This is some great footage! Well done. Thanks for sharing. Sad to see the damage to that pier. Spent many summers at White Rock visiting my grandmother. Great place, hope they can fix the damage. Glad that 442 Squadron was there to do what they do best.
Which stupid people might that be? People go out onto the pier during winds storms all the time and nothing happens. This time, the storm made it unsafe while a person(s) had already walked almost to the end when something went wrong.
They didn't 'save' anyone. The guy was safe enough and a few hrs later could have been picked up by a small boat. The rest of the pier was not in danger any more. It was an overblown, unnecessary production, but at least it broke the boys' boredom and gave them a little real life training.
Great work capturing video coverage of this event! Thank you for sharing it. I am in awe of the bravery and skill used by the helicopter team in executing this rescue. Well done indeed!
Crazy i stay 10 minutes from the beach and saw this happening. Sad to see the pier get destroyed but it was going to happen someday as it was old. Hope to see a brand new safer, longer pier made and one that wont break easily to storms & boats. Anyways good catch n rescue but people need to learn how to storm watch safely..
But its all good now. New bridge have been constructed and its safe now. Hope this will never happen again....its so good to see this place calm and empty🥰
And we thought our infrastructure was solid. I've lived in White Rock since 1990, and this blows my mind. Maybe I wasn't clear on the strength of the WR Pier to begin with. But that's city hall's job to know, not mine. The last city hall, not this new one. The new guys seem pretty legit for old farts.
Just sit right back and you"ll hear a tale.....great footage Wade, if I may ask what camera did you use? So refreshing to see a steady shot and well composed!!

While I understand the sentiment in your comment, charging for search and rescue will cause more grief than its worth. Mr.Dumdum(as you put it) should as a sign of respect make a healthy donation to his local SAR or charitys.
I noticed that too. Was he taking video too and that’s why he didn’t grab the guy the first time? There’s another video from the photographer at the pier when it collapsed. He was there with other people. They all made it just minutes before. This the dude decide to stay. I do hope so he paid for his mistake. His indecision was also putting the rescue crew at risk with those high winds.

Man that is nuts. I live uptown White Rock and had no idea it was that bad down there.

This storm scared the hell outta me. My cat was outside during this and when i saw a tree come down i needed my cat inside. SAFE
I'm impressed with that chopper pilot. I wonder what the gas expense is, haha.

It's a miracle no-one was really hurt or killed, so unfortunate for the boat owners, we don't realize how crazy mother nature is

That copter, even tho it's prob.30yr old still viable ,with astronaut capable pilots Awsome to watch

Great work, but that old copter looks like it's ready for the bone yard!
The Ch-149 Cormorant has only been in service since like the late 90's or early 2000's though.
Absolutely the opposite: the CH-149 is one of the more newer helicopters in the RCAF: if any chopper needs replacing, it’s the CH-146’s.
The video is good, really good! The logo... Isn't it too small?
It might be to small
well it even says 'in your face'
SAR guys should send Mr. Dumdum on the pier a rescue bill. $200K should about cover it.
Yup 100%. My wife was their and saw how this guy got " STUCK " ... Total bs.
