Original 1989 Black Seas Barracuda Pirate Ship #6285 did not have 2 imperial soldiers. The Brick Bounty #70413 did have two imperial soldiers, but that is 2015 set,, not the original model, and not the Barracuda.

Another excellent and detailed review from my favorite Lego Reviewer: Jangbricks!! My fiancee and I just got this set the other day and we have completed bags 1-5 so far. We are trying to take our time and enjoy this build since we both grew up during the time of classic Piarate sets from the 80's and 90's. This set is massive in scale and so detailed. And the box design is so fantastic! The Lego group really knocked this one out of the park!

The buried statue is very reminiscent of the ones seen in Forbidden Cove 6264, Enchanted Island 6292, and King Kahuka's Throne 6262. I love to see this!

It's not a review so much as an interview but Beyond the Brick has a great video with Boone from Lego Masters. They had lots of really interesting commentary on design and working with the Lego ideas submitter.

I'm 17 and was recently annoyed at how my little brother who's got me back into lego won't have those amazing iconic sets like I did as a kid but I've realises that there are those sets in sets like these
I was so glad about what you said regarding the island leftover parts. I kept hearing other reviewers say that it diminishes the value of the set if you want it for the ship, but when you consider that, despite the price, kids will still want this and parents will still buy it, I think it only adds value, because it gives the kids a port to dock their ship at, like Tortuga in Pirates of the Caribbean! I always appreciate your recognition, which so many afol’s lack, that these are toys first and foremost. I especially keep this in mind, as one of the few young adults who actually plays with my LEGO, and recently I’ve been trying to find LEGO pirates to play with but can only really get them with parts from the LEGO store, which is closed and two hours away, and a single blind bag that comes out in a couple of weeks. I really hope LEGO releases even one wave of pirate sets soon, with some imperial sets(a Fort with a row boat, a small ship, maybe a big one) and some pirate sets(row boat with a tiny island, small boat, maybe even a couple army building packs of pirates and soldiers) so that kids who build their own ships(as I have) will have a variety of enemies for their chosen protagonist.
They need to make a set like this for every old LEGO theme. I’d love to see what happened to Flatfoot Thompson and the rest of the Western characters, I think it would sell due to the popularity of RDR2
I have the original set that my kids found in in storage in pieces. They have built their own version of a ship wreck. Wonder if there's a similar story for inspiration of the new design. Thanks for the great videos Jang!
even without the full transformation, i would've bought this set. i think the disney castle created a whole new group of people trying to build their own theme park since the release of the disney castle and this set fits right in. and from a design perspective, i definitely think they designed the ship first, then the island; as that is the easiest way not to mess up the ship

This set actually reflects on two old sets from Lego Pirates. The ancient statue embedded in the sand is a statue from King Kahuka's throne. It's a little detail I noticed
Easily my favorite set from LEGO in... I don't know how many years. A lot of years. But do I have some notes? Yep, I got some notes, and it's all for the ship version of this set: - In ship form, there's absolutely no method built in for the crew to access the interior. No hatches, no stairs... it just has a full ceiling and a ton of windows. This seems like an oversight, since the designers have so clearly spent a LOT of time and effort on making every inch of the island version accessible! - No crow's nest? Even the original ship had one, and this one has an amazing WORKING capstan for the anchor, so I'm left a bit mystified about why there's not even the slightest attempt at a crow's nest. - The prow of the ship is REALLY weirdly shaped, to me. Like the entire forecastle should be extending out further. As a result, the silhouette of the ship is VERY back-heavy and odd. - Instructions for an interior rebuild to allow cannons inside would sure have been nice. A fourth cannon would also have been nice - how're they gonna balance the weight of an odd number of cannon aboard the ship? - They didn't come up with a way to hang the rowboat off the side railing! That's an unfortunate missed opportunity. - I'd REALLY have loved a new monkey mold to be released with this set. Dang, that would've been perfect. That's it! It's not anything major, because this set is absolutely tremendous. I hope it's been successful enough for LEGO to dip back into the Pirates well, or do a Castle set of similar quality.
My best friend had a set like this when I was a kid. I was so jealous! He even had the castle set with knights. I had Robin Hood’s castle and it was AMAZING!
I really wish Lego would bring back the pirates theme. Although, I would like it to be more imperial centered because I like them better, but that's just personal preference.
Jangs, this is the BEST set Lego has released in a long time and I CANNOT believe how it went over my head. Last year I got back into lego heavily thanks to you and Bevin, so I started getting sets again. When I seen the “Enchanted Island” statue buried in the sand, I was Sold! I have the original Caribbean Clipper, Enchanted Island, El Dorado, Sabre Island, Forrestman Hideout, and all the other sets from that time. This Pirates of Barracuda Bay completes the story and tells one in itself. The fact that lego aged the minifigures is special. The good guys won the battle and Ray the Castaway has a home now. I cannot wait to add all the sets together. This thing blows the Lighthouse away. If it weren’t for your video I may not have seen the statue in the sand, thanks Jangs!
It took me a few days to put the set together- mostly since I kept getting sidetracked. But this set is a beautiful thing- a love letter and tribute to the set that inspired it. I put the Barracuda together proper a few weeks ago, and after looking at the island leftover, I'm tempted to build on top of it- see if I can put on something like Skull Island on it- the Barraduca needs a place to put into port, after all. :)
Honestly this set is the best thing any lego fan could've asked for! I remember building some pirate ships back in 2009 and I really enjoyed those experiences. This set brings back a lot of memories. I also appreciate all the easter eggs and the care put into this set. You also did a fantastic job with the review. Can I ask, do you edit these videos yourself, or do you have assistance from an editor? These must be very tough to make.

