This song isn’t just a comeback. Its a love letter to 2nd gen kpop and what aging gracefully with love and humility and beauty looks like. I wish them nothing but continued success and if we are truly lucky, another future album

Been with SNSD since Gee. Definitely a 10/10 for me. They aren’t trying to be something they’re not. It’s 100% their type of music/sound/concept. So happy that they came back. It reminds of happier days listening to my OG K-pop groups before school 💕💕

8:35 Yup you nailed it PD. Each member had their own individual scenes showing what they were doing during the past 5 years of solo activity. From what I gathered:
Yoona: Sitting in an actors chair and doing a scene with a green screen monster representing her acting career
Taeyeon: Solo singer, holding her own concerts
Hyoyeon: Producing and DJing as DJ Hyo
Sunny: Hosting her own TV and Radio variety shows
Yuri: A model/brand spokesperson for tons of fashion lines
Tiffany: Always on a plane as pre-pandemic she was ALWAYS traveling everywhere, had 2 world tours on her own, etc
SooYoung: Always on the red carpet being a host, actor, or guest for various award shows and movies/tv dramas.
Seohyun: On stage doing musicals and performing in stage plays.

FOREVER1 is purely about CELEBRATION. It’s not like these days typical full of drop kpop songs but somehow remain as SNSD’s identity. I even reckon that’s what makes them last this long. The lyrics is meanigful to both girls and SONEs while giving a nostalgic feels. You can actually hear INTO THE NEW WORLD sampled in the bridge.

  • @beatricep103
    @beatricep103 ปีที่แล้ว +404

Forever1 for me falls into the category of songs like Abba's Dancing Queen, heavy on the nostalgia, yet at the same time it creates this love for life and desire to live your life to the fullest, that it feel almost magical ✨

  • @blue7284
    @blue7284 ปีที่แล้ว +559

I never followed the group, I just know "into the new world" and even not knowing them, is one of my favorite songs from... K-pop in general. And still, somehow this song still feels so nostalgic that makes me want to cry and start to follow them from debut and get to know the members, watch their performances and variety shows with them.
Forever one made me miss what I never lived, and regret a bit for not knowing them before. (That summarized a lot about how I feel regarding my life in general 😅 nostalgia and regrets. Lol)
Is a beautiful song, the MV is good too, but specially the song, is really my type of emotional heart-warming K-pop title track.

The thing is, if you do decide to go down this rabbit hole with them, you’ll find that nostalgia is not something they make you feel just because the era they came from is gone, it’s somehow a part of their DNA as a group. “Into the New World” and its b-side “Beginning” had that bittersweet taste even back when they came out. That girl next door, that group of best friends before adult life separated them… SNSD somehow always gave me a feeling like that.

I'm actually pretty new to K-Pop (got into it late 2018 through Blackpink) but SNSD became my favourite group after getting into them in 2020. They pretty much carried me through the pandemic and still are the biggest source of positive energy I gain in my free time. Something about their music, them as a group and the individual personalities of each member just really resonates with me.
I actually really regreted getting into them after they were active and really wished to experience at least one comeback so Forever 1 means a lot to me. I'm not a fan of 15 years like others but I still cried like a baby watching the MV and reading those lyrics.
The rest of the album is incredible as well and SNSD treating their fans these days so much despite all their busy individual schedules is kinda unreal. They go to variety shows, music shows, have their own reality show and even do a fan meeting concert. Everything because SNSD means just as much to them as to their fans. That's why they celebrate their 15th anniversary in such fashion. And I don't think any group will be able to do something like this anytime soon. Bringing together idols/actresses from 4 different agencies 5 years after the last group comeback and still be so relevant and active as they are now. It's only Girls' Generation for me :)

    Regarding the chroma key scene.
It's probably due to the effect they were going for with one member being in real time and the rest being in slow motion.
They shot the backdrop and members for the slowmo and then had a separate plate for the single member in realtime.
It would look great if they executed it better, mostly better keying and it does feel like the camera movement doesn't really match either.
    Just my thought.

