Thank you for another amazing Reaction. Māori are the Indigenous people of New Zealand. For years our language was oppressed. I love how they sing this song in Māori too; it adds so much more integrity to his rendition of this cover by Crowded House. Nga Mihi Aroha ❤ (Thank you with Love) "Amazing Grace" Live with Levites, "New Light" and "Bigger" or "Give" OML so many i love lol. Stan Walker has also produced a Te Reo Māori Album too, he is truly a phenomenal Artist.

Stan is Maori, the indigenous people of Aotearoa (NZ). We also have a large (if not largest) population of Polynesians here hence why you see a strong representation of 'brown people' in NZ sports teams etc. Great reaction :)

Thank you for the comment with the little bit of background of NZ. I have never heard of this group "Polynesians, even though seeing the word and reading out just reminded me of the cartoon Pocahontas 😁. Is there any relation there because the cartoon was filled with brown characters too.

@@africalistens3379 Maori are VERY similar to the American Indians. We share a lot of the same ideals and values. Especially regarding nature, the land, ancestry and preservation of our cultures and heritage. And like American Indians, we were also colonised, had our land stolen and an attempt was made to eradicate our language and culture. Some examples of Polynesian people are Tahitian, Samoan, Fijian, Cook Islander, Hawaiian and Tongan. The cartoon "Moana" depicts Polynesian people.

The Indigenous language of New Zealand is Maori, aka All Black's Haka at the start of International Rugby matches is essentially a formal challenge to their opponents. White European or "Pakeha" is the dominant ethnicity 70.2% (3,297,860), then Maori 16.5% (775,840), then Asian 15.1% (707,600), Pacific Islanders 8.1% (381,640). You should do a side by side comparison of Stan''s "Bigger" then "TUA" (Maori version of Bigger).

I appreciate the breakdown of the different groups that exists out there. It is really interesting information for me to know because New Zealand is not even mentioned in our school curriculum. We just know it as the best rugby nation after our country 😜. So, if White Europeans are the majority, does this mean they are indigenous to the land? The reason why this a question of interest to me is because you guys speak good English, and we know where this language originated. Looking at the world map these your country is pretty far from that of the Queen.

I suggest you look up Kiri Te Kanawa. Opera singer. She was appointed an Officer of the British Empire in 1973 and then Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1982. Plus later honours. Personally my favourite is O mio babbino caro at the umm uk proms? Anyway Yes. New Zealand has opera talent.

@@africalistens3379 I'm wondering if it's because Stan is so humble, he may not have expected this cover video would gain international attention and that it would mainly be seen by kiwis who know and love Crowded House and would immediately know it was a cover. Just a theory 😊

@@africalistens3379 Neil Finn was the driving force, lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter behind Crowded House. He came from an earlier NZ band called Split Enz. He wrote this song while in Crowded House. And it was one of their biggest hits. The song was released in 1986, and reached no 2 in the US charts. From what i know of Niel, he likely new before hand, that Stan Walker was doing this cover. And would have loved it! Cheers.

Herr are the lyrics for anyone wanting to read or sing along (including the Maori section)
    Enjoy
    There is freedom within
    There is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
    There's a battle ahead
    Many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road while you're traveling with me
    Hey now, hey now
    Don't dream it's over
    Hey now, hey now
    When the world comes in
    They come, they come
To build a wall between us
You know that they won't win
    Here kore ā roto
    Here kore ā waho
Hopukina te ua i ō kapu ringa.
    Pakanga o mua
    Tukuna, ka ngaro
    Puritia taku ringa
Ngaro ana te ara ki pae rau
    Moe, moe, moemoeā
    E Kore rawa e riro.
    Maruāpo
    E ārai e te ao
    Ū mai, nau mai
    He taupare i a tāua.
    E kore e angitu (yeah)
