I started playing bfn and really like it. The look is nice (gw2 is better), the new plants are fun, sprinting is something I never realized I needed, the story is super fun, and finally I find the new maps super fun (only because I played the gw2 maps to death). I do miss the big extravagant gnome puzzle to unlock torchwood and the goat but still pretty great game. RIP variants and old maps though.
Gw1 had the best maps and costumes imo but gw2 kinda downgraded a tiny bit on those little aspects but still managed to be the best out of the three (imo) now bfn, the style is just ugly, but the only good thing i have to say abt it are SOME of the costumes and new mechanics like sprinting
Yeah i mostly agree with this. GW2 Introduced some fun single player missions, and I loved playing gardens and graveyards. I had a bunch of fond memories. And when BFN was announced, I was hyped. I played the beta alot, and then when the main game came out, I played a few single player levels, then did one online match, then was just like “yeah this sucks”. Sad we got BFN and not GW3. Chompers animations for when he eats a zombie has downgraded when comparing GW to GW2. Like if you burrowed a zombie that was caught in the spike weed in GW. He would jump up and eat the zombie in a shark like motion. But in GW2 they no longer hang the zombies from the spike weeds and the animation isn't as fun looking as GW's burrowing animation. In bfn that whole concept was removed and all the weeds do is kinda damage the zombies while chomper just bites them.
GW1: When chomper burrows a zombie after snaring it with the weed it comes up out of the ground along with a jump as if it were a shark. GW2: Chomper simply eats the zombie after it's snared by the spike weed. No neat animation or nothing. Not to mention they removed the ability to chomp zombies from behind in BFN.
@@toadstool7432 Another thing is the burrow animations. In gw when chomper eats all star he swallows half of allstars body and traps him for an easy meal yet in bfn all star stands on the rim of chompers mouth yet rather than simply jump off and live chomper just clamps down and he somehow dies? In general gw burrow animations: OH LORD ITS GOT ME HELP! Bfn burrows: meh *jumps in*
@@KevinTheCats what multiplayer? The online matches are now just like Fortnite. More matches with bots than actually players. Yet GW1 & GW2 slams in multiplayer even their development is not longer supported.
@@zhenjelte well sort of like fortnite but not really fortnite has skill based matchmaking but bfn dont and still gives bots while fn gives bots only to bad players and bro some bots in bfn are wayy better than alot of people xd
I used to play the crap out of GW, it was the only shooter where I was actually competitive; and everything about the game just screamed awesomeness to me. Then when I played the beta for GW2, I was absolutely blown away; that same feeling carried over and multiplied a thousand fold. It’s just a shame that barely anyone plays the original game anymore and the player count fluctuates for the second game on ps4 (at least for me, the only game modes that are somewhat active is Turf Takeover, Team vanquish, and Mixed Mode.
I like all 3 games they were fun and had their special uniqueness to them. They still have flaws. Gw1: fun but modes and maps mostly towards plants than zombies, no hub lobby. Gw2: fun but getting rainbows stars and unlock torchwood and goat are so grindy and annoying to get. Bfn: still was fun for me but it was 50/50 for good and bad changes. On one hand we got quality of life like sprinting, new classes and all stars better dome shield. Then bad like less spawnable minons and turrets. If they ever decide to make another one like gw3 they should take the best parts of previous games and added it to them.
This video made me cry the nostalgia for me in these games are real. The pack opens the excitement of getting a new variant the Easter eggs the brilliant sound track and effects thank you.
My biggest complaint is how saturated the colors are in bfn. Look at spikeweed in gw than bfn, in gw it does a much better job at blending into the environment even in non dirt locations but in bfn it sticks out like a sore thumb due to how vibrant it is. I genuinely dont like the ultra cartoony direction of bfn. I know some will say pvz has always been cartoony and thats true but bfn feels like it overdoses on ultra cartoony to the point of many disliking it compared to gw's cartoony but less saturized artstyle and more detailed plants.
Personally I wouldn’t call the garden warfare art style cartoony. I’d call it more realistic, especially since the first game was trying to parody the call of duty games.
@@bestestbread It's not really realistic as there are plenty of detail in the environments that lean to a more cartoony look however it plays its setting fairly straight in gw1 in that its still a zombie apocalypse in a somewhat grounded looking world to our own with military hardware parralles like the cuke and z4, you can find the end is near signs, missing people posters, and how plants actually bleed animated blood (and sound like they're in a lot more pain compared to later games) compared to bfn going full looney tunes with cheese lava, no blood, and humans somehow still being in their homes with zombies even interacting with them at times. The early trailers did parody gritty war games but in the time gw1 released the era of ultra gritty, dark, and "realistic" military shooters were running out of steam as series like cod came out of the bo2 era and began a massive nosedive in quality afterward and gw1 used this to its benefit as there wasnt really anything like it on the market at the time.
