I spent 3 years as a designated defensive marksman for Triple Canopy after 8 years in the 82nd 1st/504th. Working as a PMC was my first introduction to the .338 and its unparalleled accuracy, stopping power and consistency. A lot of civilians assume you would want the M82A1/A2 but in my experience, the MRAD is exponentially more suited for precision shooting.
What company were/are you with as a PMC?
I recently found out that a Ukrainian sniper set a new record for longest killshot at 3.8km (2.85mi). It took the bullet a little over 9 seconds to reach the target.

Even as a civilian that gear is able to be purchased and dramatically cheaper than that. Body armor and plates are 500 the rifle 5 grand with a year of ammo even a 50cal barret is 6 grand

Excellent video. Our gun club has Precision Rifle Competition. US Army and Marine snipers occasionally attend and compete. They are more than willing to give pointers to the civilian shooters. Very impressive people.

Snipers frequently support other units and sit right behind them in support of those units. Not always but frequently. Plenty of back up.

We don’t have our snipers measure distance with a tool like range finder to equipment like tanks APCs or anything like this because that piece of equipment may have the capability to pick up your infrared sensor and it will give up your position and possibly cost you your life.

+50k invested in a single soldier, if that's not meaning of "quality over quantity" I don't know what is.
Snipers are the elite of the Infantry but I have to say they are tied with the Special Operations groups. Both are trained at the maximum level to complete their assigned missions and both are targeted by the enemy equally. The combination of a spec ops groups in the Army known as Green Berets have a sniper in every unit. I don't know much about the Navy Seals because I don't find them as interesting even though they tend to hog the limelight. If I were born again (I believe in reincarnation) I would probably like to come back and be a man in the best physical and mental shape to become a member of the Green Berets Special Operations groups.
They are deployed all over the world without fanfare and only a handful of people know that the mission they just performed may have changed the course of history. Imagine if we had Army Special Operations forces in Europe and given everyone's concern about Stalin and the Soviet Union and a Spec Ops team had been tasked with killing Stalin and succeeded what would the world be like now. I like to think about the what ifs.... because what is happening now is so painful to watch but I refuse to look away as too many people have done.