What a set, it brings so many memories I have to simply get it. My first ever lego was the native island that featured similarly looking statue with secret passage followed by a pirate shipwreck turned into fort. Now 25 years later I feel like I'm going to relive my childhood :)

A masterful set. I'm shocked Lego retired this one so quickly. It's a lot of fun to build and to convert back and forth between the two configurations, and both look great on the shelf: the ship is beautiful, and the island is colorful and evocative. If I were a kid, I would have been blown away by all the play features, too. You could have lots of stories and adventures with a set like this.
I ordered this set the second it was available. It's such a great set and for a great value as well. To me it's the ultimate nostalgia set, the ultimate pirate set and the ultimate display set. It's really amazing to see a continuation from the classic pirates from my youth. I love all the little references they're making with this. Getting the set also gave me something to do inside during this lockdown.

MAJOR props to LEGO... As a grown up, I feel this set is cool enough to be in an adults collection. There are PLENTY of awesome angles to look at and things to see... I'm sure I'd have a good laugh at some of the items, scenarios and design choices here. At the same time, I couldn't imagine how much awe a child would have playing with this and a friend or something. The type of thing I did with my little brother or sister when they were young. Thanks for the awesome review... the length was fully warranted!

The idle out of stone on the shore is reference to the LEGO pirates: islander sub theme. Specifically sets like 6262 and 6278.

Yesss, got this set a while ago and was waiting for this review since the livestream
What a set, it brings so many memories I have to simply get it. My first ever lego was the native island that featured similarly looking statue with secret passage followed by a pirate shipwreck turned into fort. Now 25 years later I feel like I'm going to relive my childhood :)

A masterful set. I'm shocked Lego retired this one so quickly. It's a lot of fun to build and to convert back and forth between the two configurations, and both look great on the shelf: the ship is beautiful, and the island is colorful and evocative. If I were a kid, I would have been blown away by all the play features, too. You could have lots of stories and adventures with a set like this.

I ordered this set the second it was available. It's such a great set and for a great value as well.
To me it's the ultimate nostalgia set, the ultimate pirate set and the ultimate display set. It's really amazing to see a continuation from the classic pirates from my youth. I love all the little references they're making with this.
Getting the set also gave me something to do inside during this lockdown.

Great review as always 😉 i'm in love with this set since i got it. This is the first "2 in 1" set where i cannot decide which form to display. You need to buy two of this 😞 always wanted a Black Seas Barracuda so i display the boat now, but i already miss the taken apart island. Best set of the recent years.
It would be great if lego focused on more sets for their older themes
Power miners and space police are just a few examples that would make for a great theme revival

MAJOR props to LEGO...
As a grown up, I feel this set is cool enough to be in an adults collection. There are PLENTY of awesome angles to look at and things to see... I'm sure I'd have a good laugh at some of the items, scenarios and design choices here.
At the same time, I couldn't imagine how much awe a child would have playing with this and a friend or something. The type of thing I did with my little brother or sister when they were young.

I never bought a Lego pirate ship, so I picked up this set two days ago!! Already into the build I'm loving the detailing on this model, can't wait to finish it and put it on display!! Definitely a winner for Lego!! Thanks for the awesome review buddy!! 👍

This set currently retails for about $270 at it's cheapest. This was a really good deal back in the day, and it's still a decent deal nowadays.
I've been waiting for this video very much. Thank you! And just as a side-note, I would have gladly watched an hour-long version!
Finally! A Lego ship that can rival the Imperial Flagship from 2010..
I used the leftover strings to attach the other two sails rolled in to the other mast, which makes the set imo look even better.