Ngl i kinda like bfn art style because of how cartoony and stylizes it is... Yeah im kinda like that one person who likes cartoony stuff and not really a fan of realistic art style
I’m pretty sure that BFN is based off of the PvZ comics, hence the more cartoony style. I don’t mind it at all, even to the point of saying that BFN might be the best-looking PvZ shooter to date. If it had a bit more time in the oven to work out the details and completely nail the designs, that would make it a lot better and solidify my choice.
Looking back at these both games, I'm glad I grew up with GW and GW2, even though I've never played them but I always grew up watching other TH-camrs play it. But for BFN, It's okayish and there is some fun in it, I have it on my Switch and it's kinda fun, I think what the game was missing is that it needed more content. BFN had a lot of potential for it in 2020 to be able to improve itself but I guess it never happened due to the developing team leaving it.
As someone who is trying it himself after the other games, it's a really good game though most dont like it because of the changes and while I can agree, i think this is why they made it a new ip all together instead of garden warfare 3. Point is, you should give it a shot, its on sale right now as well (at least on switch)
@@PiffleNEO yeah, imo, bfn is a really good game. I like the sprinting, SOME of the mechanics, the designs of the characters well, i know some people hate bfn's designs because it looked a bit cartoonish, and tbh im fine with that (maybe because other pvz games beside the shooter ones look cartoonish), and the story mode is really good, according to some people, the story mode in this game is the best part, and i can see that. Sure, it doesn't have variants, but the devs gave us legendary upgrades. I know people hate the upgrade replacements, but im fine with it, it's better than nothing. I think if the devs still updating this game, maybe there will be multiple legendary upgrades on the same characters, for an example another legendary upgrade for kernel corn. It's so sad seeing this game gone, it has so many potential, at least the game didn't get banned or anything. I love this game
As a Chomper main I didnt like how they took away multiple seconds from his spikeweed ability on GW2, then again I thought this was miles better than how they took away his "assasination from behind" ability on BFN
@@petalsbloom8883 like the garden war far system worked so well why did they just throw all of that away like what foekoe said in his video "it's like they wanted to innovate for the reason to innovate that's a really bad reason to innovate"
Oh my Gosh! Battle for Neirboville looks like a next gen game! Just... the lighting, the effects... so incredible! It is such a fun and great game ( and cute ), please, PopCap, continue the development! There is so much potential!
Finally someone compliments BFN’s graphics! I honestly have no idea what avid haters are on when they say that it looks bad. I have legit heard people compare BFN to *mobile game* graphics, which is beyond extreme. I do have to admit that a few design changes to the characters (namely peashooter and rose) I don’t like as much as their GW2 counterparts, though.
@@TwilightChomperEnthusiast is not bad, but some desings do look awful. Take the skins as example to this game graphic potential, they look fire. As for continuing development, yeah, no, im more of the GW3 candidate, it was such an abrut leap, that came unexpected and awfully executed. At the point that balancing 22 characters was hard in contrast of 110 (i guess i have an issue with TOXIC BRAINZ). But for the rest in GW i had no issue. And if they ever make GW3 just add the varaints, the abbilities shouldn't have a excedently low cooldown. Seeing the wizard but no variants was the most dissapointing thing, which was a character i wished since GW2 came out. Oh and add skins back, even if would come as confusing for some variants, the game would have endless combinations. Campaings could return. And even more expanded. And as for balancing, just revert chomper to the GW1-2, and don't give mech eject a fucking atomic bomb
@@DarielChavezV. Variants shouldn’t have costumes. It would be wayyyy to confusing, especially for new players. If you use the correct customizations, you can completely conceal what variant you’re using, especially for the plants, so having the ability to do that further would be toxic. Abilities should have the low-cooldowns they got in BFN, and have them not recharge instantly upon respawning so it discourages suicide bombing. The BFN mech is balanced as it. Sprinting makes it so you can be a light year away from the mech by the time it explodes, and reverting them back to their GW2 form would be awful, considering how much they sucked in that game.