Also the slow-motion cut has a slight different setting on its highlights part.. It's much lower than the normal speed cut. If you look at Seohyun's part her brightest part (shoulder) is higher than Tiffany's. compositing scenes like that should have 100% the same shadow and highlights.

The part when you talked about the lyric "We are forever" are exactly the thoughts I had but couldn't find the right words to form. On paper, the lyric is very cheesy but cute, but in the actual song, when it's sung by the girls, it holds so much to it. I especially absolutely loved that Taeyeon, as the leader of SNSD, sang that line first. I'm not a full time sone, but when she sang that line the first time, it hit hard in the best way possible. It's a reminder to the other seven girls and to sones worldwide that SNSD are still forever, even now, 15 years after debuting and they are going to be forever, another 15 years down the line. It's really emotional and really sweet.

That being said, when the comeback was announced I was of course interested so I've checked out the premiere for Forever 1 and ohhhhh boy... best song of the year! I can feel the nostalgia and the emotions in the song despite not being a fan of the group, the bridge gives me chills with the strings from Into the new world. I'm a sucker for emotional/sad bops, give me some edm beat and a feeling of nostalgia and i'm in heaven, same vibes that i get from Don't wanna cry, Thanks (Seventeen) and Good evening (Shinee) which are in my top 10 favorite kpop songs of all time. In conclusion, i'm in love, 10 out of 10.

SNSD is what made me fall in love with kpop. I entered in with The Boys and fell in love with them due to Baby Steps. I have to say I've watched this MV about 20 times, not because the video is the greatest thing ever but the references made. You're absolutely correct PD, to me the "street" set has to be referencing I Got a Boy. In Tiffany's solo shot one of the papers handed to her says "Holiday". The pool set to me is referencing 'Into The New World' in that they're wearing white a pure color demoting innocence, and they have little to no makeup. And then there is all their solo shots. You touched on it, how each one focuses on what they are as of now kind of most known for. Yuri and Seolhyun though they both act they are more known for their modeling. Sooyoung and Yoona, acting. Tayeon singing. Tiffany also singing but this sher flew away from Korea and she has to travel back and for a lot. Sunny being an MC and general star it's why she's in a limo going to a premier. Hyohyeon a DJ and they give her some turn tables in her shot. I'm trying to find any more references

I think they came back with the perfect piece. They really don't have anything to prove as they are legendary at this point, and this was a song for their fans more than anything. Forever 1 really shows how much improvement for the girls in their singing career... I think they are bold to finally let the other members like yoona, Yuri, hyoyeon, sunny and especially sooyoung (she won this era, this is her center moment) to singing the high note (sunny actually is one of the lead vocalist that SNSD have). This comeback means alot for me as a long-time SONE 😭 I grew up with them as my motivation, and they don't really think to win anything for this comeback because they only want to celebrating their anniversary with their fans.

I've pretty much grown up with SNSD since Gee era. I've stuck with them through all the highs and lows of their career. Like you said, the green screen thing was a little "Hmm..." moment, although tbh, I didn't notice it the first time I watched the MV because I was watching with a thick glaze of nostalgia while my eyes sweated. But in succeeding viewings, it was becoming a bit more obvious. It's defo not the girls' fault, but the team could have cleaned it up better before the MV was given the green light for release.
As for subtle references in the MV, a lot of Sones have noted the following:
    - The girls wearing marine outfits is a nod to their "Genie" MV
    - The Helipad bg is a nod to their iconic "Genie" performance on a helipad that gained the highest Music Show rating in views in history to date
    - The bg for the "poolside" set could be a nod to their "Party" MV
    - Their color blocked outfits could be a grown-up version of their iconic "Gee" outfits
    - The studio lot set could be a nod to their "Paparazzi" and/or "IGAB" sets
    - Each member's individual scenes were supposed to reflect their current careers (actor, singer, DJ, jet setting businesswoman, variety show queens, etc.)
    - Taeyeon holding the trophy with the girls by her side was a nod to the girls' winning their Daesang awards
    - The chroma key scene was a nod to their "The Boys" MV
    - That one scene with Yoona acting with a CGI monster behind her was a small nod to a commercial they did in their early days also with a CGI monster
Tbh, the subtle hints in this MV was like an extension of the scenes they weren't able to add back in their "Holiday" MV, but adding more of other non-MV related stuff in the mix. It was a very smart move to play with nostalgia that Sones can try to find easter eggs for. And Kenzie using the sample of "ITNW" on the bridge part was pure chef's kiss!💗

