?
Exotic rare fruit nursery in vista ca
@@plantvibrations thanks so much!
Well that was a disappointment. I live in Central Florida where these grow outdoors everywhere. I think they are still worth growing true to their tropical foliage. I always wondered what they taste like.
Still worth trying to taste someday!!
That’s great Devin!!
Thank you for sharing this. I didn’t know anything about this.?
I waited for you to play died at the end 😂😂
Sorry !!!
Also I didn’t know they could be poisons 😮
Hahaha still alive!