@@TwilightChomperEnthusiast mechs weren't bad, the idea is to be careful with how you play and move, maybe armour is good, but sprint in a power hourse tank doesn't feel right. And as for abbilites, revert them to their old style of GW1-2 but if they die, the cooldown resets. BFN created such a toxic playstyle where the first to unload them won. And that was frustraiting. Snapdragon was the most annoying one along Peashoter
@@DarielChavezV. The thing in GW2 is that entering a mech is throwing raw meat to a bunch of wolves. When teamed up against, there’s absolutely nothing a mech can do about it, and you can almost never eject fast enough, and that’s assuming that none of the enemies are carrying a stun ability, something that GW2 has too much of. Oh? A Pea Gatling sees your mech from across the map? You’re dead. Oh? A corn spots you? Have fun getting an instant husk hop. And it’s not like BFN was toxic in *that* aspect, because usually if you unload all of your abilities at once you lose the fight unless your opponent is really stupid. While Snap can be annoying, once you bait the Swoop Slam he’s a sitting duck. Peashooter isn’t that annoying in BFN, probably because I never see anyone playing as him. Plus, GW2 is just as guilty with ability spamming, namely with All-Star, Corn, Torchwood, Rose, and even Soldier and Imp. While I don’t exactly disagree with you, I just think that some parts of this are not comparable.
In my opinion I preferred GW1's UI, GW2's Multiplayer and BFN's artstyle(except rose). Citron's remake model in BFN was amazing honestly. Downside though is that they removed his sunglasses which I get it replacing it with a visor seems more futuristic but the shades is what made him iconic and looked better. BFN's strongest point still has to be the general direction of artstyle but the rest failed to reach expectation. Sprinting was cool but taking it out with the cost of ability is kinda weird. They should have looked at what Halo infinite done with the sprinting and walking issue because even though that game is ass initially it was pretty good.
One thing I will give BFN, is that the animations feel a lot more lively. Like how the Peashooter does a flip into his Gatling, and twirls his leaves when exiting the Gatling mode.
gw1:good concept could be executed better gw2:improves on gw1 in every aspect (apart from maps) bfn: removes everything people liked from the other games and the things they kept they made worse except story mode
what did they remove? i like the more stream line more just hop in and play i like the reduced options fo characters cause it was easier to pick my character and it seemed they were bringing more customisations for the character builds by creating those abilities and i loves the new characters they added i also think the story mode is lots of fun to explore and the more cartoony graphics are cool too but graphics aren’t all important i feel like if they were given time it would have become a top game in the franchise
This comment rubs off extreme “I’m gonna say what people want to hear for free likes.” I don’t think BFN deserves all the hate that it’s been getting. Posts like these are part of the reason why PopCap stopped updating the game. If you want to help fix it, actually say what you want to be changed instead of mindlessly hating on it. I still think that GW2 is the best, but saying that BFN removed everything good and magnified the bad is an extreme exaggeration.
@@TwilightChomperEnthusiast It is not. Chomper got absolutely ruined, same with most “cheesy” classes. Except cheese is good for this kind of game. Gameplay is more stale.
pvz gw and gw2 peashooter gatling pea ability: *takes helmet from his mouth and starts firing* bfn peashooter: *backflips and start firing* foot soldier: nice moves but *fires*.
Man, when put side by side like that, you really notice a lot more of the differences between the games. Even just between the first and second Garden Warfare games.
gw2 on top, bfn literally is more animated but gw2 has more realistic stuff and the variants are so cool with their different abilities. the only good thing about bfn is that it has running mechanics, and new characters, but the missions are so boring to do. I never actually played gw, but i do know that it only has 4 plants and 4 zombies. Gw2, i rlly like the graphics and missions u do, different variants or skins u can call them, cool different abilities u can unlock, and rlly cool game modes. i grew up playing gw2 as a kid in 2016 and i still play it this year. To me usually in my opinion, gw2's cosmetics for each character looks bad in my opinion but it does makes sense that if your a pro or not. It doesnt matter in my opinion tho. In gw2, my favorite variants is super brainz, chomper, foot soldier, imp, and peashooter
From my minimal knowledge of GW1 and 2, it seems like the characters are just meant to be more mobile or team-oriented in BfN than they were before. Sunflower, Cactus, and Rose look like big examples I don't know if it's even right to compare GW to BfN in a parallel way, because they look like they have different intentions. It's NOT a garden warfare game The style change hit some characters worse than others. Citron went from a futuristic cool guy to a laptop nerd. But for someone like Rose, I don't see how bad of a change it is. They both look INCREDIBLY derpy in their own ways
There’s only one thing I like more about garden warfare 1 than Gw2, and it’s that the plants were greener, I loved the lighter greens rather than the plainer ones. It’s definitely a stark contrast to how the sunflower and peashooter look in BFN, which are plastic like. I do however, like the cactus and chomper appearances as I personally think they suit the style more in BFN. When talking about the zombies, I think they had major upgrades into gw2, and think they look best in that game. I don’t like that in BFN they broke off to the more modern look for the zombies, but I can’t deny that I liked the Z mech better in BFN than I did in GW2, i again think it fits a bit better than the original. Everything else though, sorta gross
God it was so easy to do everything in neighborville I definitely think it’s a good starting game for younger people, unless they just skip right to gw 1 or 2 so they don’t suffer, garden warfare 2 is perfect and I thank garden warfare 1 for showing what works so 2 could be the best it could be
The first competitive game I played and the one that probably spent the most time was GW on PS3, and for me it's impossible to change such a beautiful game for the bfn, I mean, the animations and graphics are gorgeous but it doesn't look like the pvz characters
Hmm PVZ 1 Was simple, Casual in the PVZ style PVZ 2 Was about time, and did have better graphics And "PVZ 3 " Is cartoony, soo, think about All the GW's now
I like battle for neighborville because Because they have the funny meme class (TV head and wild flower) Finally i can play as a cannon fodder class and decimate the AI WITH IT
Really wish that they could have added more content to GW2 than having to make another game. For example, Clash Royale is a an old game and they still add new things to keep the game fresh.