Hearing the itnw sample in the bridge of the song for the first time made me shiver, that same feeling when I first watched itnw ballad version first time without Sica... It was that emotional

While my top group is Dreamcatcher, and I credit them with being the group that won me to kpop, SNSD was the FIRST group I fell in love with. When I was branching out into new music, Girls’ Generation was the first group that I connected with. I remember just searching on Spotify and “Mr. Mr.” came on. I was hooked and soon they were my most played group.
This song nails the nostalgia and feels completely at home with all the other SNSD songs in a playlist. As much as I love this song, “Lucky Like That” (the second song on the album) is absolutely incredible. If “Forever 1” is a 10/10, which it is for me, “Lucky Like That” is a 12/10 or greater. I love this song, I love this whole comeback, and I can’t help but just be happy the came back again.

The choreo straight up sent me astral projecting back to my youth and holy cow it was wonderful. It definitely felt like the team understood the balance of nostalgia and a fresh sound to cheer us all on. Definitely feels like a love letter to all those who've shown them love, just as they said they wanted 💜

I got into k pop in 2019, and I had mostly only heard snsd’s title tracks up until now. However, I’m always seen snsd as absolute legends and follow many members solo endevours. Nevertheless, I found myself uncontrollably becoming teary eyed on first listen..the top line of the chorus and the way it keeps rising up, it felt so incredibly nostalgic and uplifting I couldn’t help but get emotional even on my 2nd and 3rd listen! All the girls look STUNNING and I couldn’t be happier to see them together again.
If I wasn’t a fan before, I certainly am now. I decided to go and listen through their past albums and omg I HAVE BEEN MISSING OUT! why did no one tell me?? Overall, an 11 /10 comeback!

So I wasn't super big on kpop in the past but I had heard a few SNSD songs (Gee, I Got a Boy, The Boys) while I was in high school/early college. I didn't get fully into kpop until late 2018 with Twice, Red Velvet, Mamamoo, etc. but somehow "Forever 1" still sounds so nostalgic and emotional to me. When I heard it for the first time, I literally thought this was an anthem for something (friendship? fandom? time moving forward and changing you for the better but remembering and cherishing those who have shaped the you now???). It definitely doesn't sound like anything coming out nowadays but I think it's music that will hold up even in another 10-15 years or more. It's a song that's easy to sing along to and remember the words, and it feels like lyrics that take hold inside of you. It feels like a reunion, a celebration, a looking back on things, but also a looking forward to more. It's also made me wanna go back and listen to all the past SNSD songs I've missed out on! (I'm kinda sad realizing now that they're around my age and I could've been growing up alongside them and their music, but it's never too late to be a fan now~)

Since I'm a fairly new Kpop fan, I've only checked out a few of their songs and can't call myself a true "fan" yet, but this song and comeback is way too good. That chorus is so catchy, and the whole message and vibe of the song honestly makes me want to cry each time I listen to it because it's such a heartwarming song about themselves, their fans, their 15 year anniversary, and even more. I'm definitely going to be checking out their other songs now because I've been missing out big time

