- The DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) network comprises of 31 stations in Ireland from Malahide and Howth to the north of Dublin down through to Bray and Greystones to the south.
Of all the stations served, Seapoint is the least used with the lowest number of passengers of using it across the network, so whilst in Ireland for the weekend I caught up with Dan to go and see what is at Seapoint!

Seapoint is actually one of the few manned stations left - Manned in the morning on weekdays by a lovely guy called Paul.
A very unfortunate place to sit at the station. Particularly for Dan ;-)

I'm from Dublin and I've been watching this guy for a few months now. This was unexpected. More Irish videos would be nice 😁

The gate was an entrance to platform 2 for elderly and disabled people, but since the lifts were installed, everyone uses the main entrance. That gate has not been used for years. Information from Irish rail.
It's the fact that it's blowing its load over Dan's head that cracks me up the most! 😂

For me as a Scottish Gaelic speaker it's interesting to see/hear those Irish words. Some are very similar to Gaelic, some totally different. At least I largely know how to pronounce Irish when I see it written down. :)
I find it very interesting that a lot of Gaelic words are either spelt the same as Irish words but pronounced differently, or spelt differently but pronounced the same lol

How could I have missed this four years ago!!! Seapoint, a station I have visited many times over the past 50 years, as my Aunt live 5 minutes walk from here. Always a joy to ride this line, even on wet and windy day.
I lived in Bray for 10 years many many years ago. Like Dan I went to school near there (Newpark! Brilliant that it’s still there! 😀) and spent many an afternoon waiting for my train back home. Lovely to see it looking as I remember it!
I never knew there was a Bray in Ireland. I only know the one in England where Hammer made all the great Dracula and Frankenstein films. Was chuffed to see the recent BBC Dracula series was partly filmed there.

It's always so lovely to see my occasional commute. Cue me looking around seapoint for ages on google maps
I used to get the DART home after work during a fairly short-lived employment in the IADT "Media Cube". When hanging around on the northbound platform, it was interesting to peer through those circular windows into a derelict house, or maybe it was the original station building. There was a glass bottle sitting inside somewhere that looked at least 50 years old.
Also, bonus points for Nigel the Sound DART Driver.

Yeah a lot of the original Victorian and Edwardian post boxes are still in place, just painted green.

@@qwertyTRiG Well, if you are not willing to speak it to someone and rather just speak English, you will eventually forget how to speak it. It is only natural. The only way to keep a language living is when it is actually used on a regular basis. If folk are unwilling to speak the language of their land and their forefathers and just rather speak the language of the former colonisers, then they shouldn't be surprised that their Irish is bad or gets worse over time when they never want to use it regularly.
@@iammcwaffles5514 My own parents are English (well, it's co complicated, but I have no known Irish ancestry, anyway), but I was born and brought up here. I do want to learn Irish, but my first focus is this country's other native language, ISL.
Taken the DART from Tara St to Greystones, the lovely beach at the end makes it my favourite stop :D

For a second, I thought you came to Dallas. Guess there's more than one DART, and Dublin is a lot closer to the UK than Texas.

Geoff your in Ireland! Make sure you go see "Brunels folly" it's a piece of rail line designed and built by Brunel on the dart just before gravestones in Wicklow the last stop on the dart I think....brunel tried to build a piece of rail around Bray head (a big lump of rock) right on th coast and it ended up collapsing and killing a lot of people so they build a new piece of rail just up from it and you can see the old line Brunel built that ultimately collapsed

Been on the Dart, once, during a steam tour in Ireland. Went down to Bray from Dublin Heuston.
Dart definitely wins for ugliest coloursceme I love it. Nostalgia...a year ago I was in Dublin. Love that city.

Platform 1 looks incredibly narrow.
When the air is breathable again, please come to Sydney! Now that Camellia is closed along with the rest of the Carlingford line, the least used Sydney station is probably Cowan or Clarendon. Going a bit farther afield to the Central Coast, Wondabyne is a single-carriage length station which doesn't have road access - only on foot or by river: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wondabyne_railway_station

2:25 the building with the round window openings on the right (Up side) are stables, built by the Dublin & Kingstown Railway as part compensation to the landowner for land taken for the railway.

this city is one of my bucket list cities to visit. always wanted to go. Even since the cranberries released the first album. which is a good 27 years ago. or when i was 19.
That’s strange as The Cranberries are from Limerick not Dublin. So that’s like wanting to visit London because you like the Beatles.
Weirdly, my only other geographic reference for Dublin also involves DART, since it's the old Dara Ó Briain riff where he compares the Shankill and Bray stops to Mordor.
Geoff, you now need to do every least used station in the Irish counties! As you can’t just do one! 👍😀
Donegal doesn't even have a train station
Osin Smith, it does the fintown railway has a station and about 3 miles of narrow gauge track, it’s the only station in county Donegal.
Next time you're back come up and have a look at Maynooth Castle as well.
Well Setpoint isn't the only least used station to have a lift, if you remember London Waterloo?

The ticket office is still manned every weekday morning during the peak rush. Theres the award for best customer service from last years station awards in the ticket office window.

Hmm.. so nice to see the art work at the station. But more importantly you strolled past a classic VR postbox painted in green (10.45...) now that is a classic because back in the day... err a lot longer ago they could be painted green... might be worth a google and ya missed it!!

Most of the trains (about 70% of the fleet) date from the early 1980s, and are thus the same age as the Class 455s, 317s, and Sprinters on British railways, but younger than the trains used on Merseyrail, the Tyne & Wear Metro, or the Bakerloo and Picadilly Lines. .
The newer Darts are only from 2004?