For me it's gw 2 bcuz the skins give you special abilities while in bfn it just makes your character cool And my fav in gw 2 is the pvz heroes hats that bfn doesn't have
PvZ GW1 and 2 are always gonna be in my heart, BFN is alright but not what I expected. But overall GW 1 & 2 are my top two. I plan on coming back for fun.
We fr need a gw3 (we don't talk about bfn) and get all the good stuff from gw2 and 1 fr they need to think better then the last game they made but i think all pvz games are dead because there is no more updates and we did no hear anything from the creators for years now
Idk its like pvz gw 1 and gw 2 have perfectly normal fluid movement while bfn feels all floaty, jittery, and off, this applies to all moves that move you too, idk it just feels bad compared to moving in gw 2 and gw 1, still kinda liked it when it came out though, got 81 hours before i stopped playing.
I want a game with lots of variants like gw2 but the cute cartoony graphics of bfn, also movement in bfn was just faster it felt nice. sad it'll never happen
I rly don't get the argument that gw2 looks more realistic so it's better than bfn, realism doesn't automatically means better. In fact, I think bfn looks better. Because bfn's lighting, textures, particle effects all look way more polish than their counterpart. The animation also is way smoother and the characters look more lively.
The people who have the “realism = better” mindset usually just want to act more mature than they are by resenting cartoon artsyles thinking that they’re too “childish.” It’s not always true, for some people just have different tastes in graphics. I personally think that BFN has some of the best graphics in PvZ shooter history, mainly in the environments. The only design changes I dislike are Peashooter and Rose’s new designs. While GW2 may be my personal favourite, BFN comes pretty close.
This is still a debate for me, I love some elements in GW2 realism, the views, and elemental characters looks BEAUTIFUL you can't deny me that. I think GW1 nailed a hybrid of Both very well
@@TwilightChomperEnthusiast Not that. It is simply because human brain and perception immerse oneself better in a pseudo-realistic environment. For a movie or a game, immersion is key quite often. Having that big of emotional connection is very important. Even with anime, let’s say, certain genres tend to dominate the market, since they are the most “lifelike”.
Be honest, The 80% of the BFN failure was beacuse it wasn't GW3 Some people didn't even try it beacuse it wasn't GW3 I play BFN, and it's really cool, it's the same gameplay as GW & GW2, i don't know why fans hate it so much
I mean variants were a rlly good part in gw 1&2 but since they not in BFN i can understand why a lot of ppl hate this game but its really sad that the game died to soon :(
Garden warfare was a fun game, and GW2 just improved everything from the first game, adding a little more. GW3 would have probably been successful if they did the same thing but they changed a lot of the stuff that made the previous one fun. Namely for me, gambling. pop cap, please add more casinos to your games. They are the only thing that can let me feel a mothers warmth.