For the part where you said it felt similar to an older MV, I think you were talking about I Got a Boy. It could also be Paparazzi. Both use a dark street background with lots of neon lights.
    Other possible references:
    - The sailor uniform outfits really remind me of Gee and Genie. The simple uniform outfits, the hairstyles, and the setting as well are all feel similar.
    - Another one was the scene where they are on the red carpet with the award. Likely referencing The Boys or Paparazzi (Both those videos had a lot of red/pink and black for the outfits as well) In the The Boys MV, they had falling rose petals instead of the glitter/confetti here. And the red carpet is similar to the petal-covered ground. The way that they did the slow motion jump is similar to the slow motion used in the The Boys MV as well as the Paparazzi MV.
    - The scene where Sunny is the car somewhat reminds me of Paparazzi and TTS’s Twinkle, though this might be a stretch.
    - The red curtains are in the music video definitely feel like it’s referencing the Paparazzi MV.
    - The stage they all are on in the beginning with the colorful clothing reminds me of Holiday Night. The colors remind me of Holiday, and the stage (not just the first scene but also all the members’ solo scenes on stage) reminds me of the one Sooyoung was on in the All Night MV.
There might be more I haven’t found but that’s all I’ve thought of at the moment.

I didn’t get into kpop until the pandemic started, and SNSD was the first group I really fell in love with. Even though I just got to know them, after watching all of their past performances and shows, it’s like I’ve always been with them! To me, this song was perfect because of the special meaning it holds. Even though this song wasn’t anything groundbreaking, it was definitely something only SNSD could’ve pulled off.

This song truly felt like a festival, a celebration, a present that these girls worked so hard to prepare for the fans. They honestly didn’t have to have this comeback, with the full album, MV, all the variety shows, FMs, and even music shows. (They’re also going to be at SMTown as well as have their own fan meeting!) As a SONE, this all felt so unreal. The way that they are willing to put in so much time and effort to match their schedules (being under different agencies) and do all this for the fans is amazing, and I have so much respect for them. #gg4eva💗

The MV, like you mention has some subtle references to previous MVs. The street set is reminiscent of Holiday (if you look closely, one of the billboards in that set is their Holiday Night poster). The scene with the white/blue outfits harken back to the sailor outfits for Genie and the set is reminiscent of Party. Then there's the Into the New World sample during the beginning of the bridge. The bridge itself reminds me of the slomo parts of The Boys. Also, I still believe the Seohyun scene with her popping from behind the curtains is a Gee callback to her and Hyo's scene. Lastly like you mentioned, I feel the block colored outfits are remiscient of Gee.
Anyways, as a longtime Sone, this was an absolute pleasure, feels very nostalgic, especially with this kind of sound given the current trends.
I recommend you check out the album too if you have time, lots of great bops!

I started listening to Kpop a little over a year ago. I've listened to SNSD's debut album and liked it, and I've listened to a lot of Taeyeon's solo stuff and I love that. I mostly know SNSD by reputation and Taeyeon's solo stuff. That being said, I think this song is amazing. It feels very emotional and nostalgic in the best way. It's one of my favorite releases of the year.

I'm a Sone since 2008 and they are still my fav group and Taeyeon is still my ultimate bias and fav artist since day one. This comeback is everything to me and so many. And they really delivered. The whole album is SO AMAZING. They stuck to their sound and I really appreciate that. 15 years in and it's only the beginning for them. There are a lot of references to their past works! First of all, not only the song is composed by Kenzie who composed their debut song ITNW but ITNW is sampled in the bridge in FOREVER 1. Then the alley scene looks like IGAB. The boat scene is summery like Party and the outfits are marine-inspired like Genie. The colorful outfits reminds me of Gee but also Hoot. There are also a lot of All Night/Holiday Night posters in the alley scene. And seeing each member doing their thing in the solo shots is like ITNW too. I'm so happy, thankful and grateful for this comeback. I'm proud of them and proud to be a Sone!

The stage that they are in the bridge is showing that they don’t need props, dancers or anything else… with their music, being themselves and voices they conquered the whole music industry. Also they used the introduction of Into the New World in the bridge. Thats sick! Omg loved it completely nostalgic and the celebration of 15 years… they are not trying to prove anything. They are the originals that opened the path for girl groups nowadays. 💗 forever1

I feel like there are a lot of really subtle references to old MV's. The sailor outfits in the boat like in Genie. The set similar to Paparazzi. The dance lineup in the bridge similar to IGAB. The slow motion in the bridge reminiscent of the Boys. Seohyun peeking out of the curtains after the bridge like in Gee. The ITNW instrumental in the bridge. There are probably others, but that is what I noticed.
