Dogs almost never damage fiberglass and concrete pools, but their claws can puncture a vinyl liner. They need big steps, and a tanning ledge is best. Salt chlorine generators are softer on fur and eyes than traditional chlorine. You may have to spray off your filter or backwash more often, but overall dogs don't increase maintenance much.

I don’t agree with the last part I have cleaned out many filters covered in dog hair. Pressure is always high no matter what.
Salt water pools can be very dangerous if your dog likes to drink water when they swim. Just like the ocean. Our golden retriever ended up at the ER vet one night from drinking too much salt water while she swam.

As A Pool Service Tech.. we don't like them in there because Most of the time the owner does not Understand that. Yes, all that furr gets to they filter, and they need more often filter cleans and the chlorine demand is way way much more. Then a normal Full usage, not to mention that dogs do pee. The pool almost always plus they don't keep clean their, butt so that gets in there too. To simplify it 8 requires way more chlorine.
And homeowners don't keep up with the cost of that

Thanks for weighing in J.P. Busch! Glad to hear you haven't had an issue. We're just speaking from experience working with vinyl liner pool owners over the years who did have issues with dogs in pools.
Sounds like you convert a lot of vinyl pools to Fiberglass because of dogs. Is that more expensive then patching the vinyl or purchasing a new liner?
@@jaypan888 It would certainly be cheaper to replace the vinyl liner in your existing pool than replacing the pool with fiberglass...cheaper by 10's of thousands. What we're doing is educating folks on the pros and cons of different pool types for those looking to own a pool for the first time.
Dude, a few more chemicals? And what about the chemistry? Does that pet hair effect anything with that?
And if you don’t clean your filters every 2-3months, your cartridges are going to be packed with dog hair, which is filtering through into your water