Huge downgrades when it comes to BFN. Details were wiped, characters were changed for no reason, some characters and their abilities just don’t feel the same such as peashooters bean. GW2 had better graphics in most cases, but I liked chompers grass thing better in GW. GW will forever be my fav since it was just beautifully made with a lot of passion and was like a first kiss for childhood. Had better menus, outfits, maps, and progression in my opinion. GW2 was also pretty fun, but BFN just doesn’t scratch that same itch I got when playing the other 2
GW1: Great iconic classic that was revolutionary to the mobile game concept. It was the first mobile game to go BIG on console and it was just so great. Great graphics and tons of fun online with the maps Gw2: everything we would have hoped. Graphics got better, WAY more to do off and online, way funner, one of the best games of all time tbh. BFN: An absolute disappointment with terrible cartoony graphics. It was so disappointing. We all wanted a GW3 which would get more realistic and more fun but naaaaaa
I play GW1 and BFN on my console and I enjoy both games not bad at all juss a lot of changes GW2 is real nice too gives a mixture of GW1 and BFN together
Garden Warfare 2 and Battle For Neighborville is one of my most favourite to play. But for Garden Warfare 1 sadly, that there is no players to play or play AI characters in the game
What did they do to the chopper my boy they got rid of the fun animation for the weed and now he now he can use range attacks and don’t get me started on the goop
i never noticed how worse the graphics got from GW2 idc though because GW2 will never lose its crown of being my childhood pvz favorite and cactus wasn't a chick
as someone who first played BfN i must say neither of these games look better in particular, GW2 has a great realistic art style and BfN has a great cartoonish style. That being said i think GW2 is better and BfN shouldve just ported most of the features over
I’ve read that the reason why variants didn’t make it to BFN is that with the new lighting engine and graphics, they would have to remodel every singe variant, something which they didn’t want to do. So instead they added the upgrade system, a feature that had a lot of potential, but fell short in execution resulting in variants just being overall better.
Well I see the reason for complain on BFN, but it’s based off it’s original cartoony game Plants vs Zombies. So in reality they are just sticking to their style. I think it’s a good game, with good design if you actually stop looking for the flaws in everything
I am sorry but there are simply too many flaws that saying to stop looking for flaws, although being a perfectly ok argument most of the time, simply does not work in this context and sounds more like “if they removed all the flaws, the game would be perfect.” The design part I can mostly agree on though. But art is subjective and thus.. something
Although I like GW2 the most, I have to give PopCap credit for having the guts to try something new for the franchise, even if it caused all of this controversy.
Also I have the same PVS games on my Xbox which is all 3 of them but I lost gw from a bug so I couldn't get it back then I lost my whole Xbox flies and it needs to be fixed which is really hard to do cuz I think u need to do some modding and idk how to mod yet

In bfn that whole concept was removed and all the weeds do is kinda damage the zombies while chomper just bites them.
Agreed and also I hate how he’s ranged now and I want the purple goop instead
What are you on, i just watch and played both and while the spikeweed is a downgrade, the eat animation is the exact same
@@macvadda2318 look closer

@@bestestbreadmakes more sense to parody Battlefield than call of duty
Looking back at these both games, I'm glad I grew up with GW and GW2, even though I've never played them but I always grew up watching other TH-camrs play it. But for BFN, It's okayish and there is some fun in it, I have it on my Switch and it's kinda fun, I think what the game was missing is that it needed more content. BFN had a lot of potential for it in 2020 to be able to improve itself but I guess it never happened due to the developing team leaving it.

@Sneaky Bastard WE ALL can agree the biggest thing they removed was zombie and plant variations
I mean we gotta cut gw1 some slack because it’s an old game and it still plays really well, I’ve seen shooter games that are pretty bad 👀
In gw2, my favorite variants is super brainz, chomper, foot soldier, imp, and peashooter
From my minimal knowledge of GW1 and 2, it seems like the characters are just meant to be more mobile or team-oriented in BfN than they were before. Sunflower, Cactus, and Rose look like big examples
I don't know if it's even right to compare GW to BfN in a parallel way, because they look like they have different intentions. It's NOT a garden warfare game
The style change hit some characters worse than others. Citron went from a futuristic cool guy to a laptop nerd. But for someone like Rose, I don't see how bad of a change it is. They both look INCREDIBLY derpy in their own ways
I don’t think Citron was hit that hard, but he really could use getting his shades back. The main designs I dislike are Peashooter and Rose.
This. The game lost its charm and became too team-oriented

The people who have the “realism = better” mindset usually just want to act more mature than they are by resenting cartoon artsyles thinking that they’re too “childish.” It’s not always true, for some people just have different tastes in graphics. as someone who first played BfN i must say neither of these games look better in particular, GW2 has a great realistic art style and BfN has a great cartoonish style.

I was hoping for them to add torchwood and hovergoat after they added tv head and wildflower but it just never happened 😔
Well I see the reason for complain on BFN, but it’s based off it’s original cartoony game Plants vs Zombies. So in reality they are just sticking to their style. I think it’s a good game, with good design if you actually stop looking for the flaws in everything
True.
The problem is after GW it Just doesnt feel right
I am sorry but there are simply too many flaws that saying to stop looking for flaws, although being a perfectly ok argument most of the time, simply does not work in this context and sounds more like “if they removed all the flaws, the game would be perfect.”
The design part I can mostly agree on though. But art is subjective and thus.. something
